Last one, I promise!

I prefer Voyager over DS9, but only because I like Voyagers characters more, especially the Doctor and Seven of Nine. I never got attached to Sisko, Kira or Julian. DS9 is still a good show with many wonderful and deep episodes tho.
The Doctor and 7 of 9 were both excellent. When talking about DS9's side characters I don't really mean the starfleet crew. They were mostly ok but nothing special. Now Garak, Gul Dukat, Weyoun, Odo, Quark, that's where the meat of the series is. And Morn of course. Some great lines out of him throughout the series.

I also like Nog, especially in hindsight. It's one of the side characters with a good ark. But my favorite one is still Garak. Best Star Trek Spy ever.

What I didn't like about Voyager were the new Borg, though the first contact movie is more to blame.
Borg were a great villain because they were technologically advanced, ruthless and diplomacy was futile. They were the counterpoint to Starfleet in the "universe". Starfleet was expanding through technology and diplomacy. Borg were expanding through technology and force.

This changed in Voyager. The borg were close to extinction for some time and needed Starfleets help and because of that talking to them and even small treaties were effective. Still some cool Borg episodes, but Borg became a bit of a normal threat.

And Morn of course. Some great lines out of him throughout the series.
:toucan:

This is a new game by the devs of:

Devs do not seem to discount their games very often. It is usually a discount at launch, and then zero discount afterwards.
So you might want to get it now to save 1 €.

I'm on team Next Generation. That was the best one. I've been watching Deep Space 9 on Netflix. Its good but TNG tops it for me. I remember an old point and click TNG game from around the dos era that i loved but got stuck at a point and young me didnt know what to do and there was no internet to find out so i never got passed it.

You're probably talking about A Final Unity. I played that to completion back in the day and I remember really enjoying it. Fully voiced by the cast too!

Building my VN degenerate library on Steam today. I imported all of them in physical copies from Japan and these only account for 1/3 of my collection

While having a physical library really feels good, some of them have DRM like requiring internet authentication or inputting serial code. Luckily, both only need to be done once. Now I have added them onto steam, I can access them with the click of a button. Most importantly. seeing that they are placed side-by-side with vertical banners makes me happy. Here is the list of what they are:

First Row
  • Ayakashibito
  • Chou Dengeki Stryker (Available on Steam)
  • Kikouyoku Senki Tenkuu no Yumina
  • Kikouyoku Senki Tenkuu no Yumina FD -ForeverDreams-
  • PriministAr
  • Schwarzesmarken: Junkyousha-tachi

Second Row
  • Schwarzesmarken: Kouketsu no Monshou
  • Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (KS funded)
  • Te to Te Try On!
  • Tenmom Dokei no Aria
  • Tokyo NECRO
  • Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na -Brighter than Dawning Blue-

The only one I have completed is Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, and that is eight years ago! Utterly fantastic, I still remember the main twists and tons of scenes after all these years. You people really need to play it when it hits Steam.

Now, I should be tackling them one-by-one in near future. Maybe interchanging from slice of life to battle story to avoid burnout. Tenmom Dokei no Aria is a low-priced title so I may start with it first.

Do anyone of you use the "favorite" collection as a shelf and if so, how many games do you have there? And do you have those games in another collection?
Let me check.
My 'favorite' collection is more or less comprised of all my installed games, and some others that I should play soon. In order to have the less use of other collections...
  • whose importance has been diminished with the tag system making it possible to create one at the drop of a hat
  • because in the year of our Lord 2020, Steam still randomly opens some collections for fun and giggles, and I don't like that. One. Bit.

Avengers is probably the blandest game I've played in recent memory, even by AAA standards.

First, the available heroes: Thor and Captain America seem to be kinda decent to play, even if they were underutilized in this beta, for the sole reason that they're basically "borrowed" from other games. Thor plays like Kratos from the latest God of War game, he can even throw the hammer and call it back, Captain America felt a lot like a Rocksteady's Batman from the very short session you're allowed to use him as a character. Kamala is also kinda decent, with her extending arm that you can use as grappling hook. Black Widow is like the archetype of a "videogame character": a very bland jack of all trades kind of character with really nothing special or particularly fun. Iron Man and the Hulk are just plain awful, the first is just bad with his boring ranged aerial attacks, the Hulk is button mashing at its finest and is a lot like playing a musou game. Gameplay-wise, they're the most boring group of characters you can think of.

So, you start the game and you're forced to go through a 2 hrs long session presenting you all the various characters. This is a tedious linear and scripted mission showcasing all the worst this game can offer: dull writing, terrible cinematic scenes with lots of QTEs (I thought the hideous QTEs era was over?), plenty of chests to open with meaningless stuff inside, a ridiculous amount of nerdy fan service with a lot of Easter eggs and references that I suppose are there only to excite Marvel nerds that "got all the references" and hide how bland the whole game is. You also go through two boss fights during this scripted session: one with Black Widow, which is terrible, and one with Hulk, which is kinda enjoyable to play in its total lack of interesting mechanics.

Then there's a badly written and terribly paced walking simulator bit in the Avengers ship (however it's called) and then you can finally select a mission!

And then there's the mission... which is like the aforementioned 2 hrs session without the cool cut scenes. Go to point A, button mash your way through a bunch of enemies, hold X, go to point B, button mash your way through a bunch of enemies, hold X, button mash your way through a bunch of enemies, mission over. Congrats.

You can also see how many exploitative mechanics this game will have: you have accelerators and FUT-like cards to unlock costumes, among other stuff.

Seeing two talented studios (one more than the other) wasted on this production is kinda sad. I hope it bombs but it won't because the Avengers brand is huge enough atm to make this game a success, which means both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal will be busy on it for a while... and it sucks.

Anybody remember Star Trek: Borg (The Game)?
What a pile of garbage. I played through it multiple times and loved it.

Best Star Trek Game actually came out a couple of years ago:

If you have a couple of Star Trek knowledgeable friends with VR: It's an awesome fantasy trip! I can not recommend it enough.

Second best was already mentioned and is kind of similar to Bridge Crew: It's Bridge Commander. Though it is unfortunately not available through gog or other sources :(.

All this Star Trek games talk reminds that the two Elite Force games are still basically abandonware :cryingwhyblob: After all, Elite Force 1 is literally the only good thing to come out of Voyager.
Wish someone, like Night Drive Studios, would pick them up and release modern versions of them.

I had a similar problem, my account balance was at 0 everywhere (and my order history was gone too) but it showed up once I tried to actually buy the game.

Well I was looking into using it for Forza 3, but as I would have to put some more money on it, I'm not sure if it will work.

Windows Store stopped working for me.
It is greyed out. No further information what is wrong.
I cannot uninstall it because it is greyed out. Followed all "google" troubleshooting steps like checking time zone, emptying cash etc. Even tried to reinstall it via powershell. :shrugblob:

Look Microsoft, there is only so much as a standard user that I can do.

The site refuses to open Paypal, disabled uBlock, no dice :thinking-blob:

Edit - I got Firefox'd, nothing to see here. But now I'm not sure my FOMO is enough to buy a game I will probably not play.
The Australia setting sure looks nice, though :thinking-blob:

Already did. No luck
That sucks. I guess even if you buy anything from the website, you still need the app to download through the app itself.
Saying that I don't have any problems with the app probably doesn't help you at all...

One final advice:
Have you tried to restart the computer?

Have you tried to restart the computer?
Yes, of course.
But thanks for the help.

It was working a couple of days ago. Only thing that I did was to update the BIOS yesterday, but that shouldn't stop the windows store from working.

edit: After good 90 minutes of troubleshooting the store suddenly opened and is now stuck at 95% updating. But downloading the app I wanted was fast.
I swear I want back to windows 7.
Stupid UWP, windows store dreck.

Remember the old 4X ST game Birth of the Federation? Man, I lost many hours into that.

Star Trek Armada was also cool.

I wish someone localized this but like Muramasa and as anything Nitroplus I guess it'll never happen
Finger-crossed. I have a feeling that it will be localized in the future. If Baldr Sky can be tackled, this one can be dealt with as well. It is much shorter than Baldr Sky and Muramasa if stat on vndb is correct. With Chinese fan translation of Muramasa, I remember spending 40 hours on one single route (around 3/5 being common route) and there are four or five routes in total. That game is just crazily long and the localization team will definitely face difficult to break even the cost.

I plan to return to Muramasa in the future without the help of fan translation, but I am not confident that my Japanese is up to that level now. So meantime, I will focus on some other titles first.

I would recommend watching TOS, but maybe do not make it your first Star Trek show anymore? It is a different Zeitgeist. But there are actually good ideas there.

Start with TNG, and keep in mind that the first seasons have many weird episodes. Like the pilot itself being terrible.
Or when the writers guild went on strike and they opened season two with an old TOS script. A very, very bad TOS script.

Im trying to get into Civ VI, but after only playing Civ V for the last few years I have problems. It's both in terms of UI and graphic style.
I suggest you try to apply for Humankind Open Dev (Amplitude Studios). If you played and liked Endless Legends before, think about Humankind game as a foundation of what's going to be the next CIV competitor.

As far as CIV VI, I didn't have any issue when I played it 2 years ago. I think there weren't any expansions available at the time but I had fun with it.
I don't know honestly how much impact or changes those expansions might take on the UI aspect. On the graphic style.. well, it's the major complain for many. Maybe you can get used to it if you really can get past any other issues you find on the game

I think the episode guide by Dan Murrell is pretty good, it includes 57 TNG episodes. Murrell is a big fan of Star Trek and I would recommend his channel for general movie stuff as well.

If you want to start watching Star Trek, you should use an episode guide.
There's just too much poop that is not worth watching. There's really bad stuff in every series.

But I think what matters the most is the ending episode(s).
And while it is fitting for Voyager (cool concept, rushed like fuck, Janeway being yet again batshit insane), excellent for TNG and very welcome after the last seventh season being not so good, it's DS9 that will always be very sour for me.
DS9 has the best arcs in the entire franchise, straight up. But the last episode is so, so bad. Subtlety and ambiguity about deity and religion was a big component of the series, and it ends on a good VS evil fight that wouldn't be out of place in TOS... it feels like it was written by a child in church.

And let's not forget Enterprise's ending, a gimmick to bring old actors back that made one of the top 5 worst episodes of the franchise, just to end a great season on a really bad note, after the series finally found its footing from years of struggle.

At least I have some hope for Discovery season 3, they might be bring back some of the more utopic aspects of Star Trek in a place where it is fairly justified why it wouldn't be so great.
Picard was just a big misfire from start to finish.

While I see the benefits of an episode guide and I think this one is good (so far).
I'd still recommend going through a series in chronological order. Just skip anything that is too cheesy or bad after the initial 15 minutes. There are certainly a couple DS9 episodes about the wormhole aliens that I'm always skipping for example.

No matter how good an episode guide is, I'm sure it can't satisfy every personal preference. A bit like with game reviews...
