I'm blind or something? Shouldn't there be an adventure event on Steam ? I do not see it on the store start page.
There is!

Its a bit hidden though...I only know because one of my wishlisted games posted about it

~

If you missed it, Humble + Choice discount has Hitman 3 "Steam Edition" at 20% off (48€) ... which was good enough for me to bite and get the Standard Edition....ah well

Generally a good interview, btw!
Spencer said he’s concerned about tech companies unfamiliar with the gaming industry barging in to the space, as opposed to the current, experienced competition against Nintendo and Sony.

“They have a long history in video games,” he said. “Nintendo’s not going to do anything that damages gaming in the long run because that’s the business they’re in. Sony is the same and I trust them. … Valve’s the same way. When we look at the other big tech competitors for Microsoft: Google has search and Chrome, Amazon has shopping, Facebook has social, all these large-scale consumer businesses. … The discussion we’ve had internally, where those things are important to those other tech companies for how many consumers they reach, gaming can be that for us.

“I think we do have a unique point of view, which is not about how everything has to run on a single device or platform. That’s been the real turning point for us looking at gaming as a consumer opportunity that could have similar impact on Microsoft that some of those other scale consumer businesses do for other big tech competitors. And it’s been great to see the support we’ve had from the company and the board.”

I think this part
Toys for Bob, one of the studios working under the Activision Blizzard banner, successfully launched games like “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time,” but was later folded into supporting Call of Duty games. Spencer said the Xbox team will talk with developers about working on a variety of franchises from the Activision Blizzard vaults.

“We’re hoping that we’ll be able to work with them when the deal closes to make sure we have resources to work on franchises that I love from my childhood, and that the teams really want to get,” Spencer said. “I’m looking forward to these conversations. I really think it’s about adding resources and increasing capability.”
Is, aside from any misgivings we should all have about massive corporate acquisitions in general, the fun part for us:. When the guy behind the biggest buyout in gaming says 'Yeah, we want to dig into the vaults and get people out of the yearly CoD mines.' that's a good sign we may see some of those titles from the ' what game do you want MS to make from dead Actard IP' threads come back.

edit: as Cacher mostly already said :)

RS Extraction is solid. The jury is still out about long term interest, but the core is good. Keep in mind that it is a L4D only in appearance, this is clearly less shooty shooty, more stealth, more lethal. In fact if you told me that it begun development as a coop DLC for Rainbow Six Siege, and that a 'creative' decided to put the sci-fi stuff in for the lulz, I would believe you.

Long term, though ? We will see. First the game seems to suffer from a terminal case of anti-hype, so will it have a future ? Then it's UBI, so yeah, already an overpriced DLC for trivial shit. And, yeah, indeed, it's UBI, so the writing is not as offensive as usual but still can be tropey as fuck on occasion. Special mention to the writer who wrote the cringe af sequence where a tech person ponders about the fact that 'Machines, I get. Machines are logic. But those things...' Tropey land.
But the big unknown is the game very structure. Each run is basically three maps. You can Extract whenever but the more maps and objectives you do, the more XP you gain. BUT the more the game throws shit at you. Interesting but limited, it gives the impression of playing a coop game in some PVP maps you are bound to know by heart.

Not bad though, perfect for Gamepass.

Li Kao PossiblyPudding R6 Extraction this weekend?:D
I hope so, or any other game like Sea of Thieves or Grounded. But if you want to play Extraction, I would highly advise you to not go in blind and do the tutorial, AND to play a little of the game in a one man squad (you do that by selecting a specific destination and not the Quick Play mode).
All this in order to see how... not that the game is too hard, but how things can go pear shaped in the blink of an eye.
I saw several True Gamerz (tm) lament about teammates only doing Map 1 in a run, but I beg to differ. Baby steps. Mission types are badly explained and monsters lethal enough to go slowly but surely.
Or you can do like me, be shit at the game and obstinate. Lose half your roster and play 2-3 hours cautiously just to get everyone out of the fire.

For all these reasons and one single attempt, so it's hardly a rule yet, just a hunch, the game seems particularly ill suited for grouping with randoms. Maybe at higher levels when everyone knows the game, but for me it was Benny Hill vs. Aliens.

Control has been Control'd, with the DLC being done and Raytraced. I'm impressed with the performance it gives using DLSS, it's totally playable even in the bigger rooms that tank performance.

Now I need to just play some other game a bunch to see if downgrading my drivers fixed the hard-locks... It might be driver problems going by the Reliability History thing I discovered yesterday.

Oh shit Le Pertti I would be remiss not to mention The Anacrusis. I know of a certain someone who would love to play it.
Didn't even try it as I'm solo, but I knew it was a very probable candidate to our coop, so if you are interested it's a potential candidate too.

played hitman 3 vr, and it sure isn't half life alyx
and it sure isn't boneworks, and it sure isn't blades and sorcery, and it sure isn't comparable to anything, because i had my hopes up, and right now, i'm raging like nikocado avocado

here's my one and only in-depth review of hitman 3 vr

starting up hitman 3 is shockingly easy to do, but also complicated to do; for oculus link headsets, you could run hitman 3 directly from the link, but it doesn't work; the only way it works (in my case, where i bought it from Epic Games), is to
  • start up both the oculus app and the epic games launcher on your PC, navigate to oculus link on your headset, and then go to the virtual desktop there
  • start up hitman 3 on your desktop, and then select yes to "VR mode", (which pops up automatically if a VR headset connected to the PC), which you have to usually do through your VR headset,
  • but after equipping your VR headset, you then have to take it off because you have to press enter on your desktop to bypass the start screen, as there's no button on the vr controllers that substitute for enter, except if you enter back to oculus link, trigger a virtual keyboard, and use that to press enter so you don't have to disequip your vr headset

the menu screen of hitman 3 vr is pleasant, it works and looks the same as the usual hitman 3 screen, but it works for vr controls, one thing i immediately missed though, was the lack of vr support for missions that aren't main-line, so my first VR mission couldn't be Landslide, a short and easy mission where my original plan was to just snipe him

instead, i started off with Berlin, where my goal was to eliminate 5 former collegues of agent 47, but when i played the mission, i experienced several problems that makes it clear that this "PCVR port" is more like "PSVR but it runs on a PC now and also it has 500 problems"
  1. for the PCVR version, there's no "actual dual hand support"; you can't grab most things with both hands, you can actually interact with objects with only your right hand, your left hand is actually completely useless, and it only functions for movement, as the left joystick is for moving around, and the left grip button (also referred to as the "middle-finger button") is for triggering running, something which is likely a remnant of the PSVR version, where the left dualshock joystick was for movement, and one of the left trigger buttons must have triggered running, which is a shame honestly
and it's not limited to this only, as because your left hand is completely useless, it leads to several problems that you'd usually do with your left hand in a game like hitman 3, like grabbing a body to drag it (which you do automatically with your right hand with the press of a button), and reloading (which is also done by the right hand with the press of a button), and speaking of reloading, this leads us to..
  2. bad gunplay: while reloading is done automatically, which really destroys the immersion, there's an entirely other problem that just demolishes immersion, which is the fact that your left hand automatically clings to two-handed guns if it's close enough, and while this doesn't seem like a problem (as you can't hold things with your left hand), it becomes a problem when your VR instincts come in, as when you hold things in VR, you usually hold them in VR controls, ergo, you automatically press the middle-finger button on your left handed controller, something which is a very bad choice, as for some reason, IO interactive decided to put "run" on that button, so you end up running accidentally if you hold a gun with two hands

other than that, aiming with two handed weapons is very hard, as the weapon usually doesn't go where you want it to go, something in stark contrast to the sniper rifle aiming, where it just loads up a screen with a sniper overlay, the same thing you see if you play hitman 3 normally without a vr headset, which makes it overpowered, but also not realistic as hell, so the only viable types of weapons in the game would be pistols and one handed weapons, but it's still tragic that you can't dual wield them as originally i had hoped
  3. bad melee: usually, in hitman 3, you can knock out a guard in one hit when you have a weapon, either by just hitting him or by throwing it at him, and while those are possible in hitman 3, you can't do it in one hit; you can do it in 8 hits if you beat him down like a high school bully who got his lunch ruined by the main protagonist of the movie, the melee hits, both with a weapon and without, feel very weak and makes it more difficult in the wrong ways

throwing is so-and-so, as while it could be worse, it could be better; you aim where you want to throw with your left hand (by moving it upwards as if you're actually throwing something), and then you throw whatever with your right hand, you can choose to lock in at an enemy to throw something at them, but here's the problem; even after you lock it into an enemy and throw it, there's a chance that you either throw whatever you have backwards, or just not at them at all, rather beside them
  4. weird controls: as said previously with the lack of controls generally on your left hand, and the fact that you run in hitman 3 vr by holding down the middle-finger button on your left controller, there's also a big amount of weird controls generally; you pick up things with your right trigger button instead of the right middle-finger button (like you'd usually do in vr games), the inventory is awkward as when you access it with a button, you can choose to drop an item with the very same button, something which would make a really awkward moment if you accidentally drop a handgun while dressed as a civilian while wishing to close the inventory with the same button you accessed it
  5. agent 47 needs a desperate visit to Specsavers: as everything you see in the game is short sighted, yet it has graphics that are somewhat comparable to half life alyx; for a more accurate desciption, take a picture of a wet alleyway or corridor from half life alyx, make a good part of it blurry and pixelly, and then lower the resolution
  6. bad movement: something to a big surprise, the port decided to do the same as boneworks, and incorporate a type of "full body" view like Boneworks has, so you can see what disguise you have fully, but this is done in the worst possible way, as unlike Boneworks, where your body is connected to the VR headset, and you can move your full body by moving the VR headset, it's the exact opposite with hitman 3; your vr headset is connected to your body, so if you move in real life, agent 47 doesn't move; this makes it impossible to duck in real life, and actually move around in real life, as it'd stretch agent 47's body to inhumane positions, which then makes it harder to sneak around, as the duck is simply too low

  7. misc.: there's also several other points that aren't big enough for their own points: the game has bugs where you need to die or complete a level to go back to the menu, almost absolutely everything is static, when you do parkour of any kind, it just teleports you instead of showing any animations, you can't even do parkour manually like in boneworks, and various other problems

honestly, it's one of the worst pcvr experiences you can have if your mission is to murder people stealthly, but if your intention is to let your mom play so she can simply sightsee the different locations, it's alright (if she can tolerate the bad resolution and short sightedness), which is exactly what i'm planning to do, in which i will post her reaction later in this forum

Playing through Dicey Dungeons. Good stuff. Not the best deckbased roguelike Ive played, but it's fun. Gonna play through the episodes then call it quit. Also called it quit on Ring of Pain, finished both endings. There are a lot fun card roguelikes, just noone is as good as Slay the Spire. Feel like I play them until the ending and then I quit, but Slay the Spire can be played until forever for me.

Uh, why is my Paypal Steam purchase on stand by ? Did that ever happened to any of you ?
The only cause I could see is that I recently changed the source of funds, but then again I'm pretty sure I have already done that in the past and no issue.

Still waiting for anyone to articulate what the hell blockchain/NFT can add to games that isn't just an outlet for speculation and pyramid schemes.
Don't remember where I read it, but someone wrote something like "if your biggest selling point for a game is the transaction technology, then the game itself is bad" and I have to agree.
I mean, this feels like the equivalent of saying "we are developing a game with MongoDB instead of <insert other database here>, be excited!" and like, why should I care, this doesn't mean anything?
What it can add to games is scamming USERS, much in the way kids think they'll become famous on YouTube or TikTok (and thus make free content) and Roblox (and thus make free content), this is a scam to make dumb people spend money (and give free money to the company). It has been found to be somewhat self-promoting as rich people who pour a ton of money in can sometimes make money by manipulating others illegally, committing crimes, etc. And since the company only skims off the top, they're not criminally liable for the crimes of their users.

So yeah there's a lot of incentive for shady corporations (read: all corporations) to establish these manipulative systems so that users can prey on each other.

Never for Steam, and never for credit cards, but I've had banks reject Paypal transactions via debt cards in the past, leading to 'scary' situations.

According to NFT's shills:

It is ANYTHING you want or dream of.
You are buying a Mario hat NFT and use it in Last of Us, ABSOLUTELY!
You are buying a weapon from an ubisoft Game and use it in Minecraft? ABSOLUTELY
You are buying Troy Bakers voice and use it in Undertale? ABSOLUTELY

IT IS EVERYTHING WE DREAM OF! WHY CAN'T ANYONE EXCEPT US SEE THIS????????

Because you are buying a record block in an online database. That's it.
Whatever that record block points to is just cosmetics. You have purchased the record, a serial number effectively, and the fact it's distributed makes it more difficult for someone to steal that record from you. I can bolt the same cosmetic to another record but it's not your record.

TaDaaaaa! there's your ownership. That's what you own. If the endpoint or service goes down then why would any other app care about your record when they didn't pay for it or profit from it?

Why should Ubisoft allow assets from a totally different game from a totally different company in a possibly incompatible format into their own projects? Why would they put that time, money, resources, effort and technical engineering into their games when they could concentrate on those same things into making money for themselves? Maybe in 10 years there will be a solution but i doubt it unless you pay fees for each game that you expect to use "your" NFT in.

There was a twitter thread a week or so ago that went into the legal and technical difficulties of the reality of the cryptobro NFT vision after some rockstar said "People just don't get it" and when people pointed these things out to them they said "Well, of course i meant FUTURE games not now." lol.

I'll need an explanation for this - is this Broken Sword ("Baphomets Fluch" in German)?
Yeah, it's Broken Sword. The first one. I think it's not too far from the beginning. You climb the wall to get into this castle (which also had a really obtuse way of going about it), and then a little later there's this goat iirc. I don't remember the exact solution other than having to look it up (yet again).

I got little black blocks on my screen after reverting my drivers to see if that was the problem. I think I can definitively say my GPU is defective.

How the hell did this thing pass QA? Why do I have to be the guy who gets the one-in-a-million GPU that's fucked from the factory? Aughghgh damn it fuck.

If I want to do an RMA, I'm going to need to have EVGA give me the go-ahead, and also hope that there's stock to do a replacement with. Fucking bullshit.

I remember hearing stories about how that goat was such a hard puzzle, not to brag but I solved it in a few minutes, maybe I had luck :thinking-blob:
Did you play the original or the directors cut? Because the puzzle was simplified in re-releases.

Originally you had to get hit on purpose by the goat then while lying in the floor click the rake to trap the goat. In the re-releases you can just go straight to the rake. It's one of those puzzles where the solution makes you think you're making a mistake so people tend to not butt heads (ha) with it and get stuck, specially since you're halfway through the game and you were never asked to do something like that up to that point.

Never forget

That FUCKING GOAT!

To those asking about the puzzle. In the original it was an awful puzzle because the rules of the game had changed and they didn't tell the player.
Original rule was tell George to do stuff = George does stuff - result.
For the goat puzzle it was tell George to do stuff - wait until partly played out - do more stuff.
That was an ubknown thing for the game and rightly puzzled and pissed people off.

Boooo. I have the apparently very common memory leak in God of War. Great port.... if you ignore that how long you can play depends on how much RAM you have. Us poor folk with just 16 GB.

Still having fun with it, but keeping an eye when the RAM usage goes above 14GB does get annoying.

Well, since I just got my booster shot I will probably be out of commission tomorrow so maybe someone will come up with something for when I go back to playing it (yeah... right ... )

If I remember right, the time window to click on the rake was super small which made it even more frustrating to figure out. And this was pre internet walkthroughs!!!

According to Wikipedia, this puzzle was simplified in the Directors Cut (which I played last year). That explains why I didn't remember this as a difficult puzzle.

I've not played Broken Sword, but I certainly have seen plenty of obscure puzzles where you either have to pixel hunt or combine two things together than make no sense whatsover. A lot of the old LucasArts games I could only finish with help :)

So grabbed Vampire Survivor, at that price, why not.

I like the autofire nature of the game, allowing you to focus on a path. Only unlocked 3 characters, tend to prefer Imelda(?) with the magic missiles. Not keen on the whip or bouncing damage guy. I can survive about 15 minutes on the first zone and 10 on the second.

So far my favourite technique is missile spam, backed up by the books and garlic. Although the garlic does make me a bit over confident at times.

To be honest for just under £2 it is a no brainer.

I really like the knife especially when maxed out and adding a bunch of projectile speed. I can always clear a path and never get cornered. The book is my second favorite item and I am starting to like garlic, but I cannot depend on the garlic as a main damage dealer. I really have not liked the whip since I have to position myself so specifically and I find myself getting cornered.
I love the knife, evolving it turns it into god damn minigun!

Took me a few more days! TioChuck
You can have your "clear a path" and "minigun", I'll take my "aura of death" :p The whip isn't doing a whole lot here at first but later on it helps keep stuff from getting inside the book bubble a lot.
