Me - We are near the end, boys, not too long to suffer !
Game - Here are five big dungeons with spongy as hell bosses, oh and have long cutscenes on the regular too.

Not that it's awful, the plot finally moved a little and it's playable. Just really the 'portable' game of the series.

Is there a starting area in ER? Everyone is talking about Margit as the first "big" boss, but I have yet to encounter her.

Totally depends. Some are impacted more than others it seems.
I get some stuttering like there's texture caching being processed and it's pretty much reproducable so i'm wondering if there's some rendering issue in certain areas when looking at certain points but it always settles back to 60 so i dunno.

Had no crashes at all, framerate pretty solid at 60 with dips to high 50s for me.
I have tweaked the graphics settings but there's definitely optimisation and patching needed.

2700x, OG RTX 2070 Not Super, SSD, 32gb ram, 2560x1440.
I'm offline with telemetry declined and not logged in to the game servers.
I have just a lightly better setup than you with a 3700x and 2070S at 1440p as well so is is good to hear that it's not a total shitfest.

If you want to find the bosses of an area, just follow the Guidance of Grace (lightrays at grace sites / bonfires).

I’m playing as a bandit, I always play rogue in RPGs, but it might not be the best choice in this game haha. There are no locks to pick!
Ouch. That's probably the hardest class to start with, given heavy investment in Arcane, which is.... not very useful unless you specialise in some niche spells and stuff, little of which exists in the starting areas, I wager.

I think bleed scales with it, so seek stuff with bleed effects, like the Reduvia dagger.
Oh, what class did you choose? I apparently chose one of the "easy mode" classes as an Astrologer so i have short sword and magic stick.
I'll possibly play for a while longer then restart as something different but similar. Not sure yet.
Astrologer here too.

I assume you've met Sellen, the magic trainer? PSA: whatever you do, DO NOT ATTACK a Sellen lookalike that is being tortured in a cellar, beneath a poisonous swamp. It turns out, it IS Sellen herself, and she will disappear from her usual location if she is aggroed. I tried to put the poor woman out of her misery, her mind was gone .... and now I had to find a new spell trainer. It is probably a bug, as it makes no sense.

Lmao there are some trapped chests that transport you to another point in the map, had it happens already two times.

The first one I got transported to some mine, the enemies were hitting very hard so I just ran until I found a site of grace, the other time I got transported to the far north really close to the Erdtree!

It still was offline the last time I checked :/. If you value the multiplayer part of the series it's better to jump into Elden Ring.
Oh I value the online as far as the potential help is concerned. Never was too bothered by invaders but would go offline quick if it happened.
My point was just that if I am stuck on some DS3 boss right now, there won’t be a lot of solutions, barring cheats.

Not gonna lie, was looking at some €2000 graphic cards yesterday (3080Ti), thinking about buying one to play ER. Then also looked at €1300 (3070Ti) and then went down to €930 (3060Ti).
Trying to convince myself that 3080Ti isn't going to become obsolete in a few years, so it's totally worth the current asking price and you won't regret it...

Dangerous to look at GPU's at a time when your most anticipated game has just come out.

Invasion in ER works in a different way, you are only open to invasions while playing in co-op.

Spent nearly 6 hours in Limgrave and accidentally discovered a bit of Caedir and taken down Margit, gonna continue north now.

I'm playing Elden Ring on a 299€ console and having a good time!
Isn't the framerate pretty shit on it? 30 fps? After Bb, I really can't play a Souls game on console.

glorious answer :coffee-blob:
Cyberpunk novels like William Gibson's Neuromancer and Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash are often cited as inspirations for the metaverse, but tech moguls have been trying to recreate those books' visions of cyberspace for years now while conveniently ignoring their dystopian themes. It's capital M capital P Missing the Point, and Newell gave me a bit of reassurance on that front from an unexpected source: one of the actual authors.
"I'm friends with Neal Stephenson, and every time we get together, he just puts his face in his hands. So it's like, 'okay, what metaverse story is driving you insane today?'"

Man the starting area is gigantic. You can spend so many hours exploring and not really progressing your character and stuff. But it's still fun and it all feels hand crafted and there's cool stuff or boss doors or items or npcs or whatever beyond enemies/animals pretty much everywhere. I started playing at the same time as a friend and we went totally different directions and kept confusing each other when talking about say the "first" vendor cos he first went to the one at the coast so were like wtf are you talking about this or that isn't there, catacombs beyond the vnedor, what, etc. Then we co-oped the catacombs boss together just to check out what that stuff is like. Then again solod explored and found a bunch of different exits, took down a caravan and so on and so forth. My friend somehow managed to kill the golden mounted knight himself, I haven't as he one shots me but discovered all kinds of stuff exploring the areas, from the coast to the lake to whatever, both of us still not progressing where the game wants us to go past the site of grace you get the level up capability and horse at, only this little starting bottom right corner of the map. GOAT game. People are talking about beating it in 13-20 hours and I'll be in the starting region by then still, lol.

If anyone is playing Elden Ring with mouse and keyboard, how do you "Might Shot" without shooting your secondary arrow. I want to use my regular arrows and not my fire ones.

I've played 7 hours or so of Elden Ring now, 75% of that in co-op.

The only issue I've run into is that one of my friends is disconnected from coop sessions from time to time, but that seems like an internet connectivity issue. No performance problems to speak of, and no crashes.
Update: 15.5 hours in now, had one crash/freeze. Interestingly, exact same for both people I play with in coop (1 crash each so far, at similar amounts of time played, with the same observable crash behaviour).

We need an Elden Ring OT people. I caved and would like a discussion hub.
And I unsurprisingly have the slowdowns from hell.
And fuck Miyazaki, I don’t understand a thing.
My character was a corpse in the intro ? Then I wake up in a chapel ? Die again to some horror and wake up in a cave ?
And what is the land inbetween for my character, some tote normal part of the world or something new ? Some limbo as the name would imply ?

Guess what... very little of that will be explained directly in the story.
From Soft are like Valve and love environmental storytelling only From Soft ramp it up to 211!

You'll get enough of an idea from talking to the NPCs in your path at critical map points but a LOT of other lore and story and background will come from the environment, "why is this here? it doesn't belong.", from the descriptions on items and seemingly throwaway lines from NPCs around the world.

There will be no in-depth This then This then This... It's why Souls Lore videos are still made and rewatched a ton of times. If you want to just go around chopping up stuff aka The Crunch then the Lore aka The Fluff rarely gets in your way. If you want Lore then start exploring and reading and listening and making notes.

This ain't a Kojima game.

We will get stable frame times if we reach those numbers.

Miyazaki told me so himself.

I'm now at the first real boss.

In my first try I was able to get their HP to about 60% not bad. But I have not been able to get it that low since

I've had 2 crashes so far, but both were when I had a friend watching me through Steam's streaming. I haven't had any issues other than when doing that.

Elden Ring is giving me major Dark Souls II vibes. There's something about the art direction in Limgrave that's super reminiscent of that one in particular. There's also the stonesword keys that basically serve the same function as Pharros lockstones and I can't remember if there was an equivalent item in Dark Souls III. I kinda want to say there wasn't? Makes me wonder... actually I just looked it up and one of the directors from Dark Souls II is listed as co-director for Elden Ring lol.

Although, I have to say, it would be funny as fuck if it turned out that FROM just started slapping Miyazaki's name on everything after Dark Souls II just to shut down all that B-team nonsense lmao.

Also, the game kinda ran like shit for me thursday night but it's been way better since friday. I updated to the latest driver and moved the game to my newest SSD (and turned on "gaming mode" in WD Dashboard, whatever the hell that actually does lol) but I assume a big part of it is down to having explored a lot and not encountering assets for the first time as much anymore. I'm running the game at 1080p now with everything maxed out and the framerate is close enough to 60fps most of the time that I'm okay with the performance.

I kinda wish the game had a proper render scale setting though because the resolution discrepancy with my desktop makes it kind of annoying to alt-tab out or even just having stuff open on my second monitor. Even just launching the game is slower somehow and earlier it kept hanging and only launched after restarting my PC. Is there any way to force, like.... reverse downsamspling? Like, having the internal rendering resolution be 1080p but still running the game at 1440p?

I turned that Margit fool into a Tarnished, and then found his homey up the road and made some mincemeat out of him. Let me tell y'all. Summon those Godrick Knights. Or even better the NPC summon and then maybe the jellyfish or the knights. Both are pretty good. Also BLEED. BLEED THEM DRY. I got so much milage out of a couple good bleed weapons early on. Though obviously you want to find some non-bleed weapons for the stuff that ends up immune.

The really bonkers thing is that in the area right after you get out of the tutorial dungeon there are probably 6? maybe 8? accessible bosses (enemies with names and big health bars). You can do any of them in any order, though the story very clearly has Margit and that castle as the big place to go. You can totally ignore it though and get lost in some poison swamps or hell areas if you want.

Demon and Dark Souls 1-2 were far less impenetrable ! I will grant you Bloodborne. I had to go read an explanation after finishing the game.
This has a surface of mythology like the formers but far more convoluted and potentially more.
I mean, just for fun, maybe it’s a slow Battle Royale :thinking-face:

At first online wasn't working on Elden Ring but now that it is I get to see messages and they have already shown me two chests!:D
Do you still have the issue with no ghost upon touching blood ? I had the same in the intro yesterday, didn’t check if it persists upon entering the world proper, though.
