With all the Steam pages now live, Saros (Returnal II) is the only game not confirmed for pc from this SoP (and Returnal is on Steam so Saros will be too eventually), so as a pc user I can say I'm feasting
The people disappointed are the ones that only want Sony's premium first party tiles, and Icon Era users

I'm not disappointed, I had no expectations. I can't say I'll be playing most of the games. The rest of it we already knew of so got some more footage, big whoop. I guess Saros might be cool given the studio too but the trailer didn't show shit. Is Metal Eden Metroid Primey? Again, too little to tell much about it and others. Sonic Team doing the next kart racer is also enough to not be sure about it, without an AM studio or at least Sumo Digital. Shinobi looks okay, not very classic. Sure though, multiplatform game announcements/showcases are always nice to have but a so called first party should probably try to have more cool shit.

Man, the gaming community is so spoiled and entitled it's embarrassing. Every year there's a deluge of amazing games but it's just taken for granted. As someone who started playing on the C64, seeing how far this industry has come blows my mind, but this hobby has become more about bitching about games than actually playing them.
I think this comes down to presentation.

Most people who are disappointed were expecting first-party games. Bloodborne. Ghost of Yotei. God of War. Wolverine. Any bigger games that Sony is developing. This State of Play, however, is full of niche games or new IP. It is not about the quality of games but about which games. People want to see their big games and get hyped. Some people may say "hey, it is not a Playstation Showcase! Don't expect big games!", but the difference between PS Showcase and State of Play is too ambiguous when big games can be shown in a SoP. Nintendo has a good solution on this: they separate the direct into general direct and partner showcase. "Oh you expect Smash Bros? Not here this is about third-party games."

On the other hand, many of these trailers just blur together due to the way how the SoP was editted. Both Nintendo Direct and Microsoft's Developer Direct put emphasis into each showcase. "Here are some games that deserve highlight.... The next trailer... I will just let you watch because this is big." Meanwhile the editting here just put all these dark and gritty action / shooter / soulslike trailers (no disrespect to any games shown here) into a video. There is no emphasis. I bet many people don't remember what exactly happened in the last trailer we just saw because the next one or the one after that FEEL similar. This is really not the way to sell these games.

My bad. Dream of Another is a PS5/PSVR2 game so it makes sense for it to not come to pc. As for Darwin's Paradox I somehow managed to remove it from memory as soon as the presentation was over

I'm going to steal a comment from the other site because it's a great summary of an annoying trend I've been noticing for a couple years now

Gonna let myself be a bit of a cynical curmudgeon here because, honestly, so many of the games I'm seeing now just blend together. So many games share at least a few of these exact bullet-points:

  • Realistic art-style
  • Set in a dark fantasy and/or sci-fi universe. Probably apocalyptic.
  • Combat involves flashy third-person action against fast-paced bosses.
  • Has Witch Time and/or a Parry
  • The protagonist is on their own. Maybe with a robotic and/or spirit companion.
  • Everyone's always just kinda miserable, speaking only in verbose declarations.
  • Has some weird-ass name that you can barely remember. Something like "ROUTE 2091: EXPOSITE," "FRAMES OF DESTRUCTION," or "PLONTIS."
...and it's getting kinda tiring at this point ngl. It's like the generic third-person shooter of the 360 era, except this time more people are on board so you feel bad for complaining lol.
Pretty much everything from china and korea (that isn't a gacha, those all look and play like genshin instead) fit this mold.

It doesn't help that so few games are made with proprietary engines these days. Some big devs do it from time to time and it is refreshing to see it. Like Doom, GTAVI, etc.

But most games these days just look like UE modified versions of themselves. (and they kind of are lol).

Maybe with the future AI takeover these AI bots can spit out new game engines or something. Otherwise all video games will soon look like commercial junk food.

Yeah the UE5 thing is another kind of related aspect to this. I've had people tell me I'm crazy for this but I can tell almost every single time a game is using UE5, they mostly all look the same to me and it's a lighting thing usually. That engine's way of lighting games is just SO unappealing to me and it's why I can always spot it.

This is the Souls effect. The industry saw how popular Souls games have gotten and decided they wanted a piece of the pie. So we're now seeing the clones with the usual 4 year AAA development time lag. To be more precise, they're mostly character action games (similar to DMC) with varying degrees of Souls influences ranging from art and visual style to game mechanics to combat and difficulty. Fans of that specific genre are feasting. The rest of us can wait patiently for the next bandwagon that the industry decides to jump on to.

I'm replaying RTCW on PC and also in VR on Quest 3 and it's still such a good game (actually it's not that long ago I replayed it on PC again but it's still fun). Someone on the VR discord just informed me there's more single player content I never knew about even though I had searched for it a bit cos I love the game's style and mechanics and felt like it was such a shame there was never more of it.. Anyway it's this, it even got an update be4 the end of the year.

They utilize Enemy Territory maps and other content to make a new campaign with survival and zombie modes on top. It looks well made, I will definitely play.

The original was unparalleled back in the day, you'd think it'd be a half baked jack of all trades with all they did with it but no, every aspect was so well done, the military bits would rival any MOH or COD, there was even stealth potential (you could lean!) and the levels had varied objectives and mechanics like the alarm systems while the supernatural stuff in the latter half took it to Doom and Quake territory. Enemy Territory then took the class based PVP crown on top.

Goosebumps at 1:44 in this trailer when the hunters take guard and Proof of a Hero kicks in.

And then we welcome back Mizutsune to Wilds. The fox dragon had one of the best battle themes in Rise.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, unlike the previous Sonic Racing games which were developed by Sumo Digital, seems like CrossWorlds is being developed internally by SEGA, and the Initial D The Arcade devs are involved in the development.

EDIT: On a tweet from a SEGA JP dev, it's also mentioned that other SEGA Arcade devs (like rhythm games team) are involved in the development, and that it's a game from Sonic Team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saros comes out on PC on day one. Sony will try to test the waters sooner rather than later with simultaneous releases of their singleplayer games on PC.
Nah.

They seem to be keen on keeping the current PC strategy.

Which is fine by me. There is so much to play on PC my head is spinning.

I really do wish someone on the Monster Hunter team would play games on a PC more regularly. The UI and controls still don't make a lot of sense until you grit your teeth and learn to live with them. At least based on the latest beta.

I covered Avowed's PC version on Steam Deck for RPG Site. ROG Ally wasn't doable after it kept crashing on launch for me. Not really recommended on Steam Deck right now, but it is playable.

I want to give you recognition for the thorough testing on Steam Deck, it's very detailed and easy to read. Well done! As for the game's performance, I think a 30 fps target with drops into the mid 20s is quite acceptable for a handheld device.

Thanks for reading and appreciate the kind words. I think it will get there after some patches. A better showing than many recent current gen titles for sure.

And today we loop back to Far Cry Primal.

I think that's all the Far Cry games. That leaves only 1 and 2 but I don't think those have achievements anywhere on PC.

Hopefully they'll start doing smaller games now, like Trials and Rayman.
You are correct, that completes all of the Far Cry series with Ubiconnect achievements! I am hoping for Valiant Hearts 1/2 and AC3 Remastered next. I really want an excuse to replay AC Liberation (as part of the AC3 Remastered package).

I wonder if the first 2 far crys and the first 3 AC are going to get this treatment

I doubt it. Far Cry 1-2 and AC 1-2 and Brotherhood don't even have Ubi achievements. So they would need to implement them from scratch.

So far all the games they've done already had achievements on their own platform. So all they needed to do was activate them on the Steam end of things, everything else was already in place. That's why it was so baffling to me that most of their games didn't support Steam achievements until now.

maybe Obsidian can improve things a bit after launch, but very likely, it will never have a super stable 30. Maybe the Steam Deck 2 and things like FSR4 will help there, with both stronger base hardware and more effective ML based upscaling to produce better IQ. FSR3 and TSR just look so bad, imo

Yea I feel like the Deck's own limiter would help, but not until we get a 30+ fps experience on here.

Super stable 30 fps is a lofty goal for a handheld that not even PS5 and Series X games can often achieve. I think that sometimes people are a bit too harsh when judging Steam Deck's performance.

Looks like all the Avowed reviews settled on 8 out of 10.

Classic Obsidian.
Classic modern obsidian you mean. During obsidian's golden era they were making janky games that shot for the moon in reactivity and rpg depth with some of the best writing in the industry.

Modern obsidian makes pretty solidly polished ultra streamlined games that don't really stand out in any way, which going by the reviews Avowed seems to hit all those marks. I've seen so many knocks against the story and companions being forgettable. That's very modern obsidian.
