Gerry Dugan's X-Men run is quite good, and Pepe Larraz's art is spectacular.
It's main a group of X-Men going about in superhero adventures and for once, the X-men are liked!
It's mainly a Jean led series with each member of the team getting a spotlight in an issue from what I've seen but it's been great fun.
Line up is:

Momo is looking good, I think despite him being a crybaby Oda did a good job with his character, he's only 8, and his dad was just killed several months ago for him and the scabbards, and was traumatized, Oden was a beast when he was a kid because the dude was just built different, but Momo still confronted a Yonko at the age of 8 and helped the future pirate king. Dude will have a lot time to grow too.

I'm surprised he was able to squeeze in so much in a chapter, green bull looks like a beast and that power seems terrifying, the kaido commanders look like chumps even though they might still be wounded. So Pluton is on Wano, I've seen people making guesses but rarely Wano because most of them thought it resided on Alabasta and all theories revolved around uranus instead. Curious where this will go since we know something happened with Vivi there in reverie. A really good chapter before a long deserved break.

Been checking out some of the new series that are starting again.
My absolute favorite by a country mile is Ruri Dragon. It's fan-fucking-tastic.

Thanks for the reminder. I was meant to grab this set when it first released. Started reading 2000AD around issue 400 (came with a Dune sticker album). It has been something I always go back to. Currently playing catch up on the last 4 to 5 years of isses (so about 250 to go).
If you don't know 2000AD or only know it from Dredd (or the abysmal Stalone movie) then here are some recomendations from the set
Zenith by Grant Morrison & Steve Yeowell (still miss his artwork), Zenith is a superhero story (rare for 2000AD) that works as both Lovecraftian Horror and a deconstruction of Super Heroes. Works almost like a prototype for some of the stuff he would do for DC later on.
The Balad of Halo Jones - Alan Moore & Ian Gibson. Worth it for the Ian Gibson artwork alone. But Alan Moore created a great female protagonist. Unfortunately incomplete as an overall storry as the plan was to do 9 volumes covering her teenage life to an old woman. Alan Moore being Alan Moore he had a falling out with editorial staff and left writing for 2000AD. However don't let that put you off. Each story is more or less self contained with only the charactisation carrying through.
Scarlet Traces - Ian Edington & D'Israeli. A "Sequel" to War of the Worlds. The British beat the Aliens. They managed to reverse engineer the Alien tech and are now a world super power dominating the rest of the world. Yet there is a price to pay for this. The north of England is now a poluted wasteland. Scotland barely exists. This is still ongoing and what starts out as a detective story with a back drop of Alien Tech becomes something so much bigger.
Insurrection - Dan Abnett & Colin Macneil. Dan Abnet was given the remit of writing a 40K style story in the Dredd univers and that is as great as it sounds. Oh and has great artwork by the great Colin Macneil.
Judge Dredd: America - John Wagner & Colin Macneil. Don't let the name fool you. Dredd is barely in this but when he is, it is effective. This is a look at what it is like to be a citizen in the Big Meg and fighting for Democracy against a totalatarian state. It is a very brutal depiction of the Judge system, the cost of liberty for protection. For something written back in 1990 it still has relevance today.
There are plenty of others in there worthy of your time as well like the Case Files 1-5, although I would start reading it from the Cursed Earth saga in the second volume, but it covers some classic old stories. Absolum is a fun supernatural series. Think the Sweeney blended in with a horror series. Age of the Wolf is a fun series if a little throwaway.
All in all this is a pretty good collection with not too much to be disappointed in.

Yup, I just checked. So either they stopped doing the digital version or more probably a dumb delay between physical and digital (last one is #38 in digital)

Hmm, yeah, not really. 800 or so issues is very relatively recent.
I tend to use their own store as they are DRM free purchases and a choice of CBR or PDF on the website. But I do use their app for reading on a tablet.
Was just off to the 2000AD website to grab the digital version of Leviathan (an excellent read and a one off story, Titanic type vessel goes missing into another dimension 10 years on the crew and passengers aren't doing too well).
Anyway, noticed a link to an animation that Mashed did based on another comic from 2000AD called Absolom. Well worth a watch, especially as it's only about 6 minutes long as well. I will warn you the language is very British and a little bit bloody. But overall very faithful to the comic and hope they do more.

However what I really want to reread is Outlanders. I used to love that series so much. Unfortunately the licence expired a long time ago. I used to have the complete run, but sold it on a long time ago. One of those things I regret now, like selling on my copies of Akira that where published by Epic Comics.

Another 2000AD bundle. Pretty good one at that. Contains:-
Nikolai Dante - Starts as a fun swashbukling future series. Develops into so much more. Looks to be the complete series.
Judge Dredd: Endgame - Appears to be the end of Endgame. This was one of the more recent big events. Completely decimating the Big Meg. From what I have read the effects of this event are still being felt somewhere in the region of 10 years on (Dredd is technicly told in realtime).
Slaine: - A celtic Conan the Barbarian. Well if you go by the book versions at any rate. A mix of Fantasy and Cthulhu esk gods. Very enjoyable and still running to this day with a very old Slaine.
Brink: - Great Sci-Fi series with a side of Cosmic Horror.
Caballistics Inc Complete Collection:- Urban Horror series set in London about a group fighting Demons in the London Underworld and so much more. Leads to....
Absalom:- A cokney policeman in the vein of the Sweeney. Well if the criminals happened to be Demons, Werewolves and Vampires. Believe this collects the entire series. Also watch the video I posted above to get a rough feel of the series.
Devlin Waugh:- What happens if you cross Arnold Swarzeneger and Noel Coward. You get Devlin Waugh. This one is set in the same universe and timeline as Judge Dredd.
There may be the odd bad story but overall a great collection of books.

Joking asides I only just found out that this series ended earlier this year. I have been reading it over the years ever since I watched the anime back in 2015 or something. There is the "movies", which I think are a total of 6 episodes. Then you have the anime which I think was 12 episodes and then you also have the manga. Even though they are roughly the same thing the events do not play out the same in all three of them. The 12 episode one has by far one of my all time favorite mecha fight scenes. I really dislike mecha series were they are flying all over the place and stuff, so relatively speaking I like how these feel more grounded even though they use "magic"
Eva 2.0 aslo has that one really cool scene were they are running and jumping. Gundam Thunderbolt is also pretty hype.
I shall have a free rein of the thread before the One Piece / Chainsaw Man readers gets wise.

First up is Gideon Falls, this has been collected into 2 big deluxe editions which is the recommended way to read it.
Book 1 is pretty much horror, while Book 2
is about stopping the horror that is unleashed

Recommend getting the deluxe edition if possible since the series starts slow and this collects the first 3 books which lets have a better pacing once one is done going through it. There's nice camradire going between Erica and the cast and from book 4 onwards, the pacing gets better.

And Sakamoto I tried but it was too much on the jokey no plot side of things (though I left early).

Dandadan took the theme of Occult and aliens/sci fi and wnet for a simple fun adventure romp, while also doing a good job for building the relationship between the two main characters
You gotta vibe with the family man retired assassain dad. He took on the peaceful life: A happy loving wife and child and a clam chill lifestyle
But the assassin world, they just had to bring him back in. Now he gotta do what he can do
for FAMILY
While I enjoy Dandadan, it doesn't grip me. I still need to grab the most recent books.
Sakamoto Days on the other hand I really enjoy. And where I am up to does start doing fullblown story arcs.
Rereading One Piece at the moment, stopped around Dresarossa arc, been enjoying it a lot. Now admittedly I started at Alabasta and skipped the Skypiea and Thriller Bark stuff. But the world building is great. I didn't realise how soon the idea that Luffy has Haki was so early. I only ever remember it being during the Marineford arc.
Also, seeing as it is spooky season and we are recommending books, I can highly recommend The Wake by Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy.

I really liked / loved the first ten chapters of Smoking behind the Supermarket with you, but alas once I realized there would probably be little to no development in the narrative, that it's again a series that wears it's core concept on its sleeve and there is nothing else, I admit I was less enthusiastic.
I recently read Ponkotsu Ponko and really enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a lighthearted comedy, about a retiree and his outdated housekeeping robot maid.

I don't think you need to worry about that. Combat in the manga exists, certainly. However, it is never the main focus.
The battles in the manga were rather short, but Frieren isn't a Mary Sue either, since her skills are cultivated over her long lifespan. Definitely look forward to the first of the longer story arc in Volume 2 where she got her moniker.

Been reading yokohama kaidashi kikou recently.
It's a post apocalyptic story that features none of the usual story beats for that type of genre. There are no roaming bike gangs, no mutants, no epic battles. Instead it seems that the decline of the world has been accepted. Instead it focus' on an android named Alpha and simply tells a slice of life type story. It's one of those stories that nothing really happens in it, yet I just find it captivating. There is an air of melancholy around the stories as it shows a world slowly succumbing to rising tides. Yet there is beauty there, the artstyle is great.
I have found recently that I have come to enjoy these slower paced manga titles. Things like Yuru Camp (anime is great as well) actually makes me regret I have never done camping.
I have also really enjoyed Bofuri (more a light novel/anime than the manga as that is quite far behind). Being set in a virtual reality game (that hasn't gone horribly wrong for a change) there are no real stakes to it. It's just kind of cute and kind of fun.
Finally got through the Wano arc in One Piece. Absolutely loved my time with it, but it probably could have done with some Judicious pruning. Have to say that it still has some of the best World Builidng in it. Loved some of the revelations around the world government in there. And the final battle that must have been maybe an hour took almost a year to tell is just hilarious to me.
What I do need to do is go back and finish reading off the Immortal Hulk. That was a great horror take on the Hulk, got about halfway through the run and stopped reading for some reason.
I also need to catch up with 2000AD. I think I am only about 6 years behind at the moment. Although it doesn't help that it is a weekly comic.
So anybody got any recommendations in a similar vain to Yuru Camp or Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou?

I recently got over my fomo about starting 2000ad now, and I’m already late by 6 issues. Sure there is the predictable problem of being presented series that have seen multiple releases over the years, but I didn’t plan for the selection to be so hit or miss for me. Which, yeah, is kinda obvious.
So yeah Dredd is nice, sure the parody of fantasy by Abnett is a great surprise, but fuu the rest is a snooze fest at best, and complete shit in the case of the Deathworld story.
Oh, and that must have been in the Megazine, I am okay with pre-publication of series but I admit offering the first part of some older material and then going ‘buy the volume for the rest’ took me by surprise. And not in a good way.

Yeah, depending on the storyline, 2000AD can be hit and miss. Fortunately it's more hit than miss for me. Deathworld is an unusual one as I believe it is built up on a lot of previous stories. It has a lot of back history with the Judge Death stuff and then a few other spin offs.

I believe there has been some new Durham Red stuff, but not sure if it is connected to the last set of stories (again Dan Abnett) or if it is a reboot/set bag in the Strontium Dog days.

If you haven't read them yet Nikolai Dante is a lot of fun and then it gets into war stories, really cool but a little bit more serious.
To be honest, looking at the above, I think I mainly read 2000AD for Dan Abnett stuff and Dredd.

and thank you for the genre title. There is another I have been enjoying that kind of fits, Bofuri. Just finished the most recent light novel for it. While an action type series, being set in a vr with no disasters around it, the stakes aren’t that high. Also enjoy Killing Slimes and Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, but need to catch up on that.
