So a friend gave me Civ 7 for my birthday. Started playing and it's fun so far, but I'm not far in yet. Research is fun, always love that in 4x titles. I can't compare it to previous civs because the last one I played was Civ 1 or 2
:nerd-face: I started just after the patch that fixed a lot of bugs, apparently. Some weirdness:
  • You can't rename cities apparently?
  • No auto-explore for scouts??
  • Can't play with Napoleon unless you make a 2k account, ugh.

Yeah cities can't be renamed. Scouts won't auto explore but it is worth learning their mechanics. They have an ability to clear a few extra tiles from the fog of war which can be useful to reveal more of the map then you'd get just by exploring. They can also set up scout towers to keep track of enemy movements. There's also a school of thought that you should just skip scouts and use warriors for scouting. They cost the same to create and won't have the scout's abilities but they can get into early skirmishes if needed. And yeah a 2k account is required for both versions of Napoleon. They did the same thing in Civ 6 with Julius Caesar if I remember correctly. On the bright side, having the 2k account enables cross saves across platforms and cloud saves if you're someone like me who plays on both desktop and Steam deck.

Checking out Avowed, see how it runs if at all... Maybe borderline playable for me. Not as bad as the Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark for sure. In the 1st area it seemed fine even with a bit higher settings but as soon as you get to the city everything's so densely populated and regardless of settings it sticks to 30fps with common dips on top depending on which direction you look or how it loads another chunk or whatever. Idk, if that's the worst of it it's actually okay I guess, but if in later actual combat shenanigans beyond wandering about this city it dips like this or worse consistently then that's no good. But, the game seems very nicely done and polished, definitely a fantasy Outer Worlds (better setting for me). The combat seems quite fun and it probably runs quite nicely on just a bit better PC than mine (or anything above of course). It sounds like I'm getting Deck-esque performance I guess though I didn't read the earlier stuff in depth.

Not even the "good" Gundam .... PS I'm watching Chars Counter Attack next month in theaters. I also have tickets for that one Gundam series that Trigger is working on as well.

Classic modern obsidian you mean. During obsidian's golden era they were making janky games that shot for the moon in reactivity and rpg depth with some of the best writing in the industry.

Modern obsidian makes pretty solidly polished ultra streamlined games that don't really stand out in any way, which going by the reviews Avowed seems to hit all those marks. I've seen so many knocks against the story and companions being forgettable. That's very modern obsidian.
how you say this with a straight face when Pentiment and the PoE games exist is beyond me. Characters like Durance in PoE1 make most of the industry look like they are writing for toddlers. And Pentiment is absolutely amazing in its writing.

So what was the final verdict on Infinity Nikki from people here who ended up playing it? I feel like it came and went, but I'm not clued in on any gacha stuff so maybe it's actually doing fine?

Though I guess the fact that it got a Steam page maybe suggests that they didn't reach everyone they thought they would.

Also where are my Fenyx achievements Ubisoft!?

They seem to max out at 3 games in a week lol. This week wrapped up Far Cry, so next week we have a shot at Immortals? Unless they go back to working through AssCreed.
Yeah, just had a look, and if they added achievements to any game today I couldn't find it.

There's a decent, time limited bundle on Steam with some well received indies from 2024 in it. Includes 1000xResist, Manor Lords, Dread Delusion, Mouthwashing, Harold Halibut and more. Only available for a couple of days though...

That bundle is INSANE.

I have 2 titles already but 5 more were on my Wishlist.

Hell yeah.

One of my fave chill streamers Dr. Incompetent was touring DAH this week and the low price point made it an insta-buy.

It's one of those repetitive-task Zen deals like PowerWash Sim. More slight, but scratching that same itch. Nice upgrade paths to boot.

I love that games like this exist. This one solo-dev had a fresh idea and whammo, here's something novel & creative to enjoy.

The pillars of eternity games are the most bog standard crpgs ever and with some of the driest writing too. However your durance example highlights the problem obsidian faces now- durance was written by chris avellone who is no longer there. He was one of the only interesting characters in POE1.

Pentiment I won't even entertain. If this is the best obsidian can do then let's just hold the funeral for the company now.

Do they still have many AssCreed games left to implement that already have ubi achievements?

Actually now that I think about it, I have no idea when Ubi started putting Ubi achievements in their games. Revelations was the first AC game to have them right, kind of wondering if they'll go back to every single game that already has them to port them over.

Kind of feel bad for the lone intern who is implementing these, but at the same time with my luck they probably hate Fenyx and will do it last just to spite me. :toucan:

I know that AC 1, 2 and Brotherhood don't have Ubi achievements.

Of the rest, there's ACIII (original and remastered), AC Chronicles China/India/Russia and the standalone release of Freedom Cry that have yet to get Steam achievements. I don't own Freedom Cry so I have no idea if it has Ubi achievements but all the others do.

It's a good game. Pretty, fun and chill.
It does seem likely that it hasn't performed how they've imagined though based on mobile revenue estimations. Been going down even with the big Chinese New Year update with lots of content and more aggressive monetization options and while they've stated most of their playerbase is on PC and console, I imagine the trend would be the same there. (Still making plenty of money though)

Oh I completely forgot about the Chronicles games. :surrenderblob:
Now I'm kind of wondering if it's possible to not sync achievements on first launch, since I did play those at some point so I would have at least some ubicheevos on them, but maybe I would prefer to earn them again? :thinking-face: Or if they unlock, if I then remove them with SAM, would they unlock again once I launch the game again. I wonder how it's all implemented.
Yes I realize this sounds dumb but I'm just broken in this way. :dabblob:

Maybe I'll give it a go when it launches then, always room for some chill games.

EDIT: Well I tested it with Watch_dogs and the achievements will always unlock again when you launch the game so SAM doesn't help there. Maybe I'll try their support, who knows.

I'm probably not the right person to answer this question, but I think Infinity Nikki simply came out too late. And with this I mean it came out too late after Love and Deepspace which got an insane stranglehold on the "gacha for female" market. Being able to dress a cute girl in cute clothes is novel, but nothing can beat the good old pandering in gachas with continued spending
