Apple backed off. EGS mobile will launch soon. I'm not expecting much as Fortnite on mobile was never a huge deal and the only way I can see it being a game changer is if they convince someone like Mihoyo to pull their games from the App Store which is extremely unlikely.

I know they have a mobile version of Fall Guys planned, but Stumble Guys already ate FG's lunch (kind of like how Fortnite ate PUBG's lunch).

Another Epic published game coming to Steam (the first being RAILGRADE). Looks like it released on EGS last March:
Yes, in both cases they released on Steam as self-published titles. You can bet if AW makes it to Steam, it will likely end up in a similar way.

Yeah hopefully Remedy got the same deal where they can eventually self publish Alan Wake 2 on other PC storefronts if they want to. Given Alan Wake 2 is much higher profile than Touch Type Tale or RAILGRADE it doesn't seem impossible to me they have a different contract with Epic but who knows.

For what it worth, neither Remedy nor Epic could confirm a full exclusive based on different interviews.

Suicide Squad is going to be a promotional game for Prime Day. I thought it would be an EGS freebie by winter sale 2025, but I'm going to bump that up to this year's winter sale.
you can bet they will put it on Humble Bundle too at some point

Seems like epic games have started their summer sale and they dont have coupons or rewards this time.
I imagine it’s not a very epic sale.
Epic only ever did coupons for the Mega sale and holiday sale, but last year's summer sale did have boosted rewards. They're shying away from burning money on promotions.

From the outside, it seems like the PC store has taken a backseat to the mobile store.
Yeah I imagine Tim is way more interested in his shiny new toy than his old toy no one wanted to play with.

I can't wait for some of my mobile apps being pulled out of the Play Store because Epic paid the devs to do so.
Epic doesn't have that kind of money. Mobile dwarfs PC (and console) and no big players are leaving Google Play and the App Store for a tiny startup (that is only available in one region for iOS). At best they will be able to convince the big players to put their game on EGS mobile in addition to the main app stores.

Damn, the summer sale made a big splash, everyone is talking about it everywhere.
Maybe they should have made an anime girl mascot instead of "graphic design is my passion".

We are fast approaching a quantum leap in Epic's efforts to bring our games to players on mobile devices. Fortnite will be returning to iOS in the European Union soon, and the Epic Games Store will be coming to Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union bringing all developers great terms: a store fee of 12% for payments we process, and 0% on third party payments.

But that's not all! Today, we're announcing that Epic also plans to bring our own mobile games including Fortnite to other mobile stores that give all developers a great deal. And, we will be ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games.

Here's why we're doing this: We've long been advocating for the rights of stores to exist and compete fairly on iOS and Android, and progress is spreading across the globe, in the form of Europe's DMA, similar laws in the UK and Japan, regulatory investigations around the world, and victory in the Epic v Google litigation in the US. As operators of the Epic Games Store, we'll take advantage of this opportunity to bring all developers a great deal on our store. And as game developers ourselves, we want to do everything we can to support other stores that strive to bring all developers their own great deals.

In exciting news, we are announcing that our mobile games will come to AltStore on iOS in the EU, and we expect to announce support for at least two other third-party stores soon.

Finally, in sad news, we are today announcing that Fortnite and our other games will be leaving the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of Samsung's anticompetitive decision to block side-loading by default on Samsung Android devices, and as a result of public revelations in the US Epic v Google lawsuit of ongoing Google proposals to Samsung to restrain competition in the market for Android app distribution.

Who knew locking characters like Spider-Man and Darth Vader behind battle passes that can never be got again was bad business long term? I know the blog post only says for future battle passes, but they'll figure out away to sell those characters again.

Alan Wake 2 did not yet generate royalties.
At the time of publishing this report, Alan Wake 2 has recouped most of its development and marketing expenses.
It may hit profitability when the next DLC and the physical version comes out, but having the flagship game of your publishing arm take nearly a year to turn a profit is not very good.

Also, two weeks later, Earth Defense Force 6 is available to purchase in the good ol' USA.

In a post on its developer support website, Apple explains that it will claim a 5% 'initial acquisition fee' on any digital goods and services purchased during the first year after an initial install. This is for new users only and will not apply to customers already using the app before the new link out options come into play.

Apple will also claim a 10% store services fee on all such purchases over the first twelve months, a charge it says "reflects the ongoing services and capabilities that Apple provides developers."

These fees are on top of the already announced Core Technology Fee, which charges developers €0.50 for each first install per year for the first one million installs.

PocketGamer.biz noted that developers on Apple's existing teams will be charged a 20% fee on sales made through external links, although this is reduced to 7% for small businesses.

I've completely lost track of the Apple/Epic drama but I saw a rumor that Epic wants to launch EGS mobile on the 16th to coincide with the new Fortnite season and Fall Guys/Rocket League Sideswipe updates.

Epic also provided steps to install the Epic Game Store on mobile devices, citing that the process is long "due to Apple and Google introducing intentionally poor-quality install experiences" plagued with complex settings, lengthy steps, and "scare screens."
"The tide is turning, and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition. We are grateful to the European Commission for making it possible to launch the Epic Games Store and offer our games to iOS users in the European Union," Epic Games Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in a press release. "Now, European iOS users and all Android users can access our store and games, as they've always been able to do on open platforms like PC and Mac. The fight is far from over, but this is tangible progress for developers and consumers who can begin to benefit from competition and choice."

Few key points

-Aiming for 100 million downloads by the end of the year
-In discussions with nearly every top 250 mobile dev. They like the Android store but aren't fans of the iOS version
-Spent hundreds of millions on lawsuits I bet those 830 people you canned are happy about that


-Third party games coming in December

Yeah. Stumble Guys was the Fortnite to Fall Guys' PUBG because they pushed out a mobile version while the fad was still hot.

He's probably not wrong, they were paying peanuts for most free games and that let to user creation, the question is always the same: how many games did those people buy after that?
Epic said they had a 30% conversion rate for free user -> paid user

It is hard to call doubt on this, but I really wonder given how flat their third party spend has been.

I suppose those users could have purchased something in Fortnite or another Epic game or they purchased some extremely cheap game. Which also makes me wonder how many only bought during a coupon sale. If you convert 30% but a majority of that 30% only purchased when you lost money during a transaction and come to expect that for all of their purchases in order to continue purchasing, well then...good I guess?

Going to be curious if they try to completely poach titles off of iOS and Android stores, or only get those titles added to EGS in addition to those other stores, which I feel wouldn't go the way Epic wants... I think mobile is going to be a tougher nut to crack than PC.

Down from 17.7 million in February and up (slightly) from 14.7 million a year ago.

Steam's EU MAU will get posted eventually. Valve was pretty late last time and I don't want to hop on a VPN to check their legal page right now.

I'd guess it's Fortnite/Fall Guys/Rocket League MTX because it sure isn't third party games. :shrugblob:
