Two representatives of my city's council brought a huge cake for my daughter, because she made many drawings, presents and letters for the people in lockdown in a [UWSL]retirement home nearby. She also got a few stickers with "Corona hero". I'm so proud of her!

I see problems ahead for America and we could have real issues by the fourth of july.
Most states half assed lockdowns and there was zero guidance on a federal level. No unified plan. We had a window to set up contact tracing and prepare for a nation wide reopening that is data driven. Welp.
World wide, a lot of darkness. A little morbid for a Monday morning but its what was on my mind all Sunday.
With the kind of news explosion that followed the US protests, I have completely lost track of where the COVID situation was. I'm honestly kind of dreading bad news in a couple weeks from now following the end of confinement for some countries and the widespread protests.
People are currently getting careless over here. Streets are full, shops overflowing, you have to make online appointments if you want to visit a zoo, park or a public swimming pool. Masks are also mandatory for all indoor activities, but so many people are sure that everything is already over and even masks no longer necessary. I had a technician (from my ISP) at my home a couple of weeks ago and before I opened the door I prepared disinfectant and put on my own mask. He looked at me like I was crazy for asking him to put on a mask and disinfect his hands before entering.
He is visiting 8+ costumers per day, at least sometimes eating fast food from public restaurants for lunch, also sometimes using public restrooms and he wonders why he at least should were a mask? Come on Mr. Technician, should you become ill you are potentially spreading the virus like crazy! Why is that so hard to understand?
And despite masks and "strikt" distance rules, we already had new mass outbreaks in germany because of a church mass and a party at a restaurant. Officials had it under control reasonably fast and traced down enough people to prevent a new hot spot. But a couple of hundred new infected, quarantined people still means that some of them will (statistically) die. And all because the waiter at the restaurant didn't wear his mask and took place at one of the tables to talk to the guests. Or at least that's the official story.
I'm also worried about people joining protests currently. Don't get me wrong I understand the need, but I fear for their safety. Not only because of police brutality, but also because of the danger of mass infections. It's a freaking nightmare scenario the u.s. are currently going through.
The same goes for south america, for a bit different reasons and many other regions.
Dark times indeed and I felt sad and angry for nearly two months. Getting better recently, but I'm mentally preparing myself for things getting worse again this fall. People are to careless imo and once the weather starts getting colder again, making it more easy for the virus to survive and spread things could go down rather quickly. I so hope I'm wrong.

Indonesia has moved to "new normal" as well, opening up business and stuff. The result is, in the last 3 days we've had 1k new cases per day. The main problem for us is, the number of tests is still too low, less than 10k per day. Meanwhile, the positive rate per tests within a day is 15% or so. Assuming that the virus is already spread nationwide, we're looking at 37.5 million people infected.

Yeah France is pretty normal now, except restaurants are on the streets and mask is mandatory on public transports. But seems France is doing quite well at the moment.

I'm still isolating as much as i have done for the last few months and that's not going to change for a long while even if more people seem to be thinking it's over and we're all immune. Craziness.
Anyway, how long would it be before this thing was full of crumpled paper and other stuff people would be drawn to throwing into it?

I'm surprised to see how well it seems to go in Europe, even with things being open and people have more or less forgot about it.
I heard a while ago and read recently again that people usually get contaminated in closed spaces. Like at work, weddings, etc. Apparently, there are very very few clusters of cases of people in the open like parks, etc. So if everything is done correctly in the transportation and in the buildings, people should be fine.
I am still wearing a mask in the streets though. Even if I am one of the few last ones. Better than another lockdown.

I know what it is like to have to host a funeral during these COVID times. Spoiler, its less fun than usual. Many more will have the chance to experience this when it didn't have to be this way.

It goes well, until it doesn't. We have a region with 500k in lockdown here in Germany. A new hotspot started forming there.
It was (again) a big meat factory/slaughterhouse that started it. It's cold there, air gets recirculated, people work in harsh conditions, close to each other. Mostly workers from eastern Europe are being used, payment and housing being poor doesn't help either.
Always immigrants/guest workers doing the hard, poorly paid, dirty jobs that nobody else wants to do. No matter where. But they are also often unwelcome and taking away jobs that nobody else is willing to do for that payment. Big crime indeed, but not from them.
Texas was being briefly mentioned in the news yesterday. They are running out of intensive care beds over there. I hope the mass dying doesn't start in three weeks again.
The paranoia one feels when one starts to get a regular cold. Thankfully a runny nose is not a regular covid thing so I'm calm. But at first I was "oh my god!"
Yeah I have a fullblown cold now, if it didn't start and mostly just stay in the nose I would be really worried.
Any and all colds going forward are going to be making people really worried.
Dreading even the cooler weather myself. Sept/Oct are months I generally enjoy (summer still number 1!) but this year they're going to be a 61 day descent into fear and anxiety. Every sniffle, any fever and I'm running to get a covid test, if they're even available while what remains of the USA burns to the ground around me.
So masks are going to be obligatory in closed public spaces in France now. Think its good! But now sure how to eat candy when going to the cinema and candy is like 90% of the reason I go there!XD

Heh, you're ahead of me! It took from March 15th until May 25th before I even went to a grocery store! France did a real good fucking job of getting stuff under control, so you guys earned the freedom.
I'm used to the "mask indoors thing", was mandated in my state from April 8th! It sucks but the alternative sucks too.
We are trying to have a bit more normal life as numbers for my city are pretty good. We have sometimes days without new cases. People are wearing masks indoors. Though you see them being a bit more negligent outside and there are the weird, selfish asshole protesters from time to time. But even they wear a mask while shopping, because they have to. Wearing a mask is mandatory across the republic for months now.
I took my wife to a restaurant once (nice sit on a balcony, over viewing a river). But if we do something, we do it mostly for the kids: Ice-cream here and there during a bike tour, a pizza from their favorite restaurant, etc. But no cinema, no public swimming pools or many other typical summer activities.
We talked to them, explained what is going on and that there are many people out there going through exactly the same or even harder times. But that there are also many scientists, workers and other people actively working without a pause to find a way out. I think it's important to not give them the feeling like it's us alone against the pandemic. They seem to understand, but it's still hard for them.
We have many people in our family that have a high risk of not making it, should the Virus come to them. Finding the right balance between risk of getting an infection and not "punishing" your kids is impossible. I feel like we are getting more lenient all the time, while being afraid that we might bring that thing into our family.
The problem with a normal life for me is: If you get infected, you are guaranteed to infect other people as well. Probably also people that tried to minimize the risk as much as possible. Monooboe a cold? during summer? Sure, can be. But at least do the reasonable thing and get yourself tested before running around like there is no pandemic at all.

ISee I do get cold often in the summer! Didn't really have symptoms for covid and was even mild for a cold. But I still try to be careful as if it wasn't just a cold, meaning mask whenever I'm close to people, use hand sanitizer whenever I'm about to touch stuff other people are going to touch. I did however infect the girl I'm seeing but I told her about me having a cold but she still needed to come over.

speaking of loaded guns, I got an email saturday that someone got tested positive for covid and those who were near theeperson were to be tested. My GM told me that I wasn't around so I didn't need to be tested.
That was a lie.
Apparently I worked the same shift with this person twice and have crossed paths with them. Oh, the people who were tested? they were allowed back at work the next day before they got the results back.

I think we will need to coexist with it sooner or later. Hopefully the vaccine will be available asap.
I have no idea how the Japanese lucked out on the first wave and I'm seriously wondering how accurate the metric was. The government's response has been really terrible :/.
I was in Tokyo during the first wave and arguably they did better. The country announced emergency in early April, many restaurants and stores were shut down and companies carried out home office. Now? The whole situation is obviously worse than the first wave but they chose to did nothing;
Actually, they did something worse. In order to improve domestic tourism, there is a scheme called "Go To Campaign" going on.It offers rebates to local travelers when they resides in local hotels. They exclude all Tokyo people from the scheme at last minute to reduce intra-country flow but still. now the whole country is at risk. Anyway, they have been doing a shit job during second wave. No home office. No emergency. Nothing. And tbh, many Japanese people love partying and going to bars and nightclubs and thus many new cases originated from red night districts in Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. I am so disappointed by the way they handle the whole situation, and hopefully all of the people I know can stay safe and healthy.
Don't believe that the French government has the situation under control either: the number of new daily cases is slowly but surely increasing again. So far, the situation is "under control", because there are few patients in the hospitals, but there is always a delay between "new cases" and "new hospitalizations".

Yeah we have something similar in the UK: the "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme.
Basically everyone each (meaning: per person!) gets 50% off (up to 10£) their bill in selected restaurants, 3 days a week in August.
Now, let alone the sheer idiocy of including fast food chains instead of actually helping local restaurants, you get the discount only if you eat in!
Take out and eat in the park 200m away from the next person? NOPE.
