Its not.
What I had to say about it:

Its a good short game but its not more than that. Eurogamer putting it on #1 of their best games on 2021 was bizarre in my opinion.

edit: oh god you were talking about unpacking Elden Ring, not Unpacking the game, right? discard all that then :p
Ha. At first I was also thinking of Unpacking the game when I saw NarohDethan's post.

Nah, Souls games are hard. I've been gaming since the 80s. Souls games are hard, it's not a buzzword.

It's just that you enjoy the kind of challenge they present. They are not quite as bullshit and cheap as Hard mode in older games for sure ( but they do have their moments ) but they are hard games that take a lot of time and practise and relfexes.

You've been playing From Souls games for years now, of course they are going to be easy for you. You have bulit up the skills and muscle memory for them, you're a veteran. Many newcomers are going to find them very tough indeed.

I kind of see the point. When I originally played DS1 I was having a hard time until I reached the Gargoyle(s) boss. After dying an ungodly amount of times something clicked with me and since that point I've approached the games in a different way so it's hard for me to say if they're "hard" since I kind of know what to expect in that regard.

So far the game is okay. If anything it's been kind of slow. Maybe later on I will be blown away by it.

For some reason I'm able to see phantoms but when I touch bloodstains I don't see how they died for some reason.

Also the first enemy that you encounter is weird because I died but I don't see how I died. I guess a cut scene plays but I only hear audio.

This has been my experience as well.

Elden Ring really has some amazing artistry, visual and audio. I had been playing Horizon Forbidden West, but while technically proficient, the game's rarely trying to show you anything. And Elden Ring is filled with those visually striking scenes. I can't remember a time I ever saw such a striking contrast of visual mastery. And I like Horizon Forbidden West FWIW, but I've taken more screenshots in Elden Ring already...

Haven't had too much poor performance, but I did stop playing online pretty much immediately. I got a huge stutter really early on when playing online and I could kind of tell it was network related. It's generally smooth offline (but of course there are hitches). Smoother than say, FF7 Remake in DX12 or even Halo Infinite IMO.

I feel like it's definitely more forgiving than any Souls. Every Souls had jerk deaths and extremely difficult optional enemies / paths, even really early on. This one has a token one, but then walks it back to general safety. Of course I come in having beaten every one of those, so I know what to look for and how to behave by now. Of course I am still very early, and maybe they actually balanced this one a bit. Many Fromsoft games have a sudden difficulty drop. Bloodborne was easy after the first boss!

The core to me will be the exploration, just like any action adventure of its like.

I think I'm going to wait until I get a new GPU to play Elden Ring. I only played a little bit but seems like I can get a about 60 with either 1440p low or 1080p on medium (or even high). And neither of those are really acceptable to me.
Cries in GTX 1070. :minos_sad:

Also a chromatic aberration toggle would be nice, it didn't seem like any of the settings removed it even on low. So maybe by the time I play there will be one. 🤞

Also it's weird that, at least by default, you jump with the bottom face button. It's always been the confirm and interact button in their previous games so that's going to take a little to get used to I think.

Me on Elden Ring purchase.

GTX 1080 8G
i7-7700HQ
RAM: 16GB
1TB (SATA) 7200rpm HDD
1080p G-Sync

This is why I "hate" AAA.

Throw Dorfromantik, Wildermyth, Northern Journey, PowerWash Sim, Cloudpunk or any other rando indie in my face and I'm like, "Let's go!", smashing that Add to Cart button without a second thought.

On the other hand, present me with a new AAA that has questionable optimization and I just sit there stunlocked.

Thank you very much for playing "ELDEN RING" and for your feedback. We are currently experiencing some issues that are preventing the game from playing properly under some conditions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your patience.

Main items to be revised

  • Regarding the problem of the mouse being too sensitive in the PC version
    • We will be sending out a patch for this issue in the near future.
  • Regarding the problem of Easy Anti-Cheat failing to launch when the Steam account name is set to 2-byte characters.
    • We are aware of the cause of this issue and will be providing a patch in the near future.
  • Regarding the phenomenon of frame rate and other performance-related issues during gameplay
    • We will be constantly working to improve the game so that it can be played comfortably on various PC environments and platforms.
    • For the PC version, updating your graphics card drivers to the latest version may significantly improve performance.

We are also working on a few other bug fixes and performance improvements as needed. Please don’t hesitate to contact our support team if you encounter other issues.

Thank you for your continued support of ELDEN RING.

I'm so pumped for today's possible email from Valve that I keep doing nothing, just waiting in expectation to see how the launch is handled.
I'm basically a Metal Gear guard with the big red exclamation mark and the sound effect that goes with it.

I do and it's sad to see this happened, same deal as Routine it seems :(
Routine was one of the first games to get "greenlit", right? I think that's all I remember from it. I guess it was always vapourware.

Will we have a Deck thread ? We should have a Deck thread. While the topic fits this one, if there is too much Deck talk it could annoy the people that are not part of the first wave.
We should even have multiple Deck threads. Decks threads everywhere, Deck thread for you, for you, and for you.

Note that I'm talking Deck, Dick talks are not concerned. Please carry on.

I honestly think I have to change my plans and play through Forbidden West before continuing with ER. ER is so good Im afraid it will make FW feel worse. Plus, ER will take a large amount of my time.

You were the last person to reply to the deck thread :|
Bah, this is a pre-release Deck thread, not the same thing. The difference should jump at you. I mean, err... it's not the same title for starters. Huge point the title. Maybe a salivating OP about what you can do with your Deck. So much possibilities. Totally different things.
You plebian :shlooter:

I'm so hype that I just added 'FFVI - What's shading ?' edition to my wishlist.
...
Ok, no one posts. I'm activating crisis edit mode.

edit 1. We need to have a Synod to answer once and for all what's the meaning of the 'eyes' reaction.
edit 2. I can't even get drunk. I forgot to order wine. All my hopes remains on the Coca Zero. You can do it, little buddy !
edit 3. Another 'eyes' :anguished-face:
edit 4. This thing might emulate Astral Chains better than my PC.

"The things that were being done were super sketchy," Newell told Eurogamer. "And there was some illegal shit that was going on behind the scenes, and you're just like, yeah, you know, this is bad. You know. Blockchains as a technology are a great technology, that the ways in which has been utilised are currently are all pretty sketchy. And you sort of want to stay away from that.
