I'm afraid that even epic won't have a hat big enough for Rockstar, I totally believe in Rockstar ditching steam for their social club that I never will be member of.
2K otoh can go either way,

never say never ... you theoretically could've said the same thing about Division (obviously nowhere near as big as rockstar stuff, but still - not exactly a small unpopular [even on PC] game) ... and yet, here we are

The only thing worth remembering about T2 is that as far as I remember, earnings reports have shown in the past that they don’t nearly make the amount of money you would expect a company of their size to make. Their money largely comes from like two sources, GTA and NBA. And now Red Dead I guess.

So hypothetically I guess they could be amenable to some kind of super profitable exclusivity deal. But it’d have to be so much money that I can’t help but think it’d be worth the EGS more bang for their buck to just buy exclusivity for dozens of other games instead.

That take two story today really gave me a sigh of relief that I've needed for a while. I've been scared to death that Outer Worlds was going to get taken off Steam and while it can still happen I feel a lot better about it today.

technically The Outer Worlds is Private Division, not Take2 .... just saying

seriously, man - at this point the ONLY guarantee we'll have a game on steam is when it's actually out and people can buy it (although i'm sure even that won't be true for much longer) .... other than that - we have ZERO guarantee, no matter if it's a store page, pre-orders, logo in trailers, promises from devs/publishers or whatever else

thanks, epic ...

As I said before here...the daily dreading thanks to Epic is now part of my routine. Even if we rise above and ignore the companies that decide to take the moneyhat, we still have to deal with the threads on Era. You would think that a CEO of big company stating the obvious we give the "EGS Defenders" a little pause, but no... they are out in force.

Still, for now it is good news. Going to be interesting to see if the other gaming journalists say anything about his statement.

I don't think there's any reason to feel down about the current situation. The community's reaction was great, Epic's moneyhatting encountered very strong resistance and as I've said before, multiple journalists writing damage control articles means that significant damage has already been made. No doubt Epic will continue to spend money but many developers will think twice before agreeing now that they know they'll face significant backlash. Some games' Steam release will be delayed but, looking at the big picture, I think we're winning.

Yep, the most important part is that the PC community has largely stayed united against Epic's incursion. We have some stupid takes from within the nominally "PC" community, like some dumb PC Gamer articles, but that's about it.

Obviously, you also don't want to overstate the importance of niche online communities, since they usually constitute microscopic fractions of the larger user base. But when communities like /r/pcgaming and /r/steam (obviously) number in the hundreds of thousands, and have an palpable dislike towards Epic permeating through them, that means the resistance to Epic's business practices are still holding among the hardcore enthusiasts.

Maybe eventually Epic will hit upon a big enough maneuver that they turn more people towards their store, but we haven't hit that point. If I were Valve though, I would be careful not to take the loyalty and holding out for granted. It is entirely possible that the longer this goes on, the more Epic begins to wear users through, and it'd be better for Valve to take some punches before that happens.

I honestly reached a point where I couldn't care less about what Epic money hats or not.
If a game is available in my platform of choice, I'll buy it. If it isn't, I'll skip it (and probably stop buying games from the publisher in question; if they don't want my money, I'm happy to keep it :p ).

I'm a huge fan of Tim Cain, but even despite that if The Outer Worlds ends up, for some reason, as a EGS exclusive, I'll have no hesitations in skipping it.
Biomutant caught my eye. If it launches on EGS only, it will be more money in my pocket.
Heck, I am a huge fan of the Shenmue series (to the point I have rare demos, promotional VHS tapes, ...), and if Shenmue III ends up as an EGS exclusive, you can be sure I'll ask for a refund of my Kickstarter contribution.

I keep saying all this EGS nonsense will only make me save money.
And, it's true.
All this has resulted, is that I simply won't buy games that I otherwise would from some of these publishers (for example, Annapurna Interactive, Team17, ...), and it has made me take a long look at my backlog, and realize I have many, probably better, games I'm yet to play, than those I'm looking to buy.

As an anecdote, the current Lunar New Year's sale is a good example.
We're on the 3rd day of the sale, and so far, I'm at... -54,99€ spent.
Yeah, minus 54,99.
How? I refunded Far Cry: New Dawn Deluxe Edition with the intention of re-buying it, and take advantage of the discount, but now that I have the money in my wallet, I'm asking: do I really want to support Ubisoft, after the crap they pulled with The Division 2?

yeah, that's true ... although - i don't think comparisons like "well we didn't let MS go forward with paid online" really apply any more .... back then PC players were few and far between, mostly "hardcore" people ... that's not the case nowadays, so if enough of the "casual" people (people who don't bother browsing forums, reddit etc. and only play occasionally) decide to support epic - that's all they really need to keep going ... so ... yeah ...

yeah, it's pretty much the same for me right now ... i don't think there's ANY game that would actually force me to install yet another launcher ... even if it was RDR2 or the first RDR ... i just can't be bothered any more, it's only video games - it's supposed to be a fucking hobby, not a job (playing them, i mean) :p

Well, I see it like this: the casual audience for AAA games mostly plays on console and the audience for indie and niche games isn't casual. I don't think it'll be an issue.

Note: I'm not using 'casual' in a derogatory manner. My 20-something self would definitely consider my current self a casual gamer.

yeah, i know what you mean, no worries :p

but yeah - i'm just worried the "I don't care where I play my games as long as I can play them" audience might be just big enough for them to keep going ... that's all

because let's face it - most of PC players don't give a fuck about all that situation (unfortunately) ... even when you see hundreds of thousands people on reddit being angry about that - that's still a rather tiny minority of all the people playing on PC ... and you have to imagine even a good part of those people will cave eventually

If the Fortnite base was easily converted to $60 games there wouldn't be the need to do all this exclusivity deals. Just putting the game on Egs would be enough to generate huge business (even if we don't know how many of the Fortnite players are on PC).

Now, if they can convert even 10% of it would still be big, but so far I haven't seen any moves in that direction aside from being in the same launcher. And it would be simple in some cases. I'm sure a unique skin or something for the price of buying Hades would generate sales.

but yeah - i'm just worried the "I don't care where I play my games as long as I can play them" audience might be just big enough for them to keep going ... that's all
That *is* the question. The more enthusiast audience is obviously against Egs for now, so the success or not of all of this depends on the "semi-casual" and the Fortnite player base.

this is what actually gives me a bit of hope tbh

i mean - if it was a sizeable portion they'd be shouting about it from the mountaintops ... and yet - they aren't ... which potentially means it's not that many people out of all the Fortnite players

Yeah, no way they get Fortnite players to buy Metro in way that is sustainable.
I hate to be a broken record, but I seriously do not understand why there is not a better attempt at conversion going on.

This burgeoning storefront initiative has access to the most popular game in the world. If you're going to try and convert those players into store users, why are they not doing crazy cross-promotion?

Pre-order Metro Exodus and get an exclusive Artyom skin for Fortnite.

Support Hades during Early Access and get exclusive Red/The Kid/Jodariel/Hedwyn skins for Fortnite.

Buy The Walking Dead Season 3 and get an exclusive Lee Everett skin for Fortnite.

Buy Ashen and get exclusive backbling and pickaxes molded after content from the game for Fortnite,

Buy Dauntless and get an exclusive Pet modeled after Dauntless' Behemoths for Fortnite.

All Battlepass Owners get 20% off their first Epic Game Store Purchase.

Etc, etc, etc.

Hell, the funny thing is, they probably could have done that stuff without buying exclusivity for the games, and they might actually get a lot of sales because of how much people want skins and such.

Their whole initiative is so half-assed.

yeah ... it really is

from the outside it basically looks like one day (not that long ago!) they just went like "hmm, we have a fuckload of money ... let's make a store" ... and then decided to do it by moneyhatting exclusives, for some reason

Yeah, I have said this many times too. Valve did this with TF2,CSGO,Dota2 and I don't think those has been failutres at all.

People already buy other stuff just to get bundled Fortnite skins too.

So does anyone know the combination of effects that is causing this?

Basically there are things that are not shiny (in this case some scratches from wheels) are showing up shiny. The screenshot unfortunately doesn't show off the whole effect - it looks very shimmery in game.

This one shows up even farther from the way it looks in game, but you can see something weird going on

Played a few missions of Ace Combaty 7, it's pretty fun.
Are the AI mates fighting proper and kill things or are they just decoration?
As far as I could tell, it seemed like the AI squadmates will kill things on occasion, but only things that are non-objectives. I.e., they’ll shoot down part of a pack of drones, but they won’t shoot down an enemy ace pilot.

Not sure how the behavior changes by difficulty setting though, or if I just didn’t notice properly what they were doing.

From what I noticed 8 missions in now, it's like Sampson said. They will kill things, like random things, but not your (Red) targets or special enemies.

I have seen them chase the mission targets, hit them with missiles even and cause explosions, yet it always requires a machine-gun burst or missile from myself to actually destroy the mission objective targets.

Two Point Hospital just received a big update that adds a lot of customization options, with workshop support:

Oh shit! I really liked what I played of it on release but I only did the first couple levels I think. Workshop support is mental, I can't even imagine how amazing this could be.

Am I the only one that was unaware that Triangle Service (the Japanese team behind shmups like XIIZEAL and DELTAZEAL, among others) has released two titles last year?

Arcade Love, a compilation of 3 arcade titles:

GyroShooter, a game with gyro controls:

---

Iris.Fall looks really cool:

This team (NEXT Studios) is worth a look.
Their games so far have been quite affordable, and very enjoyable.

Their previous releases:

Huh. There was a really detailed post...somewhere? MC maybe? About all of the graphics settings and there was something about certain settings that conflicted and caused something like this. Except I can’t recall where it was.

The first "boss" in Ace Combat 7 was cool as fuck.

Anyone play Lobotomy Corporation? I’ve been considering it for awhile. Looks really interesting
It's a pretty unique rogue-lite management game.
Can feel a bit shallow at times, but then you suddenly have a monster that does the weirdest shit requiring you to look up a bunch of wikis just to understand it.

I'd definitely recommend taking a look, but the translation was a bit issue-ridden at launch, no idea if it improved since.

Rather interesting to see Jump Force among the top sellers. I don't think it's top 10 in global, but it's nice to see interest in it. I'm sadly not too excited to get it soon myself, but I'll def. grab it down the line.

Evoland 2 is a proper and real good videogame, something i highly recommend to play.
Evoland 1 on the other hand is a 2 hour long game that basically hand holds you the entire time and feels more like a demo/prototype for Evoland 2 in comparison.
