No need (appreciated, though)
I‘m well aware of our OT frequentation issues. And that I may be an outlier in liking this hobby. And there are perfectly fine threads about it next door. But the thing is, fam are here so I will post my shit here.

"I hate any and all videogames, and I hate myself for making talking about them my job."

This really is the behaviour of someone who needs to take a long break from games.
I stopped watching their content a good while back on the combo of so many half truths around Steam (and I blame a big part of the negative view that Steam had a few years ago as being "filled with trash" to having originally stemmed from Jim) and their relentless negativity.

I've been trying to play less games of late and to respect my time a lot more, particularly since the pandemic, as I saw then that too much of my habits wrt games as being fuelled by hype, FOMO, and backlog clearing behaviour. And ultimately it made me enjoy games less as so little was impressing me.
Instead I rediscovered anime last year and I'm actually enjoying more of my free time (no I'm not saying this just to wind lashman up)

My point is I've seen it before, and it's clearly really bad here with Jim. It's the behaviour of someone who has spent so much time dedicated to a single hobby at the expense of much else, and particularly here focusing near exclusively on the negative side. They need to take a long break.

With what some of you are saying about RE8 being so good im very tempted to pick it up but it feels like its too bright outside to play a gloomey game - not that i would rather be outside, more like the glare off of my tv makes it hard to see dark scenes.

about WOW TBC

heeey...TBC was great. In my memory anyway. I started playing WoW in January 2007, a bit after TBC came out.
I thought questing was OK in TBC already. It was a pain in Classic, however. It was super hard to do 1-58, but then it became much more enjoyable once I was able to go to Outland at level 58.
Of course it got better with LK still. I've played all expansions since: they usually are quite nice to play to max. level but then its all about getting gear, doing dungeons and raids (or pvp, I guess)... and its all very gated, and the story is told over two years...so I'll usually drop it and jump back in before the next expansion hits with new systems, and when everything is in place, catch-up mechnics bring you up to speed, etc. So, basically, I play it for a while every two years. In between I'll drop in every now and then to level some alts, collect some stuff.

BTW Dungeon finder was added during LK, but weather happened in Classic already.

about Jim Sterling

Yeah I stopped watching Jim a long while back because of the constant negativity. I agree, Jim needs a break from video gaming, most probably.

You should consider blackout curtains, I bought some a while back, and I'm almost always in the dark now no matter the time, and I live in Brazil.

I don't remember much from TBC questing. It was gogogogogo fast to get ready for raiding.
The only thing I can clearly remember was when we were stuck on a quest and had to contact a GM. The GM was patient but only told us that the Quest was working as intended and that there was no bug. That we should read the quest text again.
There we were, 5 battle-hardened raiders stuck on a puny quest.
...Until we were told to read the quest text AGAIN, AND check our gear. ... ... ... We needed to equip something to see the objective...

I still blame myself for Blizzards deep dive into casualization of the quest system. Surely they changed that after we were stuck on that quest. :loudly-crying-face:

Man, it's so expensive everywhere. Even the sites that usually have pre-orders for around 150 PLN are at 200 and above. No way I'm buying it at that price sadly, even though I like the series.

On another note, I started Prey (2017) yesterday. Only ~1.5 hours in so far, but it really grabbed me and I absolutely love the semi-open world design and immersive sim approach. They nailed the System Shock vibes, which makes me hopeful that:
1. There will be a sequel sometime in the future or simply another game from Arkane in a similar vein.
2. That the System Shock Remake which I backed on KS will end up good.

Prey is a terrific game. At the start of the covid lockdown i think i did 2 or 3 playthroughs of it back to back. Loads of different ways to get through the game.

Sterling is usually on point but they just beat the dead horse too much. How many times can you make a video about videogame industry bad.

Yeah, Prey (2017 -- good that it seems like the phase where every other publisher thought was cool to reuse game names entirely unmodified seems to be winding down) is easily one of my top 10 single player games from the past decade. They did an amazing job of creating a setting and gameplay that mesh extremely well with each other and work hand-in-hand.

I think the rules goes if there hasnt been an entry in a series for X years, you have to start without a number again. However much "X years" is, seems to vary by developer. ;P

(But yes, Prey 2017 was pretty great)

Humble has Plague Tale for 9€ if you're a subscriber. Considering getting it but knowing my luck it'll end up in a bundle in a couple of months...
Do it. :evilblob: For the greater good. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

I hate myself for making talking about them my job.
They need to take a long break.
I am not sure they can, because of the risk of losing Patreon revenue (12,000 € per month). That is the issue with this kind of job: you start by doing what you like ; then you get traction and your user-base expects specific content from you ; you end up forced to create what is expected even if it is not fun for you anymore.

Instead I rediscovered anime last year and I'm actually enjoying more of my free time (no I'm not saying this just to wind @lashman up)

For Nier Automata specifically the difficulties does not alter items and experience right?

Like hard buffs item drop rate and experience gain type of thing?

Also is there a disable all media including pictures yet? Meta is slow on mobile.

I'm starting to notice the drawback of laptops again. As in, having to rely on the manufacturer to provide updated drivers that adhere to all the specific things related to their build. For instance, if I use up-to-date nvidia drivers, CEMU won't even recognize my graphics card. I have to use drivers from December 2020, shipped by Asus in April for it to work.

I wonder what the difference in performance and basic functions is between manufacturer drivers and nvidia's. I get the impression it's just better bookkeeping with windows.

I agree, unfortunately the negativity is what the bulk of the audience expect and i think it's gone on too long down that one track. For sure Jim has a lot of good points but i think they're backed into a corner now and have to decide to continue doing something they increasingly hate or cover something new that they are positive about and take the viewer hit. I've watched fewer shows as it's become obvious that the good things that come about from Jim's coverage are forgotten or trampled a few months later and the shows are just not healthy for Jim and i've read lots of sympathetic fans who feel the same.

I'd rather Jim gave the game industry coverage a break and covered something they are passionate and positive about for a few months and although the audience hit will be big i think it'll be better for Jim's health and state of mind in the long term to get rid of the negativity seekers and angry people and hopefully find a new audience. Jim can always come back to shine a spotlight on the cockroaches in the industry later, they're not going anywhere but Jim's done their bit, they deserve a break and to recharge their energy.

edit: regarding posting a link to Li Kao's Miniature Painting thread in the Anime Figurines thread i just thought there'd be a common interest in modelling and painting in that thread but i didn't mean to step on any toes and yeah i think the people reading the Anime Figurines thread will see the Mini Painting thread in Meta anyway.

That is very odd. Are you sure it's not just an issue with CEMU? As far as I know, most gaming/high-end laptops don't require you to install their manufacturer's GPU drivers. They're always out of date and some manufacturers will even explicitly tell you to download the Nvidia drivers. You are free to (and should) use them. I've owned two gaming laptops, and never once had to ever rely on OEM drivers, aside from the BIOS.

To be honest, I don't think there are any "true" OEM Nvidia drivers. They all rely on Nvidia anyway. They're probably just providing a link to the most stable version of the driver that works with their machine, even if it's outdated by months/years.
