So did people that pre-ordered also get the 20% discount? Or is there now a run of refunding and re-buying?

I think Epic issues a partial refund for the difference. It's one of the few advantages they have over Steam.

This must be the first time that I've seen a game being discounted exactly on the day of release. 🤔

Anyway it's damn sad that people actually pre-ordered the KH games at these prices on EGS. Some people really don't care about anything 😞
Well, this is probably proof that the games weren't doing so hot, don't you think? They just released full price and no discount Octopath Traveller, what makes you think this was an Square-Enix thing and not an Epic thing?

Based on what I see on stream, the port is pretty good.

Dual audio, unlocked fps, resolution scaling, and fast loading.

if they had to pop an "unplanned" discount with retroactive refunds the games were selling like shit, otherwise they'd have been either discounted since they went up on the store or they'd have remained undiscounted.

I wonder if Square Enix is going to do a stealth release on Steam later. Or is it full one year exclusivity?
We have absolutely no idea about Square-Enix deal, we don't know if it's 6 months, 12 months, 1 month or just 1 week. :upside-down-face:

Wait and see, I guess.

It's rather unlikely that Epic lowered the price and pays the difference to SE. This looks like a last-minute promotion sponsored by Disney to me. Not sure why Disney is doing this and why it's communicated so late. Perhaps low pre-orders have something to do with it but not necessarily. Looking at social media, plenty of people seemed to be fine paying full price on EGS.
Well I would say they care about Kingdom Hearts a lot.
Good point. 😁

Nah man, look at what SE has been doing in terms of pricing of different products, once again, look at Octopath Traveller, this one is the only moneyhatted one, Geoforce, clearly Epic is pushing this one a lot.

Also, commenting is free, from commenting to paying the full price there's an step :p

I think that very much depends on the weight of the dev/publisher, if CDPR, Activision, EA, whathaveyou ask them to lower the price to avoid being part of the coupon sale they'll be more inclined to do so than when RandomAssIndieDev asks. That said RandomAssIndieDev will be happy that's been paid in advance and will get more money later through Steam OR it's already earning money through Steam anyway so I guess they're less likely to care.

edit: also Epic is eating the coupon costs anyway so the only real loss for the indie dev is the devaluing of their product on a store that's used by far less people anyway

Really? Im seeing the opposite. Checking r/kingdomhearts, ERA and Twitter (searching "kingdom hearts").
Oh good. My comment was only based on the amount of people with pre-order responding to the 20% discount on social media. If that's all buzz there is, sales aren't probably very good.

It's probably not Square's decision, but it really wouldn't surprise me if Disney pushed them to do the discount to prevent negative press. This would explain the free Disney+ as well.

Disney seems to have a very good relationship with Epic; the only EA games on EGS are Star Wars games for example. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney was the one who decided EGS exclusivity and not Square.

By the way I've noticed that several new games from devs/publishers who did exclusivity before aren't even released on EGS anymore, TW Rome Remaster and the new Rebellion game for example. I wonder why that is. Wasn't Epic trying to get more games on their store or is this still work in progress?

Do EGS still demand some for of exclusivity? That would be the main reason i could think of or maybe it's more work for an EGS release due to semi-manual pipeline or they don't want to have to compile versions of the game with and without Steamworks ? Or they haven't got around to it yet? Surely a publisher who maybe hasn't gained from EGS Exclusivity as much as they'd like would still want to release it on EGS too if there's no barrier of entry? There's no real reason not to unless it's too much extra work or there's some disagreement or clash between upper management and someone's got a mood on?

The Disney+ thing is true that it's a deal between Epic and Disney as they have done this in the past. The discounts however, I don't think so but let's just say it's a 50/50 as I'm not convinced.

Nope, this was Square Enix by themselves, unfortunately we won't have the details but a few millions were dropped at their door and they were like OMGGGGG!!!! so yeah, this time is not a Disney thing for sure, in fact, Disney wants their properties in as many places as possible because CAPITALISM IS GOOD!

In fact this is also most likely due to Square being interested in expanding into multiple places, although for some reason the smaller stuff is Steam only so, I'm not complaining hahaha

Wired publisher too, the moment epic stops giving big money is the moment most of them drop them if the sales are not worthy.

Afaik Epic doesn't demand exclusivity anymore. I was especially surprised about Rebellion, because I remember that the CEO said Epic how Epic was paying "through the nose" for exclusivity. This means they must have gained a lot from exclusivity since Zombie Army 4 didn't set the world on fire on any platform. If this still doesn't lead to the publisher's loyalty towards EGS, that would be great news for us.

Are they still making every store page manually? I guess they could just be limited by what the employees can type up in a day. That was their excuse a while ago.

The top sellers list was updated again. It is once again a Top 25, but free to play games are still included:

I swear to god that I'm fucking tired of their shit, keeping track of their changes is like smashing your B*** with a hammer, KEEP A FUCKING STEADY TRACK, FFS.

It's the same list as the one they reverted but including the F2P ones, predictable as fuck with KH and Hitman topping (surprise, moneyhats)

Also, let's point the differences.

As far as I see, most of them exclusives, some multistore removed and that's it.
Still useless as we don't have data nor numbers and that's it.

Thanks for the heads up tho.

KH and Hitman 3 bringing in more revenue than RL is rather weird. Either these games are selling very well, or people aren't spending lots of money on RL on EGS.

Or perhaps this list is complete nonsense , that's even more likely 🙂

It helps that some parts of Hitman 3 are offered for free.

For instance, this:

and this, which is supposed to be 15€, but is free:

That would be cool to see.
Also I have always said I'll buy exclusives on Epic if they are putting in the money and taking the risk.
Makes me think, I wonder if they would try their luck and make it a timed exclusive from even the consoles? (obviously I hope not).
If that's the price to pay for AW2 to ever be a real thing, so be it.
Day one purchase on EGS.

Hopefully the first one is remastered.

I didn't like Alan Wake very much, enemies constantly spawning out of thin air was extremely annoying for me. But even if I liked it, it wouldn't buy the sequel on EGS anyway. While it's fair the a game published by Epic is exclusive on EGS, Epic is on the very top of my "shitty games company" list. Because of this, there's no way I'll give them my money, no matter what game they keep hostage on their store.

It's been over 10 years since AW. I expect an EGS funding is the only way to get it.

This is also not some "big" blockbuster title that will make people swarm to EGS.

If AW did well I would have expected a company to have funded the development long time ago.

Sometimes I feel like Im one of the few people on the planet who cares about AW 2. :(

Other companies were trying to fund the game too.
