and in other news:

Improving owner estimates on PlayTracker Insight

When I launched PlayTracker Insight, I made the data public and available to everyone because I believe it will be easier to fix and improve Insight with the help of the public.

During this unexpectedly big launch weekend, one issue has been at the forefront of discussion - incorrect owner estimates for some games. Many developers have come out and said that the figures on Insight are wrong, often by a large margin. I failed to effectively communicate that the number was a rough estimate and that games could have wildly incorrect data and I apologize.

While being accurate 100% of the time is impossible ever since Steam changes profiles to be private by default, I want Insight to be as good as it can possibly get. The basic tactic of sampling and extrapolating, which you can read about on the about page, needs some help getting there. Here's what I'm going to do.

First, I am going to start using public Steam data like reviews and concurrent players to determine anomalies in Insight's data. For example, if the number of reviews is significantly out of line with PlayTracker's owner estimate, the estimate will be adjusted and a warning will show up on the page telling users that this game is likely to have skewed data.

Second, I am fast-tracking full implementation of the bias system - a system which takes data voluntarily submitted by developers to detect large-scale biases in PlayTracker’s sample and slowly adjust the relevant estimates over time as well as shape future growth of Insight’s sample (which grows by a thousand every few days) to make it more accurate. If you are a developer and willing to share your data to make PlayTracker better, you can contact me at marijan@playtracker.net.

These changes will go live in an update on April 2nd. This is not a definitive nor instant fix. I will continue to adjust Insight and implement new ways to make it better for everyone.

I also noticed a lot of people asking about future plans so I've now published a post on Patreon.

Finally, I've been asked about who I am and if I am associated with anyone in the gaming industry, so I've addressed it on the about page (spoiler: I am a nobody).

Don't think there's anything I'm interested in other than one finger 2 this month, not sure if I'll get that day 1. Hopefully they drop Kiwami 2 but they took a while to release Kiwami 1 after 0 so maybe not, I'd play it though if it did.

don't blame me, blame the devs ;)

also - don't worry, there's a pretty good chance most of those games won't make it to the point where you'll actually be able to buy them on steam ;)

Great work.

Islander looks neat. Hope it comes to iPad. Seems like a good chill out game for when I'm not on PC.

Leaf looks good, too. Is the style flatpoly? Anyway, this style always gets me.

Well, aren't you bright light of optimism in these "dark" times :D ... (I know, I know, it's realism). Well, at least Ace Attorney is already on my Steam library.

Still, some pretty interesting games... and that reminds me that I should probably order another mouse in case One Finger Death Punch 2 makes me break mine.

So, decided to go back to Sekiro and finished the first boss, Gyoubu. He was surprisingly easier than what I'd expected after the chained guy that wasn't even worthy of a achievement. Will probably keep going on tomorrow, but my priority is AC Origins which by the way, keeps getting better, but I think that I'm really close to its ending. I wish we had more games with Bayek, he deserved at least a second appearance as protagonist.

So Sekiro is the next in my backlog, unless, of course, Yakuza Kiwami 2 get released on Steam like Catherine did.

A fighting game reference again? Shlooter fans really can't catch a break.

Lots of recommendations, shaping up to be a good month. Sadly the mobo and/or cpu in my main PC died (I don't know which one died, could be both) so I've been surviving on my living room PC. Back to fighting screen tearing/input lag again lmao.

I love that Sterling had time to make a video about what ended up being false allegations of plagiarism against Epic's Fortnite artists in a matter of hours, but it took him literally months to make a semi decent video that was remotely scathing of the EGS.

Great stuff dude, keep up the good work. Truly, an inspiration to gaming personalities everywhere, and a defender of consumer interests :so-good-blob:
