I've started trying but I have little ideas how diets works. I'm starting by cutting out sugar and bread where I can, and counting calories. Wish me luck!

A few months ago I've tried one of those blood-tests-at-home, which gave some abnormal results.
I got in touch with my GP, and a few other blood tests and one ultrasound scan, it turns out I've got the so-called Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, which is kind of a mouthful way to say I eat like shit and hardly move my butt from the chair, which yeah I could have told them immediately, saving the NHS some quids.

Long story short, if I don't drastically decrease my carbs and fats intake, and also do some excercise every now and then, I risk getting type 2 diabetes, cirrhosis, strokes, and death I guess? Death it's kind of a given at some point, so why not.

I tried running for a while last year, but it didn't stick (I blame the fact that I got rather fat in the last few years, and my legs can't sustain my new weight as well as they did when I was a spring chicken), but I definitely need to start again, maybe slower at first.

What will really be painful is the change of diet.
I'm Italian, and my wife is Italian too, so pasta/bread/pizza/etc. it's kind of a given for us (and also our baby daughter needs to eat her carbs).
But most importantly, I'm very into Chinese cuisine. Like, I would eat Chinese every day if I could. I'm even a decent wannabe Chinese cook!
Unfortunately, even removing carbs from the equation, Chinese is also rich in fats and salts (those delicious sauces!).

Damn, 2020 will be a big pain in the butt, I know. šŸ™

I can't run either, I'm too heavy for my knees to handle when running. I would recommend going on long walk, more like power walks. Do one hours at least every day and it will give results. Also don'r accumulate it, meaning 10 mins there and there, do one hour nonstop. Together with diet changes also it can do wonders! That's what I did before I also started gymming and I lost maybe 20kgs on walking/diet alone.

Maybe you are thirsty or the food is very acidic? I used to always feel hungry after eating apples for some reason.
No idea, I'm usually pretty hydrated, it's a minor annoyance and goes away after a while, but it happens mostly on weekends when I go out and eat with my family, and I end up hungrier when I get home, feels like a waste of money :p

This is a good starting point.

Cutting carbs (chips, white rice, greasy food), saturated fat and sugar will give you great results if you're keeping your caloric intake in check.

I lost 150 pounds between 2011-2013 by doing this. Minimal cheat days and an overhaul of my eating habits. If you need any advice, let me know.

Self control and moderation. Don't keep junk in your home either. It's tough at first, but you'll get used to it.

Since I started lifting weights, and I don't lift that much, I've been hungry nonstop and doesn't matter how much I eat and I'm sleepy also always. Don't remember it being like this before.
I had the sleepiness thing for several months, I'd feel drowsy soon after I finished my exercise routine each day, I had to take naps at noon and I still slept like a rock at night. It went away after a while but I still take a break in the afternoon to nap now. I remember 2 sundays where I just literally stayed in bed and slept through the entire day after I was done with my morning stuff, and strangely the drowsiness just kinda went away since.

Good thing is that it kind of fixed my terrible sleeping habit I had my entire life, I hit the bed as soon as I have the time at night and I became a morning person, I could actually sleep for hours straight like when I was a kid, I always thought that's not possible ever since I became an adult :p

20 min naps around noon are the best!:D I often take them. I've also become a morning person, I love waking up early and having my coffee before the world wakes up.

But yeah I think the sleepyness is going away, now that I think of it I haven't felt too tired in awhile. But I did increase my lifting weights today so let's see.

Didn't watch that but from what I've seen on giantbomb quicklook, ringfit can be really intense, especially since it consistently make you do a bunch of reps against a boss. I'd get it if I had a switch.

I have lost 2.1kg in a week, which is a lot more than I expected! About 8 more kg's to go, and then trying to keep that weight.

I'm craving for chocolate, pizza and French fries tho šŸ˜Ÿ

Finally bought myself a scale and wow the shock at how much I've gained! BUT I started a routine to weigh myself first thing every morning and it helps me motivate to stay of sugar and go out for a walk every day. So little by little it is going down.

I lost 50kg last year and I'm trying to lose another 40~ more this year to get down to my ideal weight of 76~kg. I've stopped doing pure fast weight loss dieting and cardio and am eating a more normal diet and doing a lot more weight training and muscle building which is a nice change of pace. I've lost 6kg this month so far which is probably a bit quicker than I need to drop it.

The downside to losing so much weight though is the loose skin, that kind of sucks arse but it's significantly better than the alternative.

Funnily enough NAFLD is also what kicked my arse into gear late 2018, I'm still in my very early 20's, way too young to be dealing with Fatty Liver Disease. I did it to myself and by god I'll undo it myself if it's the last thing I do lol. Let me know if you need any dieting/exercise advice.

ShadowAUS that's impressive! Over the years I've lost 60kgs and still have quite a bit to go. But yeah the loose skin part sucks and I'm kind of worried about it. But yeah it's till better than the alternative.
Thanks! It was quite possibly the most mentally taxing thing I've ever done but it gets easier the more you get used to dieting and exercise as I'm sure you know, 60kg is no small amount!

Loose skin is just one of those things you have to deal with, a battle scar if you will. I mean if I weigh up the body image, confidence and mental health impact of being a morbidly obese, severely unhealthy dude with no loose skin against being a relatively skinny but altogether healthy dude that happens to have loose skin it's kind of a no-brainer for me. You can offset some of the loose skin (or most depending on the amount) with building up muscle to fill it out which is what I'm working on now while also continuing to shed fat. It's far from ideal but if by the end it's so horrendous that it continues to significantly impact my mental health/confidence than surgery is always an option, not an easy, pleasant, cheap or risk-free option but an option nonetheless.

Broccoli is great! Has good amount of protein, so if one weight trains it's a good food to eat.

It's funny, two days in a week did I eat cookies and both times the next day I gained weight. But overall I've been going down. I still eat a lot of rice but I fill it with a bunch of cauliflower and beans. I've been eating greek yogurt and a banana for lunch, and to make it little more interesting I've been putting a bit of pure cacao in the yogurt.

Yeah, I love broccoli, but I never had a full bowl of it for a single meal. I usually put some on my soup or other dishes.

For some reason whenever I exercise I get lightheaded. What could be the reason for it?
If you're not overexerting yourself than the 2 most common reasons are dehydration and low blood sugar. If you don't think it's one of those 2 than go to your GP as you may have an underlying health issue that may be causing it.

I've lost another 2kg last week. That makes almost 5kg since I started my diet. It's still hard as f*ck for me tho, I'd almost kill for a bag of potato chips.

I've been in the realms of 6x kg since last week. I've also started playing badminton again every Wednesday with my high school friends. Feels good.

That said, I need to start thinking about my diet after I reach 65kg later. Losing weight is not always good, and I need to come up with something. I'm super happy with my new habit, but if I want to stop losing weight, I guess I have to return to having normal lunch whether I like it or not. Maybe I can simply add a snack time in the afternoon.

Yeah, our metabolisms are funny like that - this is how I've gone about boosting my metabolsim after years of unhealthiness. Cut out as much sugar as you realistically can (you don't need to go keto crazy or anything), less than 70g a day or so - especially sugary drinks, if you need sweet drinks than find something naturally sweetened with something like Stevia, not healthy but better (I like Nexba's soft drinks and sparkling waters). Make sure you're eating enough calories, a lot of people don't realize that consuming few calories (<1000) on their own (crash dieting etc.) can cause more harm than good by significantly slowing your BMR down, so make sure you're eating at least 1000kcal a day unless you're on a specific regime/program like OptiFast (which combines very low calorie intake with keto). Also eat more protein and spicy food where possible.

If you're sedentary most of the day try looking into a standing desk as standing burns significantly more calories than sitting. Also make sure you're doing some amount of daily exercise, ideally a mix of weight training and cardio (I alternate days of bench press and stationary bike riding, I play my 3DS on the bike which makes burning calories fly by). Weight training for building muscle which helps your metabolism and cardio for general health and calorie burning (You can also mix on some HIIT which is particularly good for fat burning). You don't need to do massive amounts, just enough to work up a decent sweat which for most people in this thread, me included, won't take much longer than 15 minutes (though the more the better, some is better than none) :p

Doing some (or all) of this will massively help offset a slow (or slowing from things like age) metabolism.

Yeah, standing at work is a great advice. Fortunately, my office has standing desks in multiple spots so I usually move there once or twice a day until my laptop battery runs out. I don't really count my calorie intake, but I'm quite sure that 3 slices of bread in the morning and a full course of meal with rice for dinner should be enough.

I'm little proud of myself, I went into the store so sure I would get either cookies or a piece of pastry but I came out with a pineapple!:D Sure it's sugary but it better for you than it's bad.

For dinner I had freshly baked baguette, nice cheese, avacado and a little bit of chill olive oil and of course some red wine. I'm so expecting it to show on the scale tomorrow, but it was so good!XD

Hmh I have trouble understanding what's happening with my body, over a week I lost like 1.5 kg but this Monday I started a workshop and they offer lunch and just that has made me gain 1,2kg in just 3 days! The thing is that the lunch they offer isn't even that unhealthy, I go for vegetarian and it's mostly salad and some brown pasta and the sizes are small. So my overall calorie intake for the day can't be that high.

I can't be the only one on a diet so much so that I'm the only spamming this thread!;P

Put wanted to say I figured out why I was getting so light headed from exercise, turns out my B12 levels are way below normal and one effect of that is that my blood doesn't do a good job of transporting oxygen.

Haha, it's been slowing down these days (it's hovering in the 68 kgs), because I've started to have a lunch or two within the week. But still, no rice.

All of my pants and jeans are now too big and I need to use a belt. I guess I'll have to bring them to the tailor later.
