With my 2070 Super out of the picture for the time being and me using a 970 I am kinda mad at myself for buying a PS5 instead of a XSX. Nothing that I have here for PS5 motivates me currently. But then I have 4 Pringles cans with Gamepass 1 week codes on them and there would be some stuff on there that I probably would've played. :neutral-face:
I have both and in general I find myself using my XSX way more actually.

I think the digital age will force their hand. So many people buy their games digitally these days they are gonna want to play them down the line on hardware that isn't dead/supported. Nvidia is as good of a hardware partner as you can have nowadays too so as longs as their next system is indeed a new BC Switch...they will probably stick to this strategy until the end of the decade.
I think you're correct here that no matter what Nintendo's strategy is, they'll be forced to go along with this due to digital, and treat the Switch as more of a platform and just keep on releasing upgrades since they have their partnership with Nvidia.

That's one thing that makes me confident about BC that will last a long time regardless of how weird Nintendo can be with this and their online.

I could see that with Gamepass. Like, I was holding off playing Call of the Sea, The Touryst and other indie stuff that looks colorful because if I had an Xbox Series X because it would make it easier for me to play on my OLED. Been looking for a nicer PC monitor for a while but at this point I will probably wait with that until I have a system that can run games at 4K at 60+FPS

I played the Touryst as part of Gamepass and it was okay at best. The main thing that game has going for it are mainly it's visuals and that's about it. I was able to get all of the achievements and stuff but having to go back and forth from island on the boat was rather annoying though. And some of the platform sections were very meh/felt like they were made much harder than they needed to be.

3 of the mini games that I didn't like because of how "hard" they were, were one of the arcade games, this one pull up thing, and this one rythm game.

I'm not sure about that, hopefully they will do BC, Sony and MS did. With MS BC is a very big selling point compared to PS5 and N/S especially because of some of the extra stuff MS is doing with it, this is not the case of what Nintendo or Sony are doing.

People have large digital libraries and it's very likely that because of poor planning that they didn't think ahead about if software would work on future hardware and about maintaining online services.

By the way I feel that no matter what Nintendo will very likely force you to rebuy their old stuff.

I just fed a scalper by overpaying 50% for a playstation 5 digital edition. It is a bid on an auction site, but will presumably go through in 4 hours (because I overpaid compared with other offers)

My reasoning is that checking on the PS5 availability through regular channels is costing me time and effort and possibly despair, so it is worth a premium to buy myself free of that

This turned out to be premature. I dropped out of the bidding war after another 100 euro had been added to the price.

Hey, I received an email from a big French retailer telling me that they will soon receive some PS5 stock and asking if I was still interested.
I insta confirmed, but it's not like I had the money. At the same time it doesn't hurt to keep my place in the queue.

Though it's one of the retailers that had the biggest fail with the PS5 stock, and I confirmed at 19pm or something while the email was sent at 15pm, so there is a good chance everything is moot.

And thinking about it some more today, with the planned PS4 ports, there is far less urgency for me.

Everything that's happening to Sony Japan Studios sucks.

Makes no sense with how much money Sony is swimming in.

Maybe they are gearing up to acquire some big Publisher in Japan? Drop several billion for Capcom or Square. Its probably the only thing left they can do to compete with Nintendo in that territory.

They downsize their own studio meaning that they don't want to compete with Nintendo in Japan. This fucking sucks.

There are many angry Japanese PS fans on twitter now.

Its unfortunate. The Japanese support for the Switch in last week's Direct was really great. So many different type of games from different genres. And it was well received too while carrying Nintendo's lack of 1st party stuff.

I don't get how Sony wouldn't want the same. They could have used that type of support in today's State of Play.

This. Even Microsoft is trying to improve their Japanese presence. It is so weird that Sony is doing the complete opposite by cutting loose their own Japanese developers, who were pretty much core to their success in PS / PS2 era.

Maybe they think that the Japanese 3rd party will always release their games on PS. But this action really sends out a bad message to these developers. I think the Japanese support of PS will only be spiraling down now.

So, Arceus set for early 2022 is the next properly ambitious game in the series (probably delayed, or cancelled, or shit because pokemon company can't) and in the mean time they'll first release the traditional conventional remake and the snap game to keep the series going and interest high. Hope BOTWmon works out, for now it's super rough like some BOTW alpha with how technically bad it seems, jagged af with low fps and lower fps animations etc. Fingers crossed.

Hmm personally don't like chibi-like graphical direction Pokemon Brilliant Diamond chose to take. Also, super iffy banner. :shrugblob:

Is that Acreus game a "mainline" Pokemon game like Sword/Shield? Have no clue about the Pokemon games.

Inasmuch as it's being developed by Game Freak rather than being outsourced, yes. But it's also not a dual release game so we're either looking at a (much welcomed) change of direction for the series going forward or this is being treated as something else. They are calling it Pokemon Legends, so that suggests to me that this may be a new line of Pokemon RPGs that runs concurrently with the main series. That said, people were saying the Let's Go series was going to do that and right now that series looks dead to me.

Maybe they are using it as a way to test some new ideas before committing to a new direction for the mainline games. It's fair to say that the direction of travel in mainline Pokemon games is a constant tug of war between tradition and progression. Take the games forward too much and people will complain that it doesn't feel like a Pokemon game anymore, but if they stick too close to the tried and true formula a different subset of people will groan that it's just the same game again.

So to make a long answer short: yes and no. [UWSL]:shrugblob:[/UWSL]

Happy they are doing something new and ambitious with Pokemon but that definitely looks very early alpha build.

No chance it actually hits early 2022 imo. It will be delayed to 2023.

Also first BOTW now Legends. Its almost guaranteed now the next mainline Mario will also be open world. Expect Nintendo to do that with all their big games just to see if their dev teams make it work and what kind of reception/sales they get. Maybe even the new Metroid will be Destiny/Borderlands like.

Looks like all the console makers have embraced open world 1st party. The age of linear corridor action games is all but dead. I bet even the new Perfect Dark will have some type of hub and semi open world.

I think D&P remakes look fine, Pearl is the only Pokemon game I finished, so it will be nice to give it a go 15 years later.

Are D&P the ones that were complemented by Platinum ?

I haven't played it just yet but from the looks of it, Bowser's Fury looks like open world. So perhaps that is another indication that the next Mario will be open world and Bowser's Fury is a way of them testing it out.

Yeah, Platinum was like a revised version of the D&P games.

Price of the system, price of the games, debatable design choices that could become a nuisance, price of magic sauce SSD...
PS5 is an expensive endeavor, I don't think that's debatable :thinking-face:

start of new gen
I wonder how much sense this makes economically. I am in total sunk cost fallacy mode right now, and will buy Demon's Souls to get "value" out of my console purchase, but it seems like reasonable people will buy much fewer games with prices like this.

God, why I haven't heard of mClassic before? I really want one now after watching some videos. This thing does magic to old games and switch titles.

I am curious the price, if it is going to be the same price and the base model will drop in price or if they will just raise the price by 50-100USD.

I am assuming it will be more expensive, but still hoping it is the same price overall.

I wonder what the specs will be like.

Im waiting for 13 Aegis to go to sub 20 before I buy it.

Maybe a PC version will be announced by then.

:(
I rented it since I know I'll only play it once. It's more of a visual novel with a tacked on tower defense minigame, but the nonlinear storytelling is really novel. Half the fun is trying to piece together the story and realizing how wrong your theories were when a big revelation happens. I've played it about 11 hours and I sorta have an idea of where the story is going, but I could be completely wrong.

4k compatibility will mean its probably 50-100$ more expensive. The newer Shield was like that iirc.

And they will still sell out because it will probably launch with new Zelda.

Then next year they do lite versions for 100$ cheaper.

Interested to learn how games will run on it. Hopefully locked 30fps for Age of Calamity as well as Botw2.

Resolution-wise, I will probably have a mClassic by then so I don't worry too much.

Yeah, that would be unfortunate if it is that much more. I will probably sit it out until at least next year, unless the price happens to be the same/less OR the specs are a considerable bump. I just do not want to spend more for a small bump, then have a Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo sees as its successor, launch in 1-2 years.

I honestly don't believe it'd cost more since the vanilla switch is already 4 year old hardware (even though it got a performance bump in 2019)

it'll be the new base model to not confuse casuals
