New album by Beth Gibbons

She's of course more well known as the singer from Portishead (but they're not exactly releasing a lot)

22 years ago, she also did an album together with Paul Webb (from Talk Talk)

All of these albums are of course highly recommended :)

I was at Extrema Outdoor yesterday, a festival focused on techno and house with more than 100 DJ's on 8 unique districts. The festival was sold out this year for the first time, with 30000 visitors on each of the 3 days which is a lot for a small country like Belgium.

Techno is becoming a lot more popular in our country lately, especially among 30+ people who like electronic music but dislike the modern EDM. Belgian techno DJ's like Charlotte De Witte and Amelie Lens becoming popular worldwide also helped a lot to bring the genre to a wider audience.

My favorite DJ set was definitely the 2.5 hours set from Joris Voorn. He manages to combine melodic sounds with a decent techno kick and baseline, resulting in music that's both fun to listen and to dance on.

Here is his last production, and he also has a free weekly podcast on SoundCloud where you can find lots of his own sets and guest mixes. I can't recommend this guy enough!

It like a bizarre slice of hell on earth...

I have seen Quo live many, many, many decades ago. We went because it was cheap and one of our friends was unironically a fan.
They put on a damned good show even if it is a bit light, they definitely got the crowd going and even some of the more ardent "bleh, don't like it. It's mainstream dad rock." naysayers actually cracked a smile and had fun.

So yeah, Quo, shit on them all you want but they definitely knew how to entertain a crowd.

A couple of recent releases

Brazen — Distance (alt.rock/indie)

Frøkedal — Stay (folk)

Isobel Campbell — Bow to Love (singer–songwriter)

John Cale — Poptical Illusion (alternative)

Unbelievable Truth — Misc Music (alternative rock/compilation from 2000)

Shining (Norway) — Blackjazz Live (metal...jazz)

Apocalyptica — Plays Metallica Vol 2 (cello metal)

I still need to listen to most of these, so I cant give full recommendations yet, but most of these usually put out fine music, and skipping through also left a positive impression :)

Having an amazing time playing Doom mods in a members only stream last night and they had a version of this playing followed by a bunch of Descent OST midi in Doom Soundfont.

I don't think it was this exact version but regardless it was right in my nostalgia.

I've recently pulled down a new emulation and soundfont of the Roland SC-55 which i used to own so i have several MIDI soundfonts back on my PC again but somehow i missed these which sound good and are good for Doom also.

Chorium Rev A modded more

Here is "Human" in that more modded Chorium Rev A sf2

Chorium Rev B

How-To "upgrade" and which SoundFont to use is a discussion that can start civil wars but here's a relatively decent tutorial for those of us that want to fuck about with MIDI either in retro games or just to play old midi tracks for nostalgia.

I'll post what extra software i have later on when i get home.

new album by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
(title track is very good, rest didnt really click with me)

——

New song by A Certain Someone (Rene Arbeithuber, from the German indie rock bands Slut and Pelzig)

I hope he can make an album sometime, but he posted a few weeks ago that he most likely wont get one financed — the current "living from music" landscape is quite harsh :( (nowadays, I'm always pleasantly surprised when lesser-known artists I like still make albums. "Thanks", Spotify and co)

——

New song by Kim Deal (Pixies; The Breeders) — with a debut solo album coming later this year
I'll also link the other song she released prior – both are great :)

A couple new releases:

Trelldom — By the Shadows • atmospheric black metal
this is Gaahls band, you may know him from memes :) He was in Gorgoroth, God Seed, Wardruna, Gaahls Wyrd (not to be confused with Wyrd, a black metal band from Finland) and a few others.

trentemøller — Dreamweaver • indie—electronica
this album is has soft, acoustic stuff, electronic synthwave stuff...its good. he's got a female vocalist alongside him this time, very soothing voice/singing

Motorpsycho — Neigh!! • psychedelic rock
one of my favourite bands, this one is a biiit standard fare: alternative rock, progressive rock, not much new; however, the last track is a standout for me, its completely different and welcome

Tindersticks — Soft Tissue • chamber pop
I came across Tindersticks ages ago via their singers solo album (Stuart A Staples: Leaving Songs); nice album!

Nails — Every Bridge Burning • grindcore
Its 17 minutes of grindcore. use to cleanse ears.

Molchat Doma — Belaya Polosa • darkwave
This band from Minsk, now based in LA has a couple very cool, dark & moody synth/darkwave albums already out; this is taking a step into "lighter" territory, but its a great fit.
