Damn, good job Milena. Now I know I need to try harder on this next one (though I don't think any amount of searching would have helped me find Creature Shock or Terra Nova).

Yup! It was great. I got 14 out of 15 submitted... that's sort of acceptable. And I knew that the 25th had to be from a pinball game, but couldn't figure out which one.
Now that I look at the answers I'm happy I quit when I did... I'd never have found them.

EDIT: ¿ WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE ?

Gah! Magic Carpet! That one bugged me so much. I knew I recognized it, but the name just wouldn't come to me. Ecstatica 2 was the one that I was completely lost with.

And congrats to you, Milena! Almost a perfect score is pretty impressive. :)

May Quiz - handheld gaming

Two weeks ago the Nintendo Game Boy turned 30 years old, and to honor its legacy this round is dedicated to games for handheld consoles - but only on devices 100% made for video games, mobile phones are excluded.

Of course this topic means that Nintendos many handhelds are heavily covered, but I kept a balance: One half of this quiz is for games where Big N didn't supply the hardware.

After the round for MS-DOS classics this month might not be as easy, as a few obscure titles made their way into the lower half of the picture... but I am confident you can do it.

Well then, hope you brought enough batteries or an AC adapter to charge on the go? :p

Deadline is Friday the 31st of May, please participate via May 2019 - Handheld Gaming Quiz

here is the quiz, good luck!

I've played less than 10 handheld games in my life, this won't go as well as last month :face-with-cold-sweat:

Luckly I've played a lot of handhelds... but I only know half.

7 and 16 are a little hard to pinpoint which entry in the series.

I have pretty much never played any of the handhelds I've owned so this will be a bit rough. I don't think I'll figure out any of the last five. I do know, or feel confident in finding, around 15 of the titles but this is still a pretty rough one.

After a few days of boredom at work, I disovered that I'm pretty good at discovering things after all.
I'm still unsure about a few entries, so I'll wait for hints, but the only one I really have no clue about is n. 25.

May Quiz - Clues #1

I hope your battery still lasts a bit, this month is at best half over - more than enough time to join the 35 contestants (four from here) that already submitted their first round of anwers.
In regards to points all doors are still open, the top 10 already starts at sixteen correct answers... maybe these clues will help:

1) Twelve games for Nintendo platforms, three each for Sega and Atari, plus six for Sony. A single title remains a mystery for now. ;)
2) For the companies named above, the rule is "three quiz entries per console" (pre-advance Game Boys count as one though)
3) Number 8 & 9 were launch titles.
4) Number 1 is said to be the best game for that console.
5) the games 11 & 17 are turnbased RPGs.

That's it, let's go!

Deadline is Friday the 31st of May, participate via May 2019 - Handheld Gaming Quiz

2) Game 18 is a shooting-heavy action game with prerendered backgrounds.
3) Title number 12 is by Square Enix.
4) 21 is a comic license game.
5) A single game this round was released on the Bandai Wonderswan.

And again, thank you so much for putting these together! I'm already looking forward to the next one. :)

June Quiz - Role Playing Games

You enter the dungeon. Your party consists of a mage in long robes, a female barbarian in a chainmail bikini, a dwarf with an axe as big as his belly and a rogue with cape and dagger. After defeating countless monsters in the torch-lit (fluorescent mushrooms are also an option) corridors, you reach the legendary treasure room - only a massive iron gate is between you and incredible riches!

But whats this? The mage deciphers the old runes - solve the riddle, or may the gate remain closed forevermore... A riddle?? 25 video games?! WTF?!?

The mage rolls for intelligence, the thief examines the gate, while the dwarf lights a bonfire. At least you brought lots of food - rations for three weeks!

Can you solve the riddle? There's even a bonus question for an extra point...

Deadline is Sunday the 30th of June, so you got exactly three weeks.
Please participate via June 2019 - Role Playing Games

it does? I just added the question to mix things up a bit, wasn't intended as a guide - but I'm happy you found additional use for it! Did realising the pattern help to narrow down some harder titles?

Yes! RPGs! :heroblob:
-looks at all the JRPGs-
Noooooooo :notlikethisblob:
Come on, less than half of them are JRPGs. :) See, that was even an early hint just to cheer you up!

No Neptunia, I'm boycotting this month
Did anyone ever do a count of how many JRPGs exist in total??
Besides there already was a quiz with Neptunia... just three years ago:p

I think I've solved the riddle...
I won't tell before the end of the month! :censored:

June Quiz - Clues #1

Again and again your party rolls for Intelligence and Wisdom, but so far you still haven't found out all games. Truly not an easy task for the so far 30 participants (four from here).

But searching the room reveals further ancient runes... what's that? Clues?! °_° Well here we go!

1) Slightly more than half of the games are western RPGs.
2) Almost all games are part of a series.
3) Four games in this quiz have (also) been released on the Commodore Amiga.
4) Number 6, 12 and 16 can only be played on Nintendo consoles.
5) In the first versions of title 25 the player character still looked like this: @

You still have two weeks to join! :)

June Quiz - Clues #2

We have a first breakthrough - this week all games were guessed correctly. But still, we'd need to add all your entrys together to have it all, as still no one has achieved full points (25 + bonus point). With eleven correct answers on average it is a surprisingly difficult round, maybe even the hardest riddle of the year so far.

Will our team of adventurers still make it to the treasure? Almost 40 people are in so far (four from here), don't give up now!

Here are the last clues... you still have one week. :)

1) Game 1 is several years old, but will be released on Switch just this year.
2) For the third title a third entry of the series was announced a few weeks ago.
3) Picture 20 shows you a fragment of the title screen.
4) Game 23 was made by a German team and was released in the late 90s.
5) Title number 8 is an RPG and part of a series, but all other entries are NOT role playing games.

Deadline is Sunday the 30th of June, please participate via June 2019 - Role Playing Games

It's definitely the hardest game of the quiz (I can tell if I look at the answers so far :face-savouring-delicious-food:). While most titles this month are well known, that one is obscure so many people won't even have heard of it.

Well, you'll know on Monday! :smiling-face-with-halo:

Turns out I could have gotten a few more points if I didn't just send the quiz in frustrated. I even guessed one game was a Wizardry title but I couldn't be bothered to look it up. And I must have looked at a billion different Rogue (and Nethack) screens but most Rogue shots had a smiley face character and I misremembered thinking that was the original. I looked again and see @ sure enough is the original. I nearly just wrote that in simply to move on.

Anyhow, nice challenge since this wasn't a strong area for me at all.

July Quiz - Videogame Jobs

Okay folks, it's time to brush up those CVs, because no matter if it's the British "job centre", the US "Job corps center" or the German "Arbeitsamt" - we are job hunting! Luckily you got into an especially modern institution that adapted their listings according to video games. That totally makes sense, because it's been decades since computer games only featured you as a space fighter pilot or some sword-wielding dragon slayer. Indeed, there's a wide spectrum of jobs on display!
For our quiz this means you not only have to name the 25 games, but also the job you are tasked to do. Do you know them all??

Here's an example (with games that didn't make it into this round):

The correct answers (for 6x 0.5 points = full score) in the form would be as follows...

1) We Cheer 2, cheerleader
2) Bridge Constructor, engineer
3) Flight unlimited, pilot

Easy enough? :)

Deadline is Wednesday the 31st of July, please participate via July 2019 - Job Centre / Arbeitsamt

July Quiz - Clues #1

Don't hesitate, an entire riddle filled with wonderful lavishly well-paid (okay, some might be) jobs is waiting! So far the waiting room at the job centre has 23 people, and two from this forum.

Here are a few clues:

1) Number 4 is the oldest game of this round (40 years), and number 21 is the youngest (just shy of one year).
2) The games 2 and 6 are Sega classics.
3) Title 14 is the last of a series with five games.
4) Game 24 is all about sports.
5) Half a point for the game, half a point for the job - cheesing cheap half points was never easier than this round. ;)

Deadline is Wednesday the 31st of July, participate via July 2019 - Job Centre / Arbeitsamt
