less of a music tip – but a youtube channel recommendation: Arte uploads a lot of concerts up on youtube, I believe for generally a year (I assume due to some rights limitations)

check it out, they feature a vast array of genres :)

Spotify Wrapped is out; once again before the year is over :)

It reports the following for me:

Top Artists
1 The Cure
2 Pet Shop Boys
3 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
4 Brazen
5 The Beach Boys

Top Songs
1 Floating on a Moment (Beth Gibbons); 38 streams (top 0.0005% of all listeners worldwide)
2 Alone (The Cure)
3 Major Crimes (Health;Window Weather)
4 Time is on my Side (A Certain Someone)
5 Avril 14th (Aphex Twin) ... this is my wakeup alarm, but I did listen to it a lot, as well ;)

Total played 5,171 songs; total minutes listened: 33,251

In contrast, last.fm reports the following Top 10 from Jan 1 to Dec 4 (with 9,604 plays, which is quite the discrepancy – I do listen to music outside of Spotify, of course, but that seems like a huge difference)

artists;
1 The Cure – 354 plays
2 Motorpsycho – 291
3 Pet Shop Boys – 265
4 The Sisters of Mercy – 235
5 Brazen – 214
6 New Order – 210
7 Die Ärzte – 209
8 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – 188
9 Monochrome – 168
10 Einstürzende Neubauten – 166

songs;
1 Aphex Twin – Avril 14th (68)
2 Health; Window Weather – Major Crimes (40)
3 The Cure – Alone (38)
4 Beth Gibbons – Floating on a Moment (37)
5 A Certain Someone – Time is on my Side (32)
6 Kim Gordon – Bye bye (29)
7 Kim Deal – Coast (26)
8 The Cure – A Fragile Thing (25)
9 Kim Deal – Crystal Breath (23)
10 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Wild God (21)

albums; which Spotify still isnt listing
1 New Order – Substance 1987 (137)
2 Kim Gordon – The Collective (111)
3 Aphex Twin – DrukQs (110)
4 Kim Deal – Nobody loves you more (104)
5 Monochrome – Cache (103)
6 The Cure – Songs of a Lost World (91)
7 Pet Shop Boys – Nonetheless (87)
8 Brazen – Distance (85)
9 Einstürzende Neubauten – Rampen (81)
10 Trentemøller – Dreamweaver (75)

This popped into my Youtube random play when a video i was watching ended and damn, i was just thinking about this song the other day at work.
I did think it was older than 5 years though so there must be a couple of earlier songs i heard before then. I'll have to go digging.

edit: thinking about it, i think it was a "gentleman rapper" that did another similar track. Now i'm intrigued and need to find out.

Mike Portnoy, the drummer from Dream Theatre, doesnt know pop music and is asked to drum along Taylor Swifts megahit "Shake it off", which he also didnt know, making up his prog metal drums up as he goes (listening to a drumless version) ...and its fun to watch, and honestly his take kinda fits, too :)

New album by Mogwai — Scottish post-rock veterans :)

I recently linked an album by The Halo Effect, a band featuring Mikael Stanne on vocals; he's also in Dark Tranquillity, and in the gothic metal band Cemetery Skyline – their album is quite nice, too!

I previously posted about a Marc Laidlaw song, and he released the full album

I listened to it only one time but it gave me some Elvis Costello vibes both for Marc's voice and for the sound of the whole album

Rick Beato sat down with the surviving members of The Doors – Robby Krieger and John Densmore – for an hour-long interview about their career, creative and recording process, they share some funny anecdotes about their history, and they even jam a bit :)

New album by Lacona Coil (gothic metal), with a nice mix of growls and clear vocals

New album by Jinjer (metalcore), also featuring a mix of shouting and clear vocals (although here, both are performed by the same person).

And in stark contrast, a new album by the Manic Street Preachers (alternative rock & power pop), with pretty much their signature sound intact and some nice, catchy songs

furthermore, a new album by Tocotronic (alternative rock & indie rock), its pretty much the same as their previous few albums.
