|OT| Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium | 1.5th Anniversary (Jun 25th)

This isn't mere cooking
It's an entire restaurant
Totally didn't expect the double banner. Damn, so next patch will be Sextans than we will get another major featuring Groza Alter and Soppo? Absolute madness.

If they have playable units, then it would make sense they have story chapters to fill the usual 3 week patch slot. In fact since the most likely candidates for Gridman are Rikka and Akane it wouldn't surprise me if it counts as a major 2-parter
Neural Cloud's Steins Gate collab was the same. It basically had a full on crossover story with the SG VN hud included during scenes from their point of view

Yeah the teaser pic from earlier has Rikka and Akane so I think they will be added as playable units. Would be a much-needed breather before Groza Alter, too, because I think most people want to pull multiple Vs of her.

The main girl of Ultraman can also henshin, but I think she's a bit niche unlike Akane and Rikka who are very popular characters. Maybe the collab event will also be skins only.

I should really read the Steins Gate collab. Heard it is really good.

Kuro, Igla, G36C. My body is ready for some shit posting.

Actually. 4 upcoming dolls. They also said 6P62 is coming next year. No pic.

Another thing, apparently they said the event is 3 times longer than Corposant. JESUS CHRIST.

Finished Dawnforger part 1. Very good event so far overall. The event structure reminds me of Deep Oblivion with part 1 being made of 3 separate "episodes" told over the span of a week, and like that it also has a pretty quick pace. Even in the first 3rd we see various things converging from previous storylines (the fake drug from Florence's, the Doll Community attackers, the fake vaccine from Deep Oblivion) which makes it clear this is a proper mainline event and not a filler. This event also features a high amount of interesting NPCs too, and it's nice to finally get some screentime for Groza, Krolik and Mayling since it feels they, like most of the early chapters cast, got basically put into a corner to focus on the more popular dolls. I do have some issue over how long Groza's breakdown was, I get what the authors wanted to show but it was such a clear pacekiller especially since in the end the Commander (and the player) got more info on what was happening to Groza from Loreley so that long scene feels even less necessary. I'm also not exactly sure about all the time dedicated to the Commander and Loreley's CBT roleplay in the prison, especially since it was obvious that "prison" was in Vasily's hands since he could casually get out of his cell anytime he wanted without the guards doing nothing since they all knew who he was. I also have to wonder what exactly happened between the penultimate node and the final battle: in one moment the commander is casually breaking out of prison with Vasily, Mr White and Mayling, then the very next Mokosh is in full blow war, Theia got defeated instantly and we're fighting some sort of AT-AT out of nowhere. Things really escalated fast here!
Oh well, the liberation of Mokosh will have to wait a few weeks. Ready for daughter to be back next

I also finished the event just now. Unfortunately it was a mixed bag to me.

To begin with, the JP script once again went wild. So many missing contexts in the dialogues. In the party scene, George said Theia can't do overtime work, but in the JP dialogue he said "she doesn't like this kind of convention (the party)". They are not translating / localising but simplifying the script. What the hell is going on?

In addition, I didn't feel any sense of danger throughout. To be fair, commander faced much greater threat in the past, but due to Loreley's constant horniness in display, it is very hard to take the whole predicament of Mokosh seriously. It also greatly lessened the impact of seeing Groza at the brink of neural cloud collapse when we saw that Commander and Loreley were actually role-playing underground. Take it easy, Groza, they are enjoying down there.

On the other hand, story isn't bad and the characters are great. One thing that is consistent about GFL2 is that the writers did a great job in writing event characters. Mayling's depth as a character got deepened, and the relationships between Vasily and George / Dr. White and Vasily were written well. I look forward to seeing what's in store for us in part II.

Last but not least, Inoue Marina. Wow. Her performance as Groza was superb. I listened to some of her lines for multiple times. Saitou Yuka is also amazing for voicing Ullrid and Loreley. Her deep voice is incredible.

I also wonder what M200 / Cheyanne is doing here in Mokosh. Isn't she in NOMFA? Can't wait to see her soon.

Good to know that even Japanese are not happy with the translations. I'm thinking that Dawnforger might be translated by the same people responsible for Lenna's event? Corposant and Antiparallel were fine.

Why was our daughter talking to Dandelion at the first node of Dawnforger Part 2? And Liu's event is a continuation of Basti's? Hero's Bizarre Adventure part 2 please?

I've only read 3 nodes so far. The JP script and voice-acting in Dawnforger Part 2 are so good. Especially the script which is a huge improvement from Part 1.

Ogura Yui (Cheyanne) and Toyama Nao (Kalina) (chef's kiss

Dawnforger Part 2 done. Huge huge huge improvement from Part 1. I enjoyed it immensely.

Vasily is such a great character. His development into a leader is portrayed comprehensively, and the process is logical and well-developed. The moment when he realised that Mokosh doesn't solely need a messiah like commander but rather its people honestly stunned me a bit - so many stories in animes and videogames out there right now are trying to build the protags into almighty beings that can change the course of story. While commander does receive a fair amount of glaze, it is refreshing to see a character who thinks deeply and sees through what's really important to bring forth a long-term change.

On the other hand, the villains are also written really well. Theia and Gaia suprised me a lot. From underestimating their enemy to combining into one in order to win, they are truly formidable foes, and I certainly didn't expected to see such character development from them. Their 2vs1 fight against M200 was also exciting to read. In addition, the backstory of George also feels very real. Like Vasily said at the end, being a leader is tough. In the flashback, George was forced to give in to demands from Zimmermann. He may had truly cared about the settlement at first but later descended into corruption. In my eyes, he is just another human in this cruel world.

Last but not least, our daughter did very well. :cat-heart-blob: I'm so proud of her. She even dropped the best line in the story.
yeah.webp

I was honestly quite disappointed by Part 1, but this Part 2 is so good. Knowing what happened in the Basti story, commander seems to have entered the phrase of gaining allies from different places in the Yellow Zone. I wonder what awaits in Liu's story. Going to start reading it soon.

Finished Dawnforger part 2. Enjoyed it in full. I liked how the commander didn't devolve into an insta-win messiah that solved all of Mokosh problems on his own and instead Vasily and White did just as much as anyone else to free the city. The pacing was great with things happening quickly without however feeling too hastened. Cheyanne's adventures on her own were fun, and I'm really curious to see how the Tomato Emperor grows his "business" even more in the Yellow Zone
I mostly have a few question marks left. First, we went from Groza in part 1 making what Basti was going to do at the end of her event feel like child's play to her basically becoming a 2/3 sentence footnote in part 2, although it's not like Krolik, Suomi and Ullrid did much either. The usual suspects (Klukai and Makiatto) sucked all the doll screentime. I guess they are no longer willing to trust someone else guarding the commander after part 1
Second, is the joke about how Cheyanne is ultra unremarkable, plain, quiet, invisible, only good for low ranking jobs but then blowing up Gaia and Theia without issues on their first encounter, infiltrating every place of interest in Mokosh and finding all the major incriminating evidence on her first try, and then beating Gaia and Theia again on her own with a perfectly planned battle plan that makes The End look like a newbie a reference to how despite her having zero story presence in GF1 she was always a top tier Sniper Rifle unit gameplay wise?
Third, I get their sob story, and I get how multiple times it was obvious 3rd gen dolls (or failed 3rd gen dolls in Theia/Gaia's case) love their silly theatrics so much the always get done because of their own distraction but man. In part 1 Theia gets taken out without even a single fight, in the first 3rd of part 2 both Theia and Gaia get themselves blown up by Cheyanne['s explosives, then even after finally taking the entire thing seriously they still get eliminated by Cheyanne in a proper fight, then Gaia sacrifices herself and fuses with Theia to make her "full" and... Klukai and Makiatto run a train on her without troubles. Like in the final battle Theia doesn't even get a "boss introduction cutscene" and instead that half hacked Chimera Tank is the real boss (you can even confirm it with Klukay, running Theia over alone does not trigger her V3 special effect that allows her to use the Ultimate a second time if she hits a single boss unit, meaning even in the code she is not considered a boss, but just an "elite enemy"). Talk about being the queens of jobbing among a group specialized in jobbing
Overall the event was good, and I'm interested in seeing how the story continues. Now time to rush the other event currently running before the minigames/challenge stages/other limited stages open up since we're currently accellerating again[/ISPOILER]

Meanwhile Lotta shows up during the final battle but she doesn't even get a voice line. :unamused-face: I guess they are leaving the Groza problem to her major but it's still weird that they didn't talk about it even after the battle.

CN event part 2 is out. Unless you want to see event spoilers, I recommend blocking / muting / avoiding every place that might give you spoiler. I've already seen some data-mining stuff which honestly are things I don't want to see now. Avoiding those places from now on.

Also, event part 3 on July 30. This event will have an ending theme so stay strong (yeah, I'm talking to myself on this one. I regret watching Corposant ending video)
