Valve still hasn't denied the SteamPal rumors and its been 2 days now since the leaks/article.

I think that should mean its real and its happening.

I remember IGN posted some article about L4D3 coming to SteamVR and Valve shutdown the news almost instantly. They definitely have ninjas roaming the internet to shoot down ridiculous news like this if they were fake heh.

Interesting to see how they reveal this. Maybe do some video drop at the PCgaming show on the 13th. Q4 is a longs way off so maybe later in the summer when they have the DOTA tournament.

Hopefully they don't just put up some blog post unless of course the thing is super expensive. Then yea that is exactly what they will do.

My new job is incredibly stressful. I think that the effect on my health won't be worth the financial trade-off.

Anyway, still going through Yakuza 4. Already played it on PS3 but I can't get enough of these games.
Also finished Ghost of Tsushima today. I really loved that game.

nah the mindblowing thing is the APU that will be used

in the leaked AMD roadmap stuff, the AMD Van Gogh is a low-power low-cost APU cabable of things, basically rivals Tiger Lake U
the same guy who got the fact that it was a handheld console with an AMD APU also said that it would be 399 dollars, which i find completely believeable due to the low-cost focus on the Van Gogh APU

Forbidden West looks good but I wouldn't say next gen mindblowing good. It looks kinda like the first game with improved animations, effects, color etc. Framerate looked better than anything I experienced with the first on PS4 for sure. That is really where the PS5 version will shine.

allowed - yes ... are they going to? roflmao - no chance ... in fact - like 40% of the time the pln price is higher than the EUR one :p

:toucan:
Not really, actually. Nocturne aside, I can’t think of any other examples and they’re pretty easy to spot since the price has to be really high. AAA games usually get pretty close though,

Graphics looked awesome (although a part of me expected more if I'm honest), looks like an interesting location, combat is as good as ever (melee please be better). Although the scripted nature took away from some of it thought, like the trees falling to leave a certain path to go through etc...
Weirdly the thing I took the most away from the presentation was "damn I need to get the soundtrack when it releases".

This is looking like what I am expecting for this gen's start. I'm actually disappointed that SSD's strength aren't really coming into play in that demo - much larger environments, higher detail and faster streaming.

Still, I have to smile. "Gameplay", as usual for these demos. Lines spoken perfectly timed with the actions the player take and NPCs acting in a choreographed way. I'm doubting the game will be anywhere near this systemic, but that's also on par for the course.

What amazed me most is clearly in the animation department. So many secondary motions and details in the creatures. We're a far cry from Gen 7's atrocious animation data compression.

I know that on Era that there are people that are saying that it will "fail" and that who would want a SteamPal when they (themselves) already own a PS4 and a N/S.

I'm guessing that a lot of the people on Era don't really have an idea of what exactly is on Steam since they were asking if it had "exclusive games" and well there are tons of games that are not on either PS4 or N/S and if there is, it likely cost a lot more (I mean look at Octopath Traveler and DQB2. If you want to play it on the go then you would buy the N/S version... But good luck getting it on sale since Nintendo is the publisher for those games.

I was expecting the device to be at least $1kUSD and if that was the case and it was a very nice and premium product I would have purchased it.

I was thinking that there were going to have 3 tiers.

Tier 1 being $200USD and it mainly used for streaming games and being able to play stuff like VNs offline.

Tier 2 being 800 USD and that would be what most people would choose, so like a PS4 on the go with 3-4 hours of battery life.

And then a $1200 USD tier 3 that would be some Xbox One X stuff on the go.

But the $400USD sound like a very good starting point and there most likely will just be one model at launch as to not confuse people.

I would gladly buy one of these for that price but sadly it will very likely be sold out especially for that price. Seeing how the price is low I'm Guessing that they plan to sell a large amount of these then? And depending on how well it sells and is liked you may even see stuff like "SteamPal certified" you know like how for the promos of games how they will say Xbox Series X enhanced or PS4 Pro support (something like that).

So Q4 2021 for Steam and then Q1 2022 in Nippon then?

The reaction to this type of news is always dumb on the internet.

The Switch sells 100 million units and people ask why would anyone want a gaming handheld?

You can't even fault Valve for trying to do this. They see the success devs have by releasing games on the switch and they know so many of those games originate on Steam. The back catalog on Steam is so large there is something for everyone. So why not provide steam community an affordable way to play Steam games on the go? There is no net negative for Steam by releasing it. This will only help Steam grow either by a lot or by a little. Its worth trying for Valve since the tech is there. I mean a 560, 1050 or base PS4 power levels on the go will be amazing for 400$. Or even 500$ tbh.

I am honestly surprised Sony isn't doing this. Gonna be very funny seeing once PS4 exclusive games run well on a Steam handheld later this year.

They tried but the PSP was no where nearly as popular as the DS was. Gabe himself at one point was even sure that the PSP would outsell the DS because how of it was much more powerful hardware (I guess that's why I owned multiple DS systems before buying a PSP, because price was a factor). Then during the 3DS and PS Vita era at the beginning both of them were having a hard time but in the end the 3DS ended up doing pretty well but the Vita was pretty much abandoned by Sony.

Sony could try again but it seems that as far as "niche" devices they rather focus on supporting the PSVR since that's something that neither Nintendo or MS are currently doing something with in the console space.

Watched both Horizon and Far Cry 6 gameplay. Yeah open world gameplay does nothing for me these days, I need to know what is gameplay loop because it is 90% of time same. It is nice that Horizon looks great but if main gameplay loop is clearing outpost Ubisoft style then it is not for me.

This is next generation I expect something new, something different.

Well right now the target price is just an unverified rumor so we'll see how it plays out. The target audience will depend a lot on the state it will launch. If it launches on beta it will have a limited audience. If it's a finished and polished product I can see it doing pretty well in the market.

Well yeah, there will be new things including more robots and probably new skills/moves, as well as underwater combat and exploration. But since it's a sequel so the gameplay loop will be mostly the same. I rolled my eyes when I saw that part where Alloy hiding in the tall grasses, preparing for a silent take down on her prey. Flashback to early 2010s open world design.

the target price of 399 came from a reddit user who commented something like (before the handheld console was confirmed by ars technica and before that steam thing updated to showoff steampal was an actual thing)

"Valve handheld Q4 2021. Can play all of your Steam library. Uses a custom APU from AMD, 7-8 inch screen, codenamed project Jupiter, codename Aerith for the APU. 399 USD is the price they're aiming for."

"Aerith" was later discovered and confirmed to be a codename for AMD's Van Gogh APU (low-cost apu that can do a good job handheld basically), and it was also later discovered that it was a handheld and that the codenames were also focused towards planets (callisto developer program, neptune, why not jupiter), in other words, this reddit thing got a good amount of stuff right
the only way i can imagine the "SteamPal compatible games" are the games that you just can't play on Big Screen without a keyboard, it should be able to run most modern games in an alright performance as said before, buut the compatible games really depend on the OS, if they go for SteamOS or if they go for Windows (i sincerely hope they go for the latter)

I am just tired of huge worlds where you see all systems and gameplay loops in first 10h and then for the rest 50-100h you are doing the same things over and over.

That is why I like RDR2 so much, years from finishing that game I am discovering new things in that world and even repeating things like hunting can have twists and turns. Raiding literally same camp for 5th time in Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example was driving me insane.

Yeah same. Just a bit burnt out on open world games. RDR2 has raised the bar for me for 'immersion' into a world. Didn't really get into HZD. I think its either got to be a super realised world or a really silly one to just mess about in for me now. I do like Far Cry games but generally wait until they are pretty cheap before picking up. Though with Ubi leaving Steam I dont think ill be getting 6.

I'd be up for a SteamedHammedboy, seems like a great idea to be honest. All my Steam games handheld for when the partner wants to watch tele.

I wonder if some sort of track pad like on the Steam controller will be implemented?

They arent gonna announce it during TI. For TI they would (at best) announce a Dota universe game or anime.

It will probably drop in a random day like the Index did.
