I'm not sure if it's mainly an age thing but are there a decent amount of people here playing Minecraft and Destiny 2?

So one of the big differences between my co workers at the place I work at now and before, is that before a decent amount of my co workers were famales that were in their late 20/early 30s. But at the place u work at now it's mainly males in their early 20s. I do hear them talk about video games and stuff. And Minecraft and Destiny 2 are the two main games that they talk about. They even seem dedicated to Minecraft and have their own dedicated server.

I would try to play Destiny 2 but I'm mostly just trying to play single player games now and if I do multiplayer games I was to avoid ones with a lot of grinding. I want quick matches that you get in most FPS games.

As for Minecraft well I have DQB2

My Falcom kick continues as I spent the weekend finishing up Ys 7. Great game all around, though I didn't really super jive with any one particular character's playstyle like I did in Celceta with Calilica. The late game bosses outside of one specific one, as well as the final boss, were also some of the weaker ones I've played of the modern Ys games. Outside of that, the story was really solid and the music was fantastic as always with this series. The dungeon themes in this game were pound for pound some of the absolute best in the series.

And with that, I'm almost all caught up on modern Ys games. Now I only have VIII to go and with perfect timing thanks to Durante. Ys VIII is a big game from what I hear so I'll take a bit of a break before jumping into it. Still got Baldr Sky to play through as well, but I'll probably start it up within the week or so.

Eh, I just started Celceta yesterday.
First few minutes are rough. It's not horrible looking but there is a distinct feeling of just playing a Vita game on a big ass screen, the UI is to blame I think. A graphical effect for one particular story element is horrible and made me go look at the Steam forums to see if it was a bug. It's more talkative than the classic YS, and some people may remember my... confictual relation to Falcom NPC writing. The tutorial sucks spaceship sized balls. Overall the game is gently boring.
...
Then the game starts proper in the plains and I'm ohmygod how can Falcom be so good at Ys.

I got minecraft because my SO plays it and I never play it outside of when they do. Destiny 2 was addictive at first, but now I'm bored of it. Not a fan of the gameplay loop it has.

Finished Boneworks. I really enjoyed it a lot. The story was pretty disjointed, leaving me feeling like they didn't really have much of a story to work with. But man, the vibes and style -- I think it would be a really suitable world for something exceedingly weird but coherent and epic.

As much as I like Celceta, the first 1/3 of that game can be pretty rough, and it doesn't help that the 3 best playing characters are the 3 last characters you recruit (one of them depending on the path you take through the early parts of the game). There was a point that I hit that when I recruited a certain character later in the game who's probably in my top 3 of playable ys characters, that everything really started to click and it was a blast from there.

So, i would say the GOTD is quite good, and think most of the games deserve their spots.
That said, looking over the GOTY list, I have put time into all of 4 of the games nominated across every category. Four. out of roughly 143 games... Man, 2019 truly was my backlog year, as ive definitely beaten more than 4 games, most of them just happen to have been released in another year. Ion Maiden being the one I've actually beaten that was released this year, the other three being Gears 5, Pathologic 2, and Moon of Madness - ongong to varying degrees.

I put Deus Ex: Human Revolution on my list! I love that game and genuinely wish they had done more with the franchise after such a promising start. Sadly Mankind Divided was a letdown. Not only was it half a game at best but changing to a more "open world" structure hurt the way the stories intertwined. The game needed more smaller hubs rather than 1 huge one. Too bad we'll never see the end given how terrible it sold.

I started playing the Switch version of AI: The Somnium Files that I bought a while back, and I wish I could slap everyone that said that this runs fine on the platform. It's embarrassingly bad.

I wish I had bought this on PC.

I'm decades beyond the age sets you mentioned in your post that I snipped a lot out of but play both games.
Minecraft I play a lot and when I say that I mean it's the one game I always have on the go. Destiny 2 I play sometimes but it doesn't stay installed and unless reminded to play somehow It will stay uninstalled.
Unless we talking about the latest "thing" I don't think age has much to do with what games people play looking forward. Looking backwards I think age has a lot more do with what people play,

My wireless Xbox One controller won't charge anymore, despite having an official play & charge pack. I'm aware that rechargeable batteries don't last forever, but 15 months is REALLY short.

I guess I'll just buy some rechargeable AA batteries...

I know it'd be licensing hell but i think it had an interesting take for an online FPS at the time and was a victim of "Not the Shadow Run we wanted." I heard it was good though and people remember it fondly so i think it'd be a good candidate to bring back.
Sorry, I don't know.
I don't own an Xbox One, so I'm out of the loop on that front.
I did own a 360, that is long broken.

As for the game, I guess I would place myself in the "not the Shadowrun we wanted" camp. :)
It was yet another online FPS, whose only difference from most offerings around at the time was the use of magic.
But, I can't say, at all, that the game left a lasting, or positive, impression in me. I remember thinking it was incredibly generic, outside of the use of spells.
I would say you really aren't missing much, to be honest.

Rather than shaming I'd ask what other narrative games you've enjoyed - I'm looking for some!
That's a good question.
I used to play long RPGs (it was always my favourite genre), but in the last decade or so, due to lack of time, I ended up spending my time mostly on "arcade" games, with barely any story content, that I can just pick up and play.

The exception is usually point and click games. Or episodic games. Ideally games that combine both.
Or shorter RPGs, like the ones Spiders usually do.

In terms of adventure games, here are a few random picks from the last few years:

-The Wolf Among Us
-Unavowed (you pretty much can't do no wrong with any of the games developed or published by Wadjet Eye Games)
-Life Is Strange

I'm yet to finish Lamplight City (another game I dropped, and need to get back to it, re-starting it really), but it also left a positive impression.
It's a point and click adventure game, in which you can actually fail your investigations, and unlike most games it's not game over, the game accepts and proceeds with your failure. That was a nice "twist" to the usual formula.

Agreed, I voted for HR as well. It didn't help that MD had denuvo and that SE got into the greediest, slimiest pre-order campaign yet with it. I did not even approach it on release because of all of this. I'm still very reluctant to approach anything with that DRM with a ten-foot pole.

As a game though, I think it was quite nice but wasn't anywhere close to as brilliant as the first one in theme and its ability to evoke and instill a sense of mystery. I can't quite phrase this right but the future just felt miserable and current-day-ish in MD. It is graphically a lot more advanced but it isn't as beautiful or evocative, in my opinion.

I'm tired so that probably makes no sense.

That's a good question.

Thanks! I'm not so much into point and click, but I did like that one Daedalic game. Life is Strange is apparently one I've been sleeping on, I'll give it a shot..

It's surprising that I won. I was not really expecting to win at all :D

PC-tan There's a bunch of people playing Destiny 2 here on Meta but i don't know anyone irl who plays it.
My housemate is in his 40's and his LAN group have a dedicated Minecraft server and he puts hours a week into it. They're playing some mod where you start with one square in the sky at the moment, dunno what it's called but there's a group of about 8 - 10 blokes in their 30's/40's on that server and they have regular LAN Parties too.

I wouldn't say it's an age thing for those two games as they are hugely popular across all ages.

lashman LiS2 will probably be my GOTY 2020! I usually don't vote in GOTY polls and stuff as i don't generally play many games in their year of release. For example i've just restarted Xenoblade Chronicles X, not exactly a new game but i love it.

My GOTD list would change depending on which way the wind was blowing and how good my memory was that day. lol.

I can't find a post about that here, I think more people on here played Diso 1 than Diso 2 (yours truly included!)
Interested to hear impressions on why Diso 1>2 though :3

I'm in the boat of those who think Dishonored is better than the sequel but I couldn't articulate why succinctly.

Dishonored 2 is technically miles above - the gameplay, graphics, sound, all of it is better. But Dishonored has something the sequel doesn't in my opinion : a worthy story. Something to say, and a message of optimism that is nowhere to be found in the second installment.

The first game also had something incredible in its setpieces. Yes, the clockwork mansion is great and yes, that other level with the time thingy but artistically, in terms of stimulating the imagination, none of them did for me what the Golden Cat and Lady Boyle's party achieved. I guess the first game was simpler in a way, but simple is good.

I know how I felt playing the first one. Oppressed by the plague, but also awed at the world, at its little wonders, at its moments of beauty. I'm not sure I felt anything other than mild discomfort at the intense misery despicted in the second one with nothing else to outweigh it. I guess the first game captured a fantasy perfectly well, while the second one forgot to dream for all its elevation of the mechanics.

The second is still a damn good game that anyone into murder-choking-blinking-immersive-sims should play.

Both are worth a look.
Thank you. Atom: RPG seems awesome! Underrail, I've read too many bad things about the difficulty and how you can screw yourself out of the game if you don't minmax like a D&D 3.5 veteran on caffeine.
