New week, new thread! What are you playing?

I started re-playing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare since I craved for shooty-shooty-bang-bang games. It's my third playthrough of the game and I have already reached the final mission. I haven't played many COD games after AW (only Infinite Warfare and an hour of WWII), so my exposure to the franchise is rather limited. But in my eyes AW has a great campaign with a cool story, good variety of gimmicks and guns, and gorgeous graphics that age really well. The game is 10 years old (yo what?!) but it is still very pleasing to the eyes and fun to play. Love it.

Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector

I loved the first one for its excellent sci-fi writing paired with dice-rolling gameplay.

The sequel started off a little patchy, throwing systems at you that are a little overwhelming when you’re trying to get to grips with the narrative. But when you push through it all falls into place and the gameplay loop is just as engaging as the original.

I really feel like the Citizen Sleeper format is the best one for writers making interactive stories. It pares everything down to the basics and lets the writing and chance-based narrative tree speak for itself.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II: Went really hard on this since launch, dropped 40+ hours on it already. Loving the writing and quests and I am having a blast.

Umineko When They Cry Answers Arc: Yes, I am still reading it! I finished Ep 6 last night and I will begin Ep 7 soon. We are in the end game now!

Trails in the Sky SC: I finished FC in 2023 after like 10 years of procrastination, but I got the itch to move forward because I want to catch up before I am dead.

Started Trails Through Daybreak 2. Still haven't put in more than a couple hours, but already loving the additions to combat and the return of many minigames like fishing. The pacing so far is nice and slow, and I for one like it a lot. Let's see how many opinion holds up through the game. Daybreak 2 had a bit of a controversial reputation among Japanese fans, as far as I understand it.

Continuing also Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Currently in late Chapter 5, and while the overall plot, the characters and story is great, I am kinda getting a bit annoyed by its overly traditional combat system. Setting aside the animations, this feels more barebones than even the most recent Dragon Quest. I get wanting to do a traditional JRPG style turn-based combat system, but even those kind of games understand the need to spice things up a bit. The only "spice" this game adds is QTEs and the silliness of the "Sujimon" system. Ignore those things (and they get old after the 100th encounter), and this could literally be something from DQ1. Kinda tiresome, and I'm only in Chapter 5.

Finished Dahlia View, also apparently previously known as CONWAY: Disappearance at Dahlia View. I definitely see why they changed the name there, that's a bit of a long one.
It has some neat ideas but the writing kind of doesn't hold up. The moment the moment dialogue between characters is good, but the overall plot is a bit predictable and the main character writing is... I don't know, he's a bit of an idiot.

Also I didn't realize the devs are also behind The Occupation, which I've had on my wishlist forever now. Still mildly interested in that one even though I seem to recall it being quite buggy. Also only 174 steam reviews, total. Kind of surprised the dev is still in business after that, but I guess that's ultimately the benefit of having a really small team and not living in California or whatever.

Not sure what to play next. :thinking-face:
Might finish up my blitz with GotG. I needed a bit of an small indie palette cleanser after Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider and I think TOEM and Dahlia were perfect for that.

I have not been playing video games. I have been obsessed with documenting my "well-spent" life on Backloggd and Letterboxd. I have played over 1,000 video games and have watched over 1,000 movies. Those are merely the ones I could remember by scanning records and databases. I didn't count games where I piddled about for 40 minutes and never touched it again etc.

So, in the background I've been listening to a lot of podcasts, books, plays and YouTube. I hate myself as well. But it's finally over.

I WAS HERE. And I spent my time poorly.

My idiot brain was going to do the same thing for TV Shows on Trakt, but luckily the filtering I need is behind a paywall, so nevermind that.

If I track my media consumption am I real?

I finally beat the second episode of Duke Nukum 1.
Going back to replay Myth The Fallen Lords again, still as amazing as ever.
Been playing a lot of Buggy Boy, the arcade game, lately. It's a game I was impressed with as a kid in arcade games, still tons of fun. Very overlooked.

But as far as new games, FlyKnight is a great new game in the style of King's Field with more than plenty of original mechanics and twists.

Played a couple of platinum beat 'em ups for a change after my jrpg roll. Finished Transformers Devastation, a nice Bayonetta lite and tried The Legend of Korra, which is mediocre. You can see these are budgets titles, especially Korra, the animation and presentation is behind Devastation. Kinda looks like a PS2 games tbh. While in Devastation they nailed that cell shaded artwork really well but only have like 3 recycled levels for the whole game. Korra's pc port is horrendous as well, capping at 1080p unless you use Special K to force resolution.
