yes as i said the story was basically the origin plus charcter introspection ... loosely based on Lemire’s comic run ... so lack of "moon knighting" makes sense. and yeah Oscar Isaac was phenomenal

also love how they turned Layla into genderbent version fo Scarlet Scarab

Off to see Dr Strange tonight. First time in about 3 years for me since I last went the cinema. Only thing that has soured me on it is the price of the tickets.

But looking forward to it. I loved the stuff they have done with Loki, What If and No Way Home.

Absolutely loved Moon Knight so far and will see how it all ends tomorrow.

As a follow on to the previous post, just thought I would post some impressions and think out loud.

I have always preferred marvel comics. There may be a bit of a bias in my impressions of these films.

So, going in to Multiverse of Madness, I was already a fan of the Dr Strange movie. I loved the fact we where starting to get the more supernatural side of the Marvel into the films (as an aside, please give me a decent Ghost Rider on the big screen). I loved the inception style effects, I loved the fact that Dr Strange grew as a character but was still a Arogant Jerk, just not a selfish Arogant Jerk. Although I thought the interpertation was off in No Way Home and that is only compounded after seeing this film.

  1. Anyway, that means I was really looking forward to this film.

As another user posted above this is most definately Marvel does the Evil Dead. And I loved it for it. I would go so far to say, after this, Marvel should let Sam Raimi make a Marvel Zombies movie. Like immediately. I have been a fan of Raimi's films since hunting down the Evil Dead during the whole video nasties debacle in the UK.

The films moves at a fair pace, the exposition parts don't come across as info dumps and the cameos where great. However first spoilers so be warned
the speed they where all dispatched was a bit disappointing. I honestly believe 2 of the cameos where designed as a preview/hint to future movies. Just a minot gripe. The cameos where great and I am looking forward to seeing FF & X-Men in the MCU.

This may sound contradictory but I also found the main villain to be surprising yet not surprising at the same time. Contradictory I know. It makes sense if you have kept up to date on all things MCU but I liked their character a lot and the actor as well. Spoilers again but more on themes this time and one of my disappointments in the film my main problem is that Holywood has gone down the route of grief and madness leading to evil. I know it has always been a part of this character but it is still a shame to see this trope/stereotype again.

For the most part the special effects where top notch. I will say there wasn't enough mirror universe/dark dimension stuff in this film. However that is more than made up for by the Multiverse stuff. I think between this and No Way Home they both owe a big debt to the visual styles of Into The Spiderverse. My only gripe was that Zombie Strange looked a bit rubbery and too close to CGI (cloak was amazing though).

Acting was great, Xochitl Gomez was great in it and a bit of a revelation for me. Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect for Strange. Again Benedict Wong is always great in every cameo in the MCU and always great to get more screen time. Rachel Adams gets a lot more to work with this time around. As mentioned above I love the villians actor already.

Some final thoughts and problems I have going forward.

  • I said it above but I will say it again. Marvel need to let Sam Raimi make a Marvel Zombies film.
  • Great film for me, not to the heights of IInfinity War/End Game but still good (bias for the supernatural stuff & Sam Raimi?!?!)
  • Film tickets are fucking expensive now.
  • Great cameo at the end.
So this film leads me to one misgiving about the MCU going forward. They are starting to lean a bit too heavily on past knowledge and having seen a lot of the MCU movies & TV series. Going in to this I would recommend people have seen Loki, What If, No Way Home (funnily enough you don't really need to have seen the first film) and a couple of other bits to get to grips with character motiviations, what the multiverse is and why the multivers suddenly is. a thing. It's just starting to get a bit too much.

One of the main reasons I dropped comics from the big 2 back around the early 2000's was the big cross over event where you "HAD" to read all the tie ins and you could never be sure which ones where the critical ones. So it was easier to stop reading them altogether.

To see how bad it got have a look at the tie in list for Dark Night Metal.

To a certain extent I have started to appreciate the likes of Ant-Man, Guardians, Moon Knight and so on as they are less tied into the MCU and have so far been their own thing.

Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Will be watching the last episode of Moon Knight later, so expect another wall of text...

Wait, you're watching everything out of order?
I've watched almost everything from Marvel out of order. I watched the first two Iron Man, all of Captain America, all the Avengers, one of Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.

Haha alright, I guess they can’t be little standalone but there has to be things that are little confusing. But I’m not here to tell anyone how to enjoy things.:)

Maaan, the wait for something new after being treated to both Moon Knight and Raimi-Strange are hard :D I love Ms. Marvel in comic form, but the teasers so far really look somewhat.. I don't think "boring", really, but a lot more like "the usual" MCU stuff, if that makes sense. A lot of static cameras and presumably little surprises or twists to another origin story.

Either way, it's still so far away -.-

Just caught up on the trailers and while I loved the She-Hulk trailer (absolutely loved the old comics from the John Byrne era) is it me or is there something off with the effects. Not that it will stop me watching it though.

Got to say though the Ms. Marvel series looks great. That has gone to one of my most anticipated shows for the year, although that doesn't mean too much as I tend to not watch too much TV.

Thor, I was in from the moment Taika Waititi was anounced to be carrying on. Now do I rewatch What We Do In The Shadows or Wellington Paranormal again. Or both...

the model is fine but i feel the rest of the CG is unfinished ... resulting in weird case og uncaney valley ... will probably be fine by the time it launches

what i noticed is people online expected her to be superbuff and are now ranting she is not bodybuilder :upside-down-face:

This is why I stopped reading comments from online fans on social media. I find it a lot easier just to enjoy stuff that way.

While I would love to see her closer to her current iteration, which is a bit buffer than this, however I am just happy we are getting series like this, Ms Marvel and Hawkeye. Even after Endgame these are characters I never thought I would see on TV.

I would say, I think I am beginning to enjoy the Disney+ stuff more than the movies.

seems like they are going for the Byrne run with the shulk looks

and yes i am having a blast with these shows focusing on less known and weirder chars

Similarly with Ms Marvel .... people rant all the way bout the change in powers ... but like to me the characterization still fits and thats what matters, makes no sense to go with Inhumans here when Ihnumans were ABC's meagmess , better left to rot :face-savouring-delicious-food:
And the change was made with both original creators of the character being involved ... so whats theissue

Yeah, they need to rebuild peoples confidence in the Inhumans. Plus you avoid the whole mess of trying to explain the terrigen mists to people, weighing down the show. As long as they hit those important beats, the caring family, the super hero fan girl and so on.

Next up give me Fin Fang Foom, or Elsa Bloodstone or next wave agents of hate (shame warren ellis turned out to be a dick).

Hopefully they stick to Colleen Wing as the Iron Fist and not bring Finn Jones back. It's a shame as well, after what they did with Moon Knight and Shang Chi I would have loved them to do The Immortal Iron Fist run with all the different gods involved in that.

Oh and bring back The Punisher.

I finally watched Dr Strange 2 today! It was quite fun but I don't think I have the stomach anymore for Sam Raimi's cheese. It was a bit too much for me at times.

Taika Waititi unchained and Ms Marvel Ep5 were both a blast
I quite liked Ms Marvel but I'll probably wait for Disney + for Live and Thunder as covid cases are on the rise again. Very excited for it, Taika unchained sounds extremely promising.

The last episode of Ms Marvel finally dropped the first mention of

mutants, with an x-men music stinger and everything. Exciting times ahead!

what a blast of an episode

and yup they actually fucking did it

Also love the irony with how Kamala Khan in the comics was kinda part of Ike Perlmutter's push to replace mutants with Inhumans

Now that I have thought about it a bit more, I'm not sure about the new Thor movie, while I like it for the most part and even loved some parts, the thing that kind of bothers me is that Thor himself feels like a parody too often, I don't mind his goofy moments but if felt it just became too much a few times. But as I said overall I liked it.
