Interview with Yohei Shimbori, Producer on Dead or Alive 6

K. : Do you think about making a free-to-play model for DOA 6 in the future ?

Y. S. : We’re definitely think about making it international ! Actually, we have cofirmed it for the East at Tokyo Game Show, but we’re still in the early stages, so you’ll have to wait for more details once it’s ready.

K. : Oh that’s nice !

Y. S. : We’ll first be launching the physical version and then you’ll get more details on the free-to-play version. The timing isn’t clearly defined, as we don’t know if we’ll announce it near launch or the day of launch. It’s still being discussed.

Cool looking turnbased RPG just launched from Early Access

Element: Space is a turn-based tactical squad RPG set two-hundred years in the future.
As Captain Christopher Pietham, you will lead your crew into battle in order to save humanity from extinction!
Travel to the far reaches of spaces, recruit allies, gather equipment, and combat deadly enemies.
In battle, you will have to strategically maneuver your squad, utilize cover, and combine your companions’ skills and unique abilities for deadly effect!
Choosing when to engage your enemies up close and personal and when to pick them off surgically from afar will be critical for gaining the upper-hand.
Your ideological decisions will mark how the rest of the Galaxy perceives you. Make sure to forge strong political alliances early on to ensure your victory in the final confrontation.
You hold the fate of the Galaxy in your hands. Good luck, Captain!

Element: Space features a battle system full of deep strategy:
  • Engage in turn-based combat and real-time exploration.
  • Approach complex, team-based tactics by combining character skills with free-form movement.
  • Outfit your squad from a selection of 32 melee and ranged weapons that allow for different play styles and strategies.
  • Unlock perks and weapons by gaining reputation with the galaxy’s factions.
  • Grow your characters through their unique branching upgrade trees – no two characters are the same!
  • Battle against a wide range of enemy units and squads.
  • Factions’ combat perks combine with their specialist units to challenge the player in different ways throughout the game.

The single-player campaign offers:
  • A fully-realized universe with a detailed and extensive history.
  • Seven explorable factions, each inspired by distinct cultures and traditions, offering their own units, tactics, architectures and perspectives.
  • Eight possible companions, each with their own extensive backstory and narrative arc. Help them achieve their personal goals in order to upgrade their skills and maximize their potential in battle.
  • 24 handcrafted levels, each designed to provide unique combat experiences. No procedural content.
  • A nuanced ideological system that tracks your decisions and actions throughout the game, affecting your reputation with factions, your character roster, and more.
  • Multiple endings – from your reputation with different factions to your relationship with your party, every decision you make will shape the destiny of the galaxy.
  • High replayability. Each playthrough will allow you to see new missions, party-members, and storylines. The wide range of equipment, skills, perks, and companions permits for very different playstyles game to game.
  • Extinction Mode: Hardcore mode for those looking for an extra challenge.
  • 12 to 15 hours of playtime per playthrough.
  • Humor in the style of the action-adventure sci-fi movies you loved in the 80’s and 90’s.

From RPS Article
What sets Element: Space apart is its structure. It’s a shorter but more broadly branching RPG with a political core. Your dialogue options skew towards four political ideologies mapped out on a basic graph. Humanism and Independence are apparently opposites. Autocracy versus Bureaucracy is the other conflict, and each of the seven factions you can meet (all humans, sorry – no weird aliens here) exist somewhere on this grid. Depending where you stand, you can end up taking different missions, recruiting different party members or just pissing off everyone.
Element: Space tactically exits early access today

Element Space is pretty cool so far. For a game that is 1/3rd the price of XCOM, it holds up very favorably in comparison. It's more RPG than XCOM, missions contain multiple battles and you can free walk between them, explore etc... Probably my only complaint is the sound design is very sparse. There is only VO in major cut scenes, not general conversations and outside of a decent so far OST, they're isn't much else going on sound wise.

In scope it would probably compare to stuff like Tastee, Fallen: AP2 Protocol and Falling Skies but it's significantly superior to all those. Easily on the level of Duck-com,

I just noticed an early access game from my wishlist that is currently on sale at 90% off.
I usually add a lot of early access games, to follow their development and track sales, and usually most of these highly discounted games, with barely any reviews, are asset flips with barely any effort, and never go anywhere.

I remember adding this one, and expecting nothing to come out of it.
Well, I'm still not sure what will come out of it, since from what I can see the developer has been working on creating the city map by blocks, and the story content will mostly come out next, but the developer has been updating the game weekly (posting detailed info, screenshots, and videos, despite barely anyone owning the game and checking these updates), so hats off to the developer for his efforts.
And I checked a gameplay video, and it actually looks very ambitious. It obviously isn't a AAA game, but there's a lot of cool touches (for example, you can interact with arcade machines, pinball machines, and more, and actually play a few games in them), so it may be worth the gamble, especially at the current price.

The developer mentioned on the steam forums that a coming sale (which I assume is this one) would be a special opportunity to buy the game, before they set up their final price, so I would guess the game won't be as cheap as it is today for some time.
At the current price (1,67€ in Europe), I'm willing to take a gamble on it. ;)

Some people still defend this mess. I dunno if they're shills or concern trolling at this point.
At least on sites without verification/registration constraints, like Reddit, I assume that a significant portion of the people defending it are absolutely astroturfing accounts run by Epic.

Hey † Echo † , you ready for Gridlock and Mozzie?
Sort of! I'm hoping I can get 180k renown before the new season drops so I can buy my 50 alpha packs lol. Then I gotta use the renown I get afterwards from dupes to buy the Chinese new year skin before it disappears at seasons end.

So kinda in a race against the clock lol.
================

Today I got a smexy new Xbone controller. This one!

It's nice! And some more eneloops to go with it. Now I have 8 and two chargers! Even if I forget to charge one set, I'll have the other!

(This actually happened the other day, which is what prompted me to buy a second Xbone controller and more batteries lol. Since in the brief time I had to use a DS4 again, I really didn't like it.)

New Choose-Your-Own-Adventure title just launched from Early Access

The Ballad Singer is an RPG/Graphic Adventure, set in a fantasy world completely controlled by the player's choices.

We've taken elements from game-books and visual novels to develop a videogame with an unprecedented format. TBS offers a fantasy story yet to be written, where the world changes and reacts to the player's actions. This will allow you to live up to 1700 stories and 40 different endings, your decisions will affect the way the tale unfolds. Every single development and subplot in the story is completely narrated and illustrated, even the smallest ones. In TBS, every choice is crucial.

Features:

  • Four heroes with different narrative developments
  • Asymmetric stories intertwining one to the other
  • During a single run with a character you will never face two fights alike
  • Your choices really matter, you can completely change the fate of the heroes through your decisions
  • Three degrees of challenge: deceive death and repeat mortal choices through powerful artefacts
  • Replayability: only by replaying TBS you will be able to discover the different decisional paths of each hero
  • Domino System: a choice in the first minutes of play could have strong repercussions throughout the course of the adventure
  • Fully narrated story, over 400,000 words and 40 hours of narration
  • More than 700 HD illustrations
  • Over 40 musical tracks
  • 400 different detailed deaths
  • Dying is part of the story, so there is no "Game Over". When a character you're playing as dies, you will play as a new hero, within the same story, in a different narrative path

How many roads are you willing to take?
