Facebook hasn't clamped down on Quest mods and sideloaded apps, so I imagine they would probably also want to keep a hands off approach on this too?

As far as Rift S vs Quest, I had a lot of internal debate about that as well AHA-Lambda but I'm glad I went Quest. The loss of 8hz is a fine tradeoff for being able to play wirelessly imo. The other specs are about the same so it's really just about if you think you'll use it wirelessly or not. If you think you'll only ever be doing PCVR then go Rift S of course.

Granted I've never used a Rift S so it could just be a "you don't know what you are missing" thing but I really dig the device. It's pretty cool that my wife can play Beat Saber in the living room and then if I want to hook it up to my PC and play a SteamVR game I can with just one cable connection (one less than the Rift S fwiw).

Speaking of Beat Saber, just to make sure, you can add custom songs with the Steam version right ? At least with the current version.

Do you plan to acquire other studios? What else are you doing to accelerate VR?
We’re exploring many ways to accelerate VR, and we think next year is going to be an incredible one of VR game launches and announcements. We are thrilled to have Beat Games join our team. This is just the beginning.

New Explore VR trailer, friend told me they don't plan to port this to PC ever at the moment, sadly.
this sure sounds like a fucking threat ...
Most of the studios Oculus contracted in the past didn't even do VR games before, hope they bring in great talent like Insomniac Sony took away from PC VR.

There are now more opinion pieces coming out favouring the Rift S over the Quest for PC gaming and it's making the choice between the two all the more difficult :anguished-face:

Hmm, wireless options vs increased fidelity
I'm currently on a preaching spree, showing VR to everybody willing to listen for 15 minutes. I'm the equivalent of a VR jehovah wittiness, so to speak. But BatmanVR and SteamLab make it relatively easy. My newest victim is my gaming obsessed neighbor (willing victim) and he bought a Quest for himself and his family. Long story short: I had the chance to try out the Quest yesterday.
Keep in mind, I'm probably not 100% objective here and first off: The Quest is good. Being portable is a huge advantage, the controls work too, manual IPD switch will be important for many people and the reason why they won't be able to get the Rift S in the first place.
But, believe it or not, image quality is better on the Rift S. I know, true blacks, higher resolution, two displays, oled. It doesn't make sense, but the screen door effect is worse on the Quest, especially when directly comparing it to the Rift S (switching from one to the other). Quest is better than CV1 or PSVR though (not a direct comparison, just how I remember CV1 and PSVR).

My tip (Rfit S owner, keep that in mind):
If portability is more of a gimmick to you and you plan to mainly play with the Headset connected to your PC anyway: Get the Rift S.
Strange recommendation, because you are limiting your options and as said, the quest is also great.
I just think the games look better on the Rift S when played through a PC. Before making my decision I've read that the new update for the quest will make the S obsolete for PC gamers and no, I can't agree. Maybe a new Rift Quest S2, or whatever they are planning.

I can see Facebook aiming for Sanzaru Games (Agard's Wrath), Ready at Dawn (Lone Echo, Echo VR). Which, I mean, isn't all that awful, it's like Sony acquiring Insomniac and MS acquiring Playground.

For the index base stations: I can stand them up or mount them? Or would I need to buy a separate stand accessory?
Is there any benefit to mounting vs stand, or purely preference?

Less than an hour and a half left now, maybe 15 mins earlier for a Firewall: Zero Hour PSVR preshow.

This game has potential.

Also another big No Man's Sky update with some VR specific improvements included.
Features have been unified across VR and non-VR. Photo Mode and Creature Riding are now available in all versions of the game.

It's like, right above you.

Editing in real time so I don't keep spamming :p

Down the Rabbit Hole looks super cute :)

After the Fall looks like a promising Arizona Sunshine successor too, or maybe more like L4D?

The Quest version of an existing PC racing game, Radial G, looks like a full demake but given the very different cartoony look I could easily prefer it, ha,

Note that's not actually the first footage, that was this video here.

The Quest port of A Fisherman's Tale looks good too.

Spaceteam looks nice.

Low Fi as awesome as ever (and I'm as curious if they'll ever get it done or not, fingers crossed).

Crunch Element again (I think it was this same video), woo!

Yes, Phantom! Looks like it's developing nicely!

Ned Stark simulator (Sentenced VR) looks neat.

Next Pixel Ripped looks good too.

Budget Cuts 2, woo!

Retro FPS Theta Legion could be good, it looks a lot like Compound.

Lol Vive Cosmos.

Space Channel VR looks alright, we'll see if it can stand up to current rhythm games.

Solaris: Off World Combat from the Firewall: Zero Hour developers could be good.

Eclipse: Edge of Light could be a good adventure.

More Decent PSVR and other Quest stuff and ports intersected throughout.

For as much as some people would have you believe VR didn't take off, I find myself frequently amazed by how many titles are released and announced. This VR Showcase has already shown me quite a few I had not heard about. And I frequently run across a few in this thread.

No single show can ever hold all the cool VR stuff of course. Case in point.

Yea, it looks like that game! We'll see if they make something compelling, polished where it counts and different enough :)

Rise from the ashes. Build, manage, and lead your mercenary army though large scale battles and ruthless quests.

Epic Battles
Engage in intense 100 man battles. Survive enemy ambushes in your travels. Participate in frantic arena battles. Choose from a variety of contracts to earn resources to expand your mercenary army.

Full Freedom
Build your army from the ground up. Every soldier you lead is hand picked and personalized by you. Purchase them equipment, train them, set their skills. The composition of your army is completely up to you.

Advanced AI
Troops in Free Company VR are not mindless drones. They will hold vantage points, surround the enemy, and alert others of threats.

I am thinking of getting an Index and selling or passing on my Vive.
One thing I personally do not like about the Vive is the comfort wearing it. While it is not bad I would not say it is great..
Reading about the Index it seems that the comfort was greatly improved. Does somebody have personal experience with both headsets and can comment on this?

The Deluxe Audio Strap went a long way to improving the comfort on the HTC Vive. I also have a launch-day model. I know they reduced the weight a little at some point. I haven't tried the Valve Index yet though. I'm curious how it compares.

I totally forgot about the Deluxe Audio Strap. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I made a mistake. The Quest was 50 € off on French Amazon, but I thought I could get it a bit cheaper if I wait a day or too. Now the deal is gone and the headset is still 450 € all over Mainland Europe...

Ta much, I think I'll go for the Rift S then.

Seemingly better visual quality, slightly cheaper, and I'd rarely use the portability I think anyway as that would be tied to games only from the oculus store.

Index has been delivered, now I'll need to buy and download some games to try this week-end :dmcblob:
No matter what you do, take it easy. Do not rush into games with a lot of motion (like lone echo, sprint vector). Try to deal with more "static" games first, if you feel uncomfortable stop for the day. Something like Batm... 5 bucks...

Now excuse me, I see myself out before people ban me for recommending the same stuff over and over again.
Have fun.

I'll probably try the free stuff from Valve first, then something else. I do intend to buy the Batman game and I'm checking the sale to see what else could be interesting.
I already have Arizona Sunshine and other VR games in my library thanks to Greenmangaming and their Intel games promotions, I might download one of them as well.

I don't intend to play anything like races or those rhythmic games, I can barely tolerate them with on a TV/monitor :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

Index sold out and according to Reddit Oculus Servers are overloaded and people can't create new accounts.
But HL:Alyx will not increase the adoption rate, impossible.

Weird :p

I added more of the individually released holiday showcase videos in that post (pixel ripped, radial-g, eclipse: edge of light), they're not "new" stuff to repost.

Still missing some you can only find in the showcase video (down the rabbit hole, low-fi, sentenced vr, pistol whip new content and after the fall among others).

Not sure if this was part of it or just the launch trailer for the Quest port itself though:

More indies working with physics stuff. This looks pretty early obviously, not as good as boneworks or nimso ny's stuff yet, but some promising things already.

The Oculus Black Friday Sale is bad.
Just overpriced, strangely put together bundles that cost between 50€ and 122€.

Why?

It really is dreadful - I was looking to buy Lone Echo but I'm not buying a crappy bundle to get a bunch of games I'd rather own on Steam (Moss and Superhot VR) plus a few I don't even want.

Honestly, I feel like over the past year or two an answer to that question has become more and more apparent: because most companies don't seem to have the first idea on how to do online game distribution well.

I mean, you'd think that things like "your downloads and installs should work and continue working" (hello Windows store!), or "have deals which are appealing to customers' individual preferences" (hello Oculus!), or "have a fucking shopping cart and other bare essentials" (hello Tim!) should be self-evident after they have been demonstrated by e.g. Steam and GoG for over a decade, but apparently it's very hard.

Yeah if you ever see a ~10 off deal on Oculus store for a 1st party game you want jump on it cos it aint getting better. Glad I jumped on the last Lone Echo sale. At least their "lower tier" games start at decent pricing by default at ~30 but they would be better 10 off too. 40 isn't bad for their higher tier games but pending personal preferences clearly that doesn't apply universally either, that it's a game they invested more in doesn't mean it has more value to users. Like the Marvel game, Sanzaru's last, that thing has no right to be full price like that as just another arena shooter but license etc probably means it sold decently at one point and reinforced their idea that it's worth that much so they go all Nintendo-like and keep the games at full price or close. Some times third party games are a little cheaper on the Oculus store too (usually when not on sale on Steam yet obviously). But I still go Steam. Last Labyrinth is 5 EUR cheaper atm. It will probably go on a deep Steam sale sooner/deeper than on the Oculus store eventually I imagine.

Also those bundles aren't the only thing on sale, just Oculus own special or whatever. They have more stuff on sale, check the actual store "on sale" category.

Onward for example is 23 EUR on Steam and like half price on Oculus atm. It's cross-play but I'm not sure how/if you can add Steam users to Oculus friends.

google gives me nothing (i don't count that wikipedia page since it only lists a handful of those games)
