Microsoft, why?
It's possibly, maybe, supposedly coming together with a bunch of enhancements to the nerfed Taskbar in October... 2022.
No promises though.

My plan was always to wait at least 6 months before thinking about turning stuff on in my BIOS and maybe sidegrading to Windows 11.
I ain't beta testing it for MS though so i;m not moving over any time soon.

I was seeing the Far Cry 6 ads and it’s says “A Ubisoft Original “

am I failing at English but shouldn’t it be “An Ubisoft Original”?
Yeah, people have been saying this for months 😂

my understanding is that for brand names using “a“ is fine?

ehhhh, it's a tough one but as a native "An Ubisoft Original" sounds odd where "A Ubisoft Original" sounds better and is easier to say.
It's tricky but both are acceptable nowadays and i suppose it depends on how it is used in a sentence and whether it's part of a Brand or not.
oh, as AHA-Lambda said.

edit: i say "Youbisoft" and "Ooobisoft" interchangably but i always say "Youbiquitous" on the rare occasion i use the word.

You pronounce "u" with a consonant at start "ju" or something like that. Hence "A Ubisoft Original" is correct

edit: But how do you pronounce ubisoft??

edit2:
I think you are correct.

Use A before words such as "European" or "university" which sound like they start with a consonant even if the first letter is a vowel. Also use A before letters and numbers which sound like they begin with a consonant, such as "U", "J", "1" or "9". Remember, it is the sound not the spelling which is important. For example, "1" is spelled O-N-E; however, it is pronounced "won" like it starts with a "W".

Finally finished Cold Steel IV, including the true ending. I don't get why it's so unpopular, it's actually my favorite of the 4 and slightly improved my opinion of the CS arc as whole.
I admit it's a bit of a relief to be done with this saga, it was a massive time sink (turbo mode was an absolute godsend), but strangely I'm looking forward to the next entry now while lately I was actually feeling burned out. I guess that after spending so much time with these characters the ending kinda hit me in the feels.
I don't think it's unpopular as much as it's really divisive. CS3 was probably the high point of CS for me but I still ended up disliking CS4 and CS as a whole. A lot of my complaints are about stuff that added up over the course of 4 really fucking long and bloated games and not just about CS4 specifically.

Literally everything is centered around Rean, the most generic light novel protagonist. The way the curse was handled and all the harem hijinx. The retcons. The cast is absolutely bloated, and even after 4 games most of them feel underdeveloped and uninteresting. Even the returning characters from Sky and Crossbell barely felt like themselves and most of their scenes seemed to exist just to fellate Rean even further. The civil war that had been hyped since 3rd/Crossbell falls completely flat with no significant consequences or casualties. The way Falcom writes about war in general is really juvenile and all the dark things/deaths only seem to happen in flashbacks.

With that said, I'm still looking forward to the next game(s) because nothing really scratches the same itch as Trails.
I just hope CS was the low point of Falcom's writing and things get better from here.

I give up on A / An, it fucking triggers me on a daily basis but I'm not sure I understand myself.
I was operating on the basis of An before a vowel OR what sounds like a vowel.

But it seems even more confusing.

Mmh, actually it doesn't contradict the Ubisoft thingy. But I still seem to not fully grasp the full enchilada.

Sort of a cross-post. Just food for thought.

I mentioned before that Steam could dust off their achievement system. Adding global and per game settings to disable achievements entirely, notification w/ sound, notification w/o sound, no notification (though still earn in the background). Change where the notification is displayed. They could also add options to automatically take a screenshot when an achievement is unlocked. Use custom or developer achievement sounds and/or notifications (i.e. a developer could add a spooky sound for a horror game or Steam could allow the notification box to be modified in ways like color/font/etc.).

I think it's a safe bet Ring of Pain won't be in this month's Humble Choice.
Did Game Pass already have Destiny 2 ? The xpac being there is a huge money save for the people that still play the game.

Sure, I agree with all that, but maybe because my expectations were low it ended on a better note for me than I thought it would. I've been very critical of CS since the first game and honestly the entire arc has very little that is salvegeable, they're all mediocre games. CS4's final act just resonated a bit more with me for some reason. I don't regret playing through the saga which I was convinced would be the case in the end so that's something.

Super Monkey Ball BM is cute. Gonna take my time playing it but will mainly focus on reaching goal posts in each level. The extra stuff I don't really need to do 🤷‍♂️

Same, when I see videos about them I’m like ‘how was I supposed to know you can do that’
The Hitman 2016 series allow you to explore which is how you find out various ways of taking down targets and other paths.
You don't have to do all of them if you don't want to. The gameplay is pretty basic and simple: Take out a target without getting spotted and if need be destroy any form of (electronic) evidence of Agent 47 being there. Sometimes you discover stuff by sheer luck like finding the cameras data center in Sapienza.

Take your time in Hitman 2016 and play it at your own pace.

This is correct, but you also need to consider words that start with vowels, but are actually pronounced with a starting consonant: unicorn in English is pronounced "yunicorn", so it's "a unicorn", not "an unicorn".

Bear in mind that a lot of difficulty with English comes from the fact that it's full of words that originate from other languages from the many invasions in the past or ones we liked that we started using and many of them seem to break gramatical/spelling or pronunciation rules.

90% of Brits don't care and just pick up the language as we go along.

Le Pertti Exactly, i.e. "He was riding on an 'orse." ;)

I understand now. Like, it would be 'a hyena' and not 'an hyena'. Because of the consonant.

That being said, now I'm tripping on the detail ! In your example, isn't 'YOU' the way people pronounce 'U' in English ? So it's written with a vowel, sounds like you pronounce the vowel... but is considered starting with a consonant.
I think the U disturbs me more than other vowels.

Edit : oh fuck the horse thing :sweaty-blob:
AN honour, but A horse ? What's the fucking explanation here ?

Li Kao Many Brits drop the H from nouns when speaking, it's different when written. Don't worry about it, lol
Actually, we "drop the aitch" when speaking for a lot of words i just realised.

If only, but seemingly no one at Valve cares about achievements. I think I mentioned it before but the new points shop would be perfect for achievement sounds, toast frames and whatever else.

What I'm getting from this discussion is that I should just give up trying to write a/an in the correct manner.

Specially because "y" when used in works like "you" sound like our "i" (Portuguese) and if I search "is Y a vowel" I get the answer: maybe

I'ma need y'all sad folks to stop wasting your braincells on the purile English language, and acknowledge that the Super Monkey Ball series, while cute and neat is in actuality a physics game played in stages designed like this

Lets look at some Swedish homonyms for fun! 😃

Val = choice
Val = whale
Val = election

Fluga = fly (insect)
Fluga = bow tie

Får = may
Får = sheep
Får = get

And lets end with the classic sentence:

"Får får får? Nej får får inte får. Får får lamm!"

Fun fact we don't have spelling competition here because everyone can spell, and reason for that is because words here are spelled as they are written. Each letter has just one phoneme. So it is considered to be ideal phonemic orthography XD And that is why my language would kinda be perfect for virtual assistants if somebody would be brave enough to make it XD
