A couple of days ago, I couldn't decide on what to vote on for GOTY because I only had 4 games that felt good enough to qualify. Now I just finished playing through Unsighted and The Forgotten City, and my new issue is that I can't decide which of those two deserves my 5th spot. :dizzy-face:

Unsighted is one of the best Zelda games I've ever played and appears to be criminally underappreciated. It's got fun Souls-like combat and a ridiculously stressful time limit gimmick (that can be disabled if that sounds miserable) and all sorts of sequence-breaking shenanigans for speedrunning.

The Forgotten City is just wonderful storytelling with Roman mythology and serious arguments about philosophy and ridiculous, over-the-top plot twists. I ripped through it.

Neither is very long, but they're both wonderful games, and y'all should consider them even though the current sale discounts aren't very deep.

This is the first time that I've heard that Obsidian is making a similar game to Disco Elysium.
Really looking forward to this. I don't expect their game to be too literally a clone of Disco Elysium (what game could lever be?) but anything that experiments with writing in the RPG genre is a-ok in my book.

Also wanted to ask something.

with the Game of the Year votes coming to an end soon, what are people’s Games of 2021. As in no restrictions, could have released at any year, can still be early access, DLC expansion.
Aside from Psychonauts 2 which is my actual game of the year, but also part of my games of 2021...

Mass Effect: Andromeda. Finally got around playing it this year and being a Mass Effect fan and having heard and read everything about it during and after launch about how "they killed Mass Effect", it really caught me by surprise how much I ended up liking it in the end.

LTTP game: AI: The Somnium Files

GOTY 2021: Fights in Tight Spaces

The former excels in story whereas the latter has great gameplay.

I got a question regarding the Yakuza games, since I'm trying to finish up Yakuza 0.

Kiwami is a remake of the first game, so is that game a bit more "explaining" of the setting and the story?
0 is fantastic, but throws a million characters at you, from different organizations and families, and I occasionally found it hard to keep track of allegiances, what family/organization Kiriyu belonged to / was thrown out of etc.

It seemed like the game really just expected you to immediately understand how everything was related.

I've played through all of the yakuza games except zero and I have no idea who any are! except the main ones.

I don't really remember most of the families either but kiwami is the first game so the settings I remember were much more basic and easier to follow, especially since it revolved mostly around Kiryu and Nishiki and the family they were in.

The year is almost ending so I thought about sharing my top 10 games I've played this year and as usual all of them were played on PC. -

1. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
2. Psychonauts 2
3. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
4. R-Type Final 2
5. Industria
6. Forza Horizon 5
7. Mail Mole
8. Olija
9. Aerial_Knights Never Yield
10. Garden Story

There was a lot of other games that I was interested in playing this year but time and money were big constraints.

I really really hate when games put ratings into their library banner. Store banner, sure, go ahead if you must. But I ALREADY BOUGHT YOUR GAME.

I'm now actually less likely Dungeon Encounters. Yes I hate it that much.
Exactly. I don't see the point of doing it.

Hopefully someone will post a proper banner to steamgriddb.

It's a service to everyone who bought the game. I know when I'm trying to decide what to play, my first thought is, "Huh, I wonder what score gamespew gave this? Anything less than 8/10 and I'm playing Fortnite instead."

Seriously though, the game's capsule didn't have this garbage at launch. The original can still be found here, if anyone wants it.

That was my first gamepad, actually. Remember how nice it felt going from that to the DS4.
Kathy Rain is great, recently replayed it when the DC version hit.
Great list otherwise too.

What's funny about this to me is how the recent AC games took inspiration from WItcher 3 (from what I gather, I haven't played them) and the thing that impressed me most with WItcher 3 was how much it respected my time. You could so quickly find an interesting quest, and experience some unique story bits, with essentially no filler. Sure, the overall actions that Geralt does are similar, but that's just his job of being a Witcher. The game always tries to make each quest unique and subvert expectations.
Witcher 3 so perfect that not even CDPR could make its lightning strike twice.

Dunno if this has been posted already, the Steam best sellers of 2021 were published by Valve:

as usual, by gross revenue, in Platinum – Gold – Silver – Bronze categories without numbers,

Also featured. best selling new games as well as early access graduations, most played games – and more.

Speaking of network speeds, for some reason my computer keeps connection to the 2.4 wifi and not 5 band wifi, it should be automatic but it isn't and I don't know how to force it?

Edit, never mind haha, for some reason fiddling with setting now everything jumped over to 5, so hopefully they stay there;

About the library art with superfluous iconography, I think the problem may be that it doubles as store-facing art in certain cases. Would be nice if these were separated entirely.

Speaking of Dungeon Encounters, I'd really like to play that based on what I read/heard. The price is kinda steep though. Maybe I'm spoiled by indies, but it seems like something I'd drop 15-20 eur on max.

Been mulling this one over and reading impressions and watching reviews is making it no clearer; would I like Death Stranding?

Admittedly only reason I’m interested is because it’s Kojima, and at first glance package delivery doesn’t look interesting.
And even many fans of the game admit not liking the story. So I admit I’m erring on no.

What complicates matters is the “if you don’t like it then wait until ~20 hours in” element. I don’t particularly want to do that, so with everything I’ve said, would I likely like it? Does whatever happens at “20 hours in” really change things?

I know it has a “love it/hate it” reception but the “love it” crowd seems much more pervasive and louder for some time now, and frequently calls it a GOTG

Played about 40 minutes of Nuclear Blaze and I am enjoying it so far. However it is hard (well for me).

There are minor irritations in there as well. I don't think the controls are quite as tight as they should be (although that could also be my old age reactions). Checkpointing is a bit skewed. After dying about 12 times trying to get past one part, then turning the electricity off I hit a checkpoint. Then promptly died. It started me at the checkpoint but the electricity was back on. This meant I had to take the long way around to put all the fires out.

Ultimately it is a puzzle platformer. Then main puzzles seem to be clearing the rooms of flames and hitting the exit. However there are complications. For example electricity will electrocute you if your water gets too close. Red doors will only open when a fire is completely out in the area. Some doors have a backdraft and you need to protect yourself. And so on.

There is also a story behind the fire you are trying to put out. You stumble on a secret facility while putting out a forest fire, as you progress it turns out that it appears to be experimenting with anomalis items (think SCP or Control).

However one of the best things is the granular difficulty controls. The game has a difficulty bar that slides up and down as you adjust the options. So you start with 0 lives (1 hit and you die) with the option of 1, 2 and unlimited. Or you can give your self a larger water tank. But it also allows you to make it more difficult by randomising how the flames work.

So far I haven't tweaked the settings (although it has been tempting). So lets see how far I can get.

Its not really a game to be picky with imo. If you play it then give it your full attention otherwise you won't appreciate how great it is.

While most games is about the adventure that will happen when you reach B from A, DS is about the adventure you have while getting from A to B.
