Yeah, that mirrors my experience.
There are exceptions, but they are
exceedingly rare and/or unlikely. Basically, if Epic funded Pillars of Eternity 3, or gave Yoko Taro a boatload of money for a new Nier, and they were exclusive forever, then I
might be swayed. But that's pretty much an exhaustive list.
No, wait, Might and Magic XI by the X team, with a larger budget. Do it Epic and you got me (first need to buy the IP from Ubisoft I guess, otherwise you won't prevent them from putting it on Uplay
).
For me, now, I would say no game, none whatsoever, would make me use their store.
Heck, I was crazy about the Shenmue series (and I do mean crazy about it; I even collected demo discs, promotional vhs tapes, ...), and I was always a big fan of Julian Gollop's work (to a point where I owned all his games, and bought a couple of portable consoles to play some of his later games), and not even Shenmue III, and Phoenix Point, both of which I dropped big amounts of € on, made me install the platform. I just refunded them.
Once I did that for these 2, there's no chance in hell I'll ever use it for any game.
I won't even redeem the free games.
When they launched their store, if they, say, invested in some new titles for their platform, like some of their own IPs (I kept waiting for them to release a new Unreal Tournament), I would gladly use their store.
I buy games from every platform under the sun, so it would be no different with the EGS.
But instead, they choose to just annoy, and almost "bully" people into using their store, by going after games that were crowdfunded and promised on other platforms, by going after games for which I was a beta tester for on Steam (like Operencia), by going after games that were just about to launch elsewhere, and even had pre-orders open in other platforms, and similiar crap.
Timmy apparently runs their business as if he's playing an online shooter, where trash talk and annoying people is part of the course.
That may work with some people, especially a younger crowd. With me, after the crap they pulled with games I helped crowdfund, they can forget it.
