Well, good and weird news.

Good news is that tomorrow I should have my computer back, yay!

Weird news is that it was a RAM module all along the cause of the problem and static, I don't understand anything anymore. :|
I didn't get all of your story. Was this audio static? Closest I ever came to that was in a BIOS revision where at certain RAM frequencies my RAM controller was drawing power to the point where my south bridge was losing sufficient power, which directly led to audio static (and instability).

I generally don't pause if 2-3 games in the bundle interest me since I feel like that's value for me. That said past I've been on a discount for the past 3 months so if it had maybe 1-2 games that interested me I wouldn't pause. Also Mafia Definitive Edition seems like value to me.

The discounts it doesn't matter to me since other 3rd party sites already offer deals better than the Choice 20% so I never really end up buying from the Humble Store.

At least now classic plans can just straight up cancel and not have to go through the process of pausing every month to "keep the value".

I guess I'll wait and see how good the next few months are then.
to be fair, there are usually 2-4 games per Humble Choice that interest me enough to already be on my Steam wishlist or for me to add them the problem is that "interest" isn't always enough when my backlog is already enormous and there are currently 3167 games on my wishlist

Question regarding Yakuza series:
So does every game feature a hidden (literally) undeground prize fighting ring, where you during the main plot have to face 3 opponents and become the new champion, all while being totally surprised that such an underground fighting ring exists?

Granted, it happened to Majima i 0 and Kiryu in Kiwami, but still.....

It seems like that. If I remember the hidden fighting arena was available very late game. I was myself surprised that this mini game exists

Regarding the Humble Choice changes, I'll wait and see what they actually offer in terms of permanent games in the first month, but if it's not sufficient and/or not Steam keys I'll unsubscribe. The whole pausing thing seems like it's more trouble than it's worth at this point.

After cancelling subscription of the humble choice, they give you a grace period of 41 days to take your choice back.

So I cancelled the subscription to make a point
Interesting addition. That wasn't there last week when I canceled mine.

One way or another Humble made a bet and we will see how things will go. If I need to guess things will get even worse. Humble is basically trying to compete with GamePass that has giant corporation and it's wallet behind it. And Epic giving away free games is not helping them either. And on top of that they are trying to launch new launcher on the market that is already sick of new launchers.

Honestly I can't see how they will achieve subscriber numbers they want when they are offering worse deal than competition.

and yet they will still blame Valve for their inevitable fail

Well I mean the changes to the bundle don't really mean anything to me, I will still buy them when I think there are enough games I'm interested in for the price, so on that front nothing really changes. We'll just have to see what games the new format brings. Personally I've been happy with the choice selections more often than not, so I'm not really subscribing to the "Choice is so much worse than the Monthly was and this will be worse again" viewpoint.

I've never bothered with the Trove so I don't really care about that and the new launcher as I won't be using that anyway.
The net negative is simply the change to the discount, which realistically just means I'm more likely to shop elsewhere, so that's a bit of a bummer.

EGS free games, Gamepass/EA Play and Twitch Prime, the only saving grace of Humble Choice is that they are Steam keys, if they start moving away from Steam keys they better just, axe the whole thing.

I didn't get the impression the bundled games would stop having steam keys, it would be suicidal if they did it as that's the only thing keeping their business model alive.
Their launcher seems to be a way to "add value" to the subscribers since they'll will dump their games and some others there which you can access while still subscribed, similar to what the Trove used to be but with a DRM layer instead of being DRM free. There's also no indication that a game available in their laucher won't eventually be available in a bundle as a steam key.

As for their competition being Gamepass, I don't think that's a fair comparison since one is a rental service and the other an ownership model and looking at the stats of games released on steam + gamepass there's very few overlap of audiences, people still want to own games on steam in spite of them being available on GP. Comparing them to egs free game extravaganza seems much more appropriate (Swiney making things worse for everyone once again).

Dunno where Humble Bundle will end up... all I know is that I haven't unpaused in a long time, while I bought several bundles on Fanatical that does the same thing without the hassle of a sub, just pick games, pay more but with a better discount if you take a lot.
Their choice selection has just been more interesting to me... and more importantly, cheaper when I don't want a lot of games without all the bullshit that HB is putting us through with the classic plan.

We always talk about it with Steam, but it's not only a matter of game quality for key sellers. It's also a matter of service. And on that point, the new sub model helps.
But the Trove model that I barely used going from DRM free to ANOTHER FUCKING LAUNCHER? This is just burying an already failed system. It needed more games to compete with all the others subs, not that.

.............a friend talked me into buying Monster Hunter Rise. Fuck.

:jj_fool:

Initially I put it off, because I don't have Shadow PC anymore which is how I played MHW. Geforce Now doesn't have support for Capcom titles anymore and I'm thinking there's no way my actual PC can play this. My lil Alienware Alpha R1 from late 2014 is going to struggle die, isn't it? 8 gigs of RAM, 860M variant 2GB card, etc.

proceeds to download the demo
*plays at 1440p at "Average settings" at a mostly smooth ~60fps

wait what

I know it was a Switch game and all, and this is a demo quest so other stuff will probably run a bit worse, but wow, pretty surprising :blobyes:

EDIT: I honestly figured I would need to wait for Steam Deck to release, as that is a significant upgrade for my current PC :crystalblob:

Had my eye on Starsector for a while, but I'm waiting for the steam release
Caught this a bit late but just to let you know in the Sseth video I linked he reveals his actual key for the game at the end of the video.

Since the game is DRM free the key works just fine if you'd like to use it as a sort of demo.

I recently passed the 500 hour mark in Slay the Spire. I'm starting to think it may be a pretty good game. :blobmorning:

I know there are some folks here that play a lot of deckbuilders, and I'm curious: are there any deckbuilders apart from StS that are real standouts? For all the time I've put into Spire, I haven't checked out much else in the genre. I played Monster Train, but most of the other ones I've looked at seemed a bit... lame? I get major "Spire's popular, let's just copy that" vibes from most of them.

Yeah I think that STS is still the top when it comes to deckbuilding games.
Similar but with some twists there's Neoverse. Despite the lewd presentation, I think it's a competent deckbuilder.
Completely different but good is Fights In Tight Spaces.
Lastly, Trials Of Fire is a mix of deckbuilding and tactical gameplay.

I love Fights in Tight Spaces more than Slay the Spire. Crowd control in a 3D space is key. Extremely satisfying to play.
Iris and the Giant has an interesting twist to the genre. Very different in mechanics and RNG plays a bigger role. I like it but wouldn't say I love it.
Couldn't get into Neoverse. I refunded it after trying a bit.

Also, very, very excited towards Marvel Midnight Suns. Looks like an evolution of the genre.

Steam recommended me this a bit ago.

I haven't played it, but it looks massively interesting and the reviews are generally positive. I think it has a demo too?

According to the FAQ, choice keys will no longer be for Steam only, but also for EGS, GoG, Origin etc.

I'm fine with Steam and GoG, but if they start including keys for other storefronts, I'll immediately cancel my subscription.

No not yet, but I was thinking I would give it a try, at some point! Other games keep taking my attention.
I would highly recommend it if you want to try the genre. A few months ago I redeemed a three-month Gamepass subscription for $1 with the intention of trying out as many games as possible but once I got to Slay the Spire I got hooked! I ended up spending two out of three months playing just that one game. If you'd like something more linear with a story campaign I would also recommend Steamworld Quest.
