Pretty sure POE is unity and Witcher is neverwinter nights engine.
Yeah, from what I remember the original Witcher is based on a very heavily modified version of the Aurora engine.

With all of this EOS business going on, I am going to take a wait and see approach. The moment it starts phoning home it will be getting blocked on the firewall and the moment it requires an account then it's off to get a refund.

I spent almost a whole day trying to make Jade Empire work on Linux, but no dice. I have the GOG version (which ran fine on Windows), but when using Wine it just shows artwork and then freezes. I've seen several people with that problem even on Windows and literally no one fixed it (well, one person supposedly did, but they just used Win 98 compatibility, and that didn't help in my case either). Exhausted and out of ideas, but would really want to make it work.

On another note, Linux terminals are really cool with how customizable they are.

Nice little article on PC World covering the (basic) history of Steam OS from the launch of Windows 8 to the announcement of the Steam Deck.

Pc world article

framed more as a why are they using Linux.

if you have been following Valves developments since the launch of Steam OS there isn’t anything new in there. On the other hand a fairly positive outlook on Valve.

Yeah, I did check, but I don't have the game on Steam and either the Steam version differs somewhat from the GOG one or I suck at using Proton (outside of Steam anyway). I'm using Wine Launcher made by Russians which is amazing, but that game in particular gives me a headache. When I used Proton instead of Wine, the only difference was that the game closed after ~1 second of displaying the artwork, whereas with Wine it keeps displaying the artwork until you click anything. In any case, it won't actually work. CDP has a Linux version of Galaxy in the works and I really hope they incorporate Proton or Wine in some way. Would make for a great redemption after the shitshow that was CP2077.

Damn Remnant is always gonna remain pricey or what ? :sweaty-blob:
I know it's on GP, I know I have an Epic free copy, but what about the fucking DLC. And that's without talking about the supposedly wonky crossplay.

But the Steam version is really not cheap anywhere.

Kinda of surprised (in a good way) that there still discussion and analysis of the Deck even if all we have so far is the same info and 10 minute b-roll from IGN. Maybe Valve is really onto something :)

Now to decide what to play next. After Nier Replicant I was thinking about something more modern, but going through my history this year I will spend the next three days unable to make a choice and end up replaying some old long ass game.

Damn, not unrelated with Remnant, I’m looking to satisfy a ‘shoot people in the face’ itch and there are so few modern fps. Most of the listicles are comprised of old games now. I guess there is Titanfall 2 but it’s huge on the ssd.
Any other suggestions ? :confounded-face:

It's not modern, but fairly (to my knowledge anyway) unknowon: GORE Ultimate Soldier.

If you specify what release dates you're looking for and what you've already played, I can give some more suggestions.

Just my two cents. but it might be a better idea to mix the games a bit, instead of playing all Ys games before playing all Trails games, and so forth. For one, as you said, there's a lot of them and there's also the chance of getting burned out from a series by playing one game after the other.
I like how this sounds. Currently I play the Ys games in a very spaced way, but I could play Falcom stuff more often as long as it's from different series.

GOG freebies. I think they might be getting delisted (again) soon.

Ultima Underworld 1+2, Syndicate Plus, and Syndicate Wars

Chungus is fine for old man like me if it was much smaller i doubt i'd be interested as i find Switch is just small enough even with my small man hands.
Glad there's a carry case for it and i'm really interested in the dock as i'll probably use it docked most of the time and it's portability will be handy for taking to work and connecting to a monitor etc. I can't really think how often i'll use it handheld but we'll see.

Yeah, no shit Jez.

PC game pass is a big pile of shit.

If the game doesn't have cheevos you are actually getting better service with piracy. And that cheevos is the line (imo) between game pass being better than piracy or not is not a compliment to PC game pass.

The fact games like Sea of Thieves, Flight Simulator, and other Microsoft titles continue to trend on Steam despite being far more affordable with Xbox Game Pass could evidence this — people would rather pay for a more reliable, consistent experience.

Yep, good on Jez for calling it out

Maybe outlets can shame MS into hurrying it up and sorting it out

MS should just outright kill UWP for mainstream games and potentially just migrate to Steam altogether.
They are probably happy people subscribe to their subpar service and then out of frustration go n buy 60$ titles on Steam for the much better experience

Its basically a double dip revenue stream for them.

And ofc later on gamers (as gullible as they are) will sub to Gamepass again thinking that things changed for the better. The cycle starts over. This has been pretty much happening for almost 5 years now. The only hope of this shit coming to an end is Windows 11 but if anything that OS will cause even more problems for everything :(

I don't know if LTT's video on the Steam Deck has been posted here yet, but man I'm even more excited than before

hey sexy, looking forward to meeting you later this year.

(everything about the device seems to be just right, so far)

edit:

You know what, Valve understands PC gaming and where the roots are. That's pretty clear with this product.

I'd be much obliged. I kinda gave up for the moment due to lack of progress and proceeded with other, more promising titles in the meantime. So far so good, but older games really are a chore. They require quite a bit of work on Windows due to all the mods and unofficial patches/fixes, and Linux adds a whole new layer on top of that. At some point it starts to be quite a chore.
