The Thaumaturge

The Thaumaturge is an isometric, story-rich RPG with a unique take on turn-based combat, character development features, and investigation mechanics, facing you with morally ambiguous choices – set in a world teeming with mysterious powers and strange ethereal beings called salutors.

The year is 1905. Warsaw lives under the yoke of imperial Russian tsardom. Its inhabitants constitute a diverse group of different ancestries, views, and beliefs with often conflicting interests: Russian soldiers, Jewish merchants, Polish townspeople, and more. Despite the circumstances, the city is a buzzing metropolis, where one can attend a breathtaking party with the high society, and later get robbed in one of the dark alleys of the Praga district. A city of great hopes and dreams on one hand and dark desires on the other.

A thaumaturge bears both a gift and a burden at the same time. This parallel holds true for Wiktor Szulski, the game’s titular protagonist, who is drawn back to the tumultuous streets of 20th-century Warsaw by family matters. The gift of thaumaturgy is intertwined with family legacy, passed down through one's ancestors. This mystical inheritance significantly shapes Wiktor’s life journey tied around a pursuit of unearthly entities and their hosts. As only a thaumaturge can tame these ethereal entities - known to a select few as salutors - utilizing their mystical abilities to discover secrets hidden within the human soul and speak to the Darkness, no one understands quite like Wiktor how everyone suffers their own demons.

Outcast: A New Beginning

20 years after the award-winning action adventure hit, Outcast, pioneered the genre of non-linear open-world games, the long-awaited sequel sees Cutter Slade return to the spectacular alien world of Adelpha. Resurrected by the almighty Yods, he has returned to find the Talans enslaved, the world stripped of its natural resources, and his own past intertwining with the invading robot forces. It's up to him to go on a mission and save the planet again.

The original team behind Outcast 1 has reunited to create this fascinating world, full of dangerous creatures and home to the Talan people – an ancient culture whose fate has become inextricably linked with earth since the events of the first game. You play as Cutter Slade, ex-Navy SEAL, sporting the same dry wit he had back in the 90s – however, the world around him has changed and eventually, so will he.

Contra: Operation Galuga

A new entry in the legendary Contra series is here! Contra: Operation Galuga is a thorough reimagining of the classic run-'n'-gun action game from the '80s, featuring modern graphics and sound, new stages, new enemies and bosses, new play mechanics, an updated weapons system, and explosive co-op combat for up to two players in Story Mode or four players in Arcade Mode!

When the Red Falcon terrorist group takes over the Galuga Islands off the coast of New Zealand, elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean springs into action, initiating an all-out war in which the fate of mankind hangs in the balance!

Run, jump, and shoot your way through eight levels using a devastating arsenal - including the spread shot, laser, and homing missiles - now with stackable upgrades and awesome Overload abilities! The intense action is customizable with three difficulty settings plus a variety of additional challenge options. The true Contra legacy begins now!

The Alto Collection

Join Alto and friends as they set out on the adventure of a lifetime.

Race down alpine slopes, over windswept dunes, through ancient woodlands and the long forgotten ruins of both critically acclaimed titles: Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey.

Along the way you’ll pull off daring backflips, grind over rooftops and leap over vast chasms as you journey to discover what mysteries lie beyond the horizon.

I looked up upcoming (not already in early access like Gloomwood) imm sims I know of for a forum reply so here they are: Peripeteia, Core Decay, Neet, Selaco, Judas, DataJack 2020, Safe Not Safe, Final Defect, Neverlooted Dungeon, The Muller-Powell Principle, Sorceress, Retrospace, Heartrender, Serpens, Streets of Rogue 2, Psycho Patrol R, Monomyth, Corpus Edax, Memories of a Spy, Lonely Space, Imprisoned Hyperion 2, ETOS, Skin Deep, Spectra, Athanasia.

Most have a Steam page. Not in any particular order so if you look up a string of crappy looking ones that doesn't mean all the rest are the same :p

Was checking a video about the recently announced SAO game, kinda getting PSO2 vibes from it, action online rpg with good old dungeon crawling, and a different take at a multi-party system than PSO2's, hmm....

The co-op dungeons, from what they showed in a dev video, dungeons have 5 parties of 4 players, each party starts in different locations, but as they progress they end up meeting throughout the dungeon and in the end all 20 players tackle the final boss together.

SAO games don't have the best track record, but if this one ends up being decent, it could maybe scratch the PSO2 itch for me.

There's gonna be a closed beta, registrations are available currently for a few days, PC version is included in the beta,

Thanks for the new thread Mor!

Nothing from the highlighted games this month for me. I'm still firmly buried under the avalanche of Japanese games from February.

I did pick this up just now, as on the surface it looks like a game that's tailor made for me (highlighted in the last week of the Feb Steam thread)! Sounds like a very appealing method to learn basic Japanese terms in a visual way.

PS. Finally got out from under Like A Dragon 8 after 77 hours. The plot is a complete car crash (its a "spotfest" - there are many story points and events that are great in a vacuum, but arent strung together in a coherent way) but the character interactions are as fun as ever, and there's a very healthy amount of gameplay variety. Still worth the money overall.

March! It’s both my birthday and release of Dragons Dogma 2! :partyblob:

1.0 is out already.

The devs have been working on the for 13 years, and the game was in early access for 9 years!
That sounds amazingly passionate. While game might not be for me I still bought it just to see the result of all that passion.:)

As always Mor is killing it.

Probably not much for me. Gonna keep on in Infinite Wealth (playing games, it's weird I know) and sides of Balatro and Helldivers when I can get friends to join.

Will probably occupy the whole month with that lol.

These release overviews in OP are awesome.

Although it reminds me how many games come out, way too many to be able to keep up with.
Just this month I am interested in Horizon 2, Alone in the Dark, Outcast 2 and Thaumaturge. But I also have like 15 already purchased games on my playlist, so buying any of those games full priced just doesn't seem smart. Right now I am playing Disco Elysium (great!), then I have Remnant 2, Hitman Trilogy, Wrath of the Righteous, System Shock Remake..

I feel like this industry has grown too large without the customer base keeping up. Hence too many (even good) games that do not sell enough and thus the layoffs.

In case you haven't bought it already, GMG has Outcast available with a 30% discount. I mention it because 30% pre-order discounts are rare these days. I loved the first Outcast back in the day and I was interested in this new game but all the footage I've seen makes it seem like a by the numbers, mid tier budget open world game. Not that that's a bad thing, but I'm not seeing the hook of the game just yet. And it's releasing right next to Dragon's Dogma 2 that seems a lot more interesting. Can't decide whether to get Outcast at this decent discount or wait or just skip it.

Hmmm... new Mor thread smell. So good
GFL2 player spotted

Give me global godamnit!

Also details from the release date announcement:
Our fans may have noticed numerous new CG scenes in the latest trailer. By fully exploring storyline details, character developments, and subplots, we aim to transform the 300,000+ words from mere digits into a rich, immersive narrative experience.

As previously revealed, Jefuty's mysterious "Visual Leap" ability opens up a world of possibilities for the story, with over 60 mainline stages across different story branches. In addition to upgraded combat mechanics from the original, we've integrated terrain effects, formidable bosses, and special mechanics to offer a diverse gaming experience, estimated to provide around 100 hours of gameplay.
That's a lot of content.
