lmao atthose LEGO Horizon numbers.
let me give you some soundbites:

  • "this is worthless metric when the game just came out"
  • "the audience for those games will be on console"
  • "the Switch will be the main driver of sales for this game"
  • "it is in line with previous (10 year+ old releases) Lego games CCU that sold millions in the end"
  • "CCU doesn't mean anything for SP games" (unless they smash records for my favorite games)
  • "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT CCU! DON'T LOOK AT CCU!! IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING!!! ONLY NONSENSICAL PR ABOUT ENGAGEMENT COUNTS!!!!"

They are announcing new HL game next year aren't they?

Also damn Viktor Antonov is name we didn't hear in a while. He did amazing job for HL2 and later Dishonored.

After all this time I'm still a firm believer that HL1 > HL2 (fight me!)
Both amazing games but the original manages to be a bit better. Xen > That antlion level

The pacing was certainly brisker.

It was also a bit of a revolution at the time with a novel 'no load screen' narrative sci/fi shooter.

HL2 was def a refinement of the formula, along with awesome physics gun & Ravenholm.

But as a PC-enjoyer of the time, HL1 def comes out on top.

NOLF 1 is still the GOAT for this style of shooter.

A hill I will die on.

Dang. 20 years since I've bought the collector's edition and was pretty mad because I have to download something called Steam on my 56K modem connection for a single player game. And the CE was ass too. Only comes with a guide and shirt. Game is still one of the greatest though. Will watch the docu later.

Adding HDR/tonemapping is wild because I remember that early pre-release video that had tone mapping in the escape sequence, and it actually had some PBR-ish looking materials for the roof tiles as well.

I had been kind of waiting for a tonemapping update for HL2 vanilla for a long time back in the day, which never came.

I mean Half Life 1 still has far superior vibes all around. Half Life 2 has a lot of 'place', with a few standouts. I love the hive area from episode 1 or 2 (forget which). I think Alyx brought back the vibes to a degree, but nothing will really beat HL1 due to its environment & themes.

Took a bit, but I finished my review for The Rise of the Golden Idol covering the Netflix version on iOS, Switch version, and Steam versions on the TouchArcade patreon. I think it is better than the original with its variety, interface improvements, and also the puzzles, but it currently has some control issues that you may or may not run into. Also I am disappointed that the Steam version on Deck / Ally does not use the nice touch optimized interface when you use the touchscreen. Games like this are best on touch/mouse followed by a controller IMO. In this case with controls taken into account, I'd go iPad > Switch > playing on your PC with a mouse > iPhone > Deck > Ally (Ally has a smaller UI) > using a controller on TV for the interface at least.

I had the exact same issue with that piece of garbage "software". You also can't remove it like you could in W10. I gave up and just disabled all gamebar/xbox app related notifications since the rog ally felt like reminding me every few hours to claim some stupid game pass offer (when I have game pass until 2026 already).

I had a similar issue on a desktop pc before, gamebar taking screenshots even though I didn't want it to, I think I fixed it on regedit, if I'm not mistaken with either this:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR
Change AppCaptureEnabled from 1 to 0

Or this:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore
Change GameDVR_Enabled from 1 to 0

Yikes lol
that reminds me of very early DLSS, especially that footage with the fence at some point. I distinctly remember playing Control in 2020 and it had big issues with regular structures like that. Fast forward to 2024, and DLSS can handle them no issues. So if Sony puts in the time and and money and iterates on PSSR, it could get there.

I'm quite negatively surprised by Dragon Quest 3 even if i have played only half an hour but...

I was willing to get over the 2DHD art, but the entire combat happens in first person with no animations? None at all?
The combat, the looting, everything is text based? I'm already bored looking at it after less than 10 fights

I was expecting more from a game that costs as much as Dragon Quest 11 did.
I understand the originals worked like this, but this is still a brand new full price release, sheesh.

Gotta refund it i guess

Not sure if its been posted, but Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais gave an interview about the state of Steam Deck recently

The Steam Deck has seen widespread success, but it’s not stopping there. We ask Valve about the Steam Deck’s challenges and future goals - AUTOMATON WEST

they talk about the white Steam Deck, the success of the form factor, anti-cheat and the game recording feature/features in general. Not a very long interview
one day Plagman will actually talk to us instead of just lurking ... one day :p

Pretty cool, looks like the textures got AI upscaled or something, they defintely look sharper than they used to do back in the day. GunZ was freaking awesome, The only problem was the amount of hackers and also the netcode is not the best, it was definitely developed with korean ping in mind.

Edit: Actually, looking at the forum comments it seems that it's not a legit release and that it's a private unofficial server, they don't own the GunZ IP so it will probably be taken down.

This is a remake of a NES game from 1988, after all. They are hewing pretty close to the original formula despite all the additions. The OG game didn't show your characters in battle at all. Definitely don't try and force it if you're not enjoying it. Every DQ game is long and it is what it is.

At least you know now that you won't like the DQ 1 & 2 remasters either.
