FAQs

1. Do I need to play GFL1 to enjoy this sequel?

The common census of CN players is that it is not required to play GFL1 in advance. However, there are many returning characters in Excilium so knowing them beforehand would enhance your experience in the game.

If you are interested in the story of GFL1, I would recommend you check out GFL Story Order Guide for the timeline and GFL Cutscene Interpreter for all the story in the game. Be sure to start from Area 1 (=Chapter 1) instead of Deep Dive for the original experience. In addition, the main story of GFL is expected to conclude in 2024 so the game has no ending yet.

Personal opinion ahead: GFL is a slow burn and the story does not get interesting until Deep Dive. Singularity is the first climax and marks the ending of the huge prologue before it. Again, knowing the main story of GFL1 is not required for Exilium, but if you really want to dive into the world of GFL, I would recommend sticking with it until Singularity before deciding if you should finish the rest. (I also haven't finished reading the main story yet lol)

2. This game is still coming soon and I want to start playing now. Any game to play to tide over?

Personally I don't recommend starting GFL1 now. The game is old, extremely time-consuming and punishing to play. I would recommend checking out the Cutscene Interpreter instead for the story featured in GFL1.

There is also a spinoff / prequel to GFL called Neural Cloud which is available on mobile. The game is still on-going and receive regular updates.

Meanwhile, you can also purchase and start playing Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery, a game set in the future of GFL world depicting the conflict between Union of Rossartrist Nations Coalition and Antarctic Union Yes, there is bread in the game

3. I heard of a NTR drama. Is that real?
Every gacha game has its fair share of drama. :shrugblob:

Thanks for posting that story recap. I do want to check this out and knowing what's going on in the universe is very helpful.

The game having no release date in sight makes it a bit hard to get very excited about it right now though.

:cat-heart-blob: Thanks for reading.

Although there is no release date yet, the social media accounts have been updated nearly daily since last week, so it is speculated among fans that the game will be out in late 2024 / early 2025.

Because I have only played it a bit and not sure if it is canon. :face-with-tears-of-joy: Should have included it in the FAQs.

Great thread! Thanks for the story recap as well. I stopped playing GFL1 around Shattered Connexion but at that point I was skipping through the story.

Surely they'll post the pre-reg date soon right?

The common speculation is that pre-reg will likely open after Tokyo Game Show in late September.

Normally I try to refrain from posting news from CN to avoid spoiler, some commanders who have played GFL1 may be happy to see her.

Putting it into spoiler.

I just noticed that the Cheeta (MP7) goal is 4 millions meanwhile the website counter only reaches 400k. We are so cooked lmao.

Wouldn't really worry unless it doesn't pick up closer to launch when the marketing really starts, but even then these usually hit the goal one way or another and even if not they'd probably still give the rewards for some other reason.

Personally I'm mildly interested and probably will check out, though I couldn't get into GFL1 and Neural Cloud.

Read the comment of the latest trailer. Didn't even noticed the lyrics. "You're losing your sight. But you'll be fine. You'll not be accused of a lack of will."

This is definitely taking about the commander.

Good news. One of my favorite dolls in GFL1 was introduced in the CN server yesterday Welrod. Honestly can't wait to see her again and talk about them when global hits.

They also started posting characters. Very weird that they are not reusing those from JP server.

Has to be official release date announcement. We only figured it out because of the app store date otherwise they haven't actually told us that it's coming in December.

Oh yeah. Likely the date of CBT, too. Those two must be close because they have nearly introduced every pre-launch characters provided that the launch is the same as CN. Before CBT I think we will get a gameplay trailer as well.

I expect the CBT opens in early Nov and actual launch in early Dec.

Looks like Girls' Frontline 2 is coming to Steam. Steam logo discovered on official site (bottom of the page).

But there's a caveat. GFL2 has two EN server, one is directly published by CN publisher Sunborn, another one is published by haoplay. As you can see in the url, haoplay version is coming to steam. No steam logo on Sunborn version's homepage yet. There can be regional or translation difference between the two so further confirmation is needed.

Finally, gameplay previews

It's not for GF2, and the EN server is unaffected, but sad news for GF1. Unfortunately accidents, especially from old contracts, can happen after 8 years of service

Time for Girls' Frontline 1 offline on Steam Yuzhong. You know you want it

Although it is transitioning to a new server, this feels like the end of an era.

Hopefully the Steam version won't be like Honkai Impact 3rd which is an entirely separate version mihoyo made just for Steam that doesn't interact with the regular PC client and doesn't get all the promotions and stuff.

It might be that Haoplay is going to publish it on Steam (Steam is on their version of the website) and Mica selfpublishes it off-steam (Steam is not on their version of the website).
I know that also on the appstore different regions get a different publishes. It's a bit weird. Dunno how much they'll differ, if at all, but personally I'd always get the self-published version if possible (there was just recently the whole thing with GFL1 where they have to temporarily suspend service in China cause their publishes didn't wanna renew the contract).
