I'm too sleepy but my big interview with GOG is up on RPG Site. We discussed how important the Capcom RE and Dino Crisis releases were for GOG, Horses, one click modding, potentially bringing back classic MH games, Skyrim special/anniversary being split up, how delayed updated affect mindshare, game preservation, and much more.

Well shit. I wasn't expecting to write another note on the GOG wishlist, but that article went and gave me the inspiration.

I really like the ideas behind GOG, it's very much about preservation and love for the work and creativity to focus on keeping games working on modern systems, and even allowing an easy way to add certain large mods. It's nice to see them address how much this is at the core of their work, and that they hope to improve relations with other publishers to expand this.

However, I have recently been soured a bit due to their newsletter fiasco, and especially some of the non-responses that were given (i.e. no forum moderation because banning is too fanatical and resembles the things it is fighting... Someone really needs a lesson on the paradox of tolerance). Would have loved for the article to push them a bit on this to force them to distance from such behaviour (or not, in which case I will not purchase again from GOG). But I do understand that it was not the scope of this interview (and the newsletter might have happened after the interview was done).

Anyway, I am much more hesitant to buy games from GOG now, even tough they seem by far the best option out of the stores. I really hope they will course-correct on this someday soon (and release galaxy for Linux )
