They knew about it. They were just not allowed to talk about it. Review guides often forbid reviewers from talking about certain things. Stuff like 'don't talk about the story after this point' or 'don't talk about locations after the first act' or 'don't share screenshots beyond this point in the game'. Obviously if a reviewer defies these instructions then they will never get early review copies in the future.
Sure, review guides blocking talks about story etc is common but I don't think I've ever heard about an NDA on MTX info. Do you know they were blocked for certain or just assuming that to be the case?

I finally ordered my Steam Deck. (OLED) I'm beyond excited. Gonna be my MVP come Summertime I just know it, sometimes the ol' 3070 just throws out so much heat it warms the whole room up. Which is great in Winter and Fall. Spring and Summer not so much.

I've been saving up a little bit each week since OLED dropped. Not every week was feasible to save, but I made it finally. I hope shipping doesn't take too long. 🙏

  • Those are inconsequential MTX, just like in a million other games.
I'm tired of seeing this argument getting thrown around whenever there's mtx. It's not inconsequential otherwise it wouldn't exist.
They create the game, they create the limitations, the drop tables, the economy, etc. If they didn't want you to spend just a little bit more it wouldn't be there and the game wouldn't be balanced the way it is right now. The inconveniences are there for a reason and it is to annoy the player to the point of compliance, and it works remarkably well otherwise these things would have died a long time ago.

They must be really bad at what they do for those MTX to be so useless. Or maybe they are just what they appear to be, shortcuts.

That the slope is there and could be abused is another matter entirely.

This is possibly true sometimes but this isn't the case with Dragon's Dogma. The creator of the game (the first one and the sequel) has been clear that he values the journey of making the players walk through and around the spaces. He talked about how fast travel prevents the kind of open world exploration that he wants. The kind of thing where you walk into the woods and fall into a big fight with ogres or whatever. So I get that the MTX is bad, cause it is. Especially since all the items involved here are available for no money in the game. The items are limited, by design. And were limited by design in the first game that had no MTX at all.

Just Capcom being scummy and making an MTX for people that want to skip time. I don't like them, but it also doesn't impact me because getting the items in game is meant to be annoying and expensive and that's part of the game.

Monster Hunter 6 is coming. That is going to be Capcom's biggest launch ever and I'm predicting it'll push a million peak CCU.

And here's a hot take; I believe Monster Hunter matches or is approaching the popularity of Souls on PC.

You cannot activate a key with a VPN. You'll have to change your Steam store region to get the key to work.
Ah, I'm fucked then. IDK what region this key is, it's meant to be Europe and UK but it clearly isn't UK

Damn, bloated open world Nioh is… tempting. 500 euros is a big price hike, even by koei tecmo standards, though.

The original release of the first game had this sort of MTX actually and it was much much worse than what DD2 is doing.

I'm impressed with Forbidden West on my aging PC. Before getting the new drivers even the title screen was 12 fps but afterward with medium settings I got 50-60 fps with dips to 45 in game so I went high, it hovered around 40, I locked it to 30 and it seems like it'll be able to maintain that. I hope DD2 does similarly.

My favorite part of the dd2 fiasco are the people jumping in front of the train for capcom "correcting misinformation". The billion dollar company doesn't require your assistance.

We shoudl be encouraging more misinformation here. Anything to hurt these companies who have been getting away with this mtx nonsense for 15 years now. Fight as dirty as humanly possible. Make them panic and make their stocks go down. Should people have reacted this way with DMC V and RE4? Yeah they should have but that's not an excuse to just never care at all. It's never too late to start demanding better.

So I got Dragon's Dogma 2 and Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery and they're both sitting at mixed reviews. It seems like I'm great at picking out games so if anyone wants any game recommendations let me know.

Anyways my 2 cents on DD2 MTX. I feel like it's overblown and it's just the internet piling on with outrage because DD2 is the next thing to hate. Doesn't help that it's fueled by statements like "If you want to change your character's appearance you have to pay $1.99" implying it's only a MTX deal when you can change your appearance by buying an item in-game. It's also not even something that you can buy multiple times since it's DLC and the value of buying it is so low you might as well get it normally in-game.

tbh I'm just very annoyed at the whole misinformation and outrage that's going around regarding DD2's MTX because it's a pretty fun game and you can ignore the MTX. That said it's a good thing that people are getting mad about MTX. Maybe I've been conditioned from gachas to expect worse.

Also Reverse Collapse has it's own outrage as well because of something that happened in GFL2. One of the female gacha characters has an interaction with a NPC male character and that did not go down well with the Chinese community. It's dumb but that's a whole other thread to unravel.

Enough annoyed posting. Time for me to go have fun playing games.

For Reverse Collapse, check the reviews with over 2 hours playtime: 92% positive.

Also give this discussion thread a read. That's enough Internet for today.
I have seen a lot of confusion here so I will do my best to explain. Basically these developers made a game where one of the characters were talking to another male character. She even had worn a bracelet that had a lightning bolt symbol. This character's name in Chinese is lightning bolt basically. You can piece together that they may be something going on between them. Now, how would you feel if your love was talking to another man or wearing his accessories? It would hurt, a lot. So I hope this clears it up for some people and they can understand why so many Chinese gamers are hurting right now. I support my fellow gamers and I hope we can stand united on this front. It's not okay to NTR people without their consent. For some of us, fiction is our reality. I have tried for many years to get a partner and I fail, but through Girls Frontline I found love and happiness. These devs destroyed my happiness and that of my foreign friends. Does that clairfy? Thank you and be civil and kind to all please.

In my opinion, spreading misinformation is always wrong, when there are proper reasons to be upset, be upset for those reasons, no need to make up lies (I'm including these mtx as a reason to be upset about the game, I'm just against stuff that isn't true, like people that say that the items are paid only items, for example).

So a question for all the Anime/VN fans. Probably going to be a bit open ended.

What is the best/easiest way to get into the Fate series? I know there are a few anime series and VN's but as I understand it not all the VN's are easily accessible at this moment of time (but that situation is improving). Is Fate Grand Order worth looking at? I believe this covers some of the ealy storylines.

Or is it a mish mash of watching some anime, playing some VN's and so on.

Most Fate works are self-contained stories and the only knowledge you need to delve into them is that

1) the summoning system generally summons mythological or historical figures
2) they are bound to a Master

A lot of people that approach this franchise pidgeonhole themselves into thinking that they ABSOLUTELY NEED to read all the previously released stuff in order to play/read THAT ONE piece of fiction they're interested in which usually ends up in burning them out.
Sure there are references in the various stories but those are usually minor callbacks and not really vital to the plot of what you're reading/playing, most people online make them seem way bigger than what they are.

FGO is a good starting point as it was exactly that for most people, generally FGO is more of a hub for Type-Moon things nowadays.
The only thing that you should know is that those works use a lot the "chuuni trope" of tossing jargon at you that they'll explain later in the story, it's a narrative element of most chuuni works since as you usually see things from the PoV of a complete upstart that knows nothing and it's intended to make you feel lost at the beginning.
This obviously exacerbates the behaviour I described before.

if you feel like starting with another Fate work though then do so, or if you wanna start with Tsukihime, Samurai Renmant or Witch on the Holy Night that's fine too.

Microtransactions in singleplayer games will always be a shit thing that is impossible to defend. Even with most multiplayer games I think its horrible but stuff like battle passes at least have benefits and can greatly extend the life of games.

But yea it will sting more and more in the coming years because a lot of games are now 70$. At some point you have to ask how much is enough for these publishers.

I swear it feels like ever since Tim Sweeney promised cheaper games for consumers with his stupid 2018 EGS 12% bs.....the games only got more n more expensive. Maybe some day we will see this trickle down gaming economics in effect.

I don't agree at all that misinformation is cool as long as you fight the good fight. It's incredibly nihilistic, and frankly more suited to an edgy teen than a grown up adult. You are basically weaponizing people's lack of knowledge to reach your goal. I genuinely can't put a polite name on that.
No one is defending Dragon's Dogma 2 having MTX by the way. That people find MTX distasteful is beside the point, and frankly who loves them ? But call these scummy practices out for what they do, not whatever imaginary thing you dreamed up or a trashy journo who can't be arsed to RTFM came up with to farm clicks.

I hate the guy as much as any other human being with a functioning brain but this price hike has nothing to do with him. Don't inflate his ego even more please. This is just greed and trying to please those poor investors in every quarterly meeting, it's that simple, and since the customer base is basically stagnant they need to squeeze more out of the ones they already have.

I'm not a conspiracy type of person or wtvr...

But you have to admit there was a strong internet campaign back in 2018/19 to push gaming discussions into making gaming community feel guilty about where their money goes. And all the percentage cut bs. There was a lot of corporate misinformation going around. All of that was followed by the pandemic, inflation, interest rates and that was all followed with record setting profits/revenue for the gaming industry. And now we are all left with 70$ games, layoffs, long dev time, consolidation, etc + a lot of other anticonsumer doom n gloom bs.

Its almost like the big gaming companies tried their hardest to squeeze every last bit of $$$ from each other before things started going south.

Sometimes these weird domino pieces really fall in place. The timing can look suspicious. Sweeney is just one domino piece.

Again not to be a conspiracy person...just saying.

___

Also I agree gaming community doesn't need to be spreading around misinformation. But Derrick does have a point about the infractions these gaming companies have accumulated over the years. Gamers have goldfish memory and they quickly forgive/forget but that doesn't mean there should be some statute of limitations for all the stuff that goes on for generations now. Gaming community needs to continue being vocal about it and remind each other about all the things that have been happening.

Not that any of this matters as even the worst offenders like Blizzard/Ubisoft/EA continue getting away with it with every big new game launch. Capcom still has a longs way to go before they reach that territory.

Oh, for sure. If we are shitting on bad practices and scummy MTX, be my guest. A quick look at past Capcom games MTX is... telling.
Sega too, can go fuck themselves with the last few Like a Dragon. And then that's without even taking a look at Activision etc.

Dragon's Dogma 2 frame generation mod for RTX 20xx/30xx

I'm getting 90fps in town with a 3070 and Ryzen 5 3600
If you don't mind ghosting that is, but I'll take that instead of 30fps
Pretty amazing how modern tech like frame generation can work incredibly well in situations where the CPU would otherwise never be able to deliver such performance. Of course it comes at the cost of latency and potential visual artefacts, but just having that option alone is pretty amazing.
