My Quest 3S has arrived, finally. It was a bit delayed so Amazon refunded me the shipping costs which was nice, that means I got it even cheaper than locally.
The unboxing experience was pretty great and high end premium product like, though it seems to lack any kind of start/setup leaflet, I didn't even know what's the power button or if I should charge it before turning it on etc., still it was pretty painless to get it going after all except when logging in with Facebook account and even requiring a phone at some steps (beyond allowing the new sign in device), like why? Anyway, it feels like a premium product and I like the box doubling as a storage base for when you aren't playing, it's really neat. Beyond that, the viewing experience screen wise is better than the CV1 I last had, as it was much lower resolution despite being OLED. I suppose it's not crystal clear and sharp but it's more than fine unless the given app/game runs in even lower than "native" resolution which makes it a jagfest but I'm sure that's the case on any VR device.
The foam padding seems better than CV1 but I'm sure I'll get a third party replacement cover later and try to avoid sweating while playing until then, lol. The interface/OS is pretty nice but they really should bundle something like the original CV1 "first contact" as "fist encounters" made to pimp mixed reality potential was just meh, bland and unexciting in comparison, though the room scanning and such was pretty smooth and cool.
The bundled Batman seems polished but I was unimpressed tbh, combat is kind of weird, rigid and gesture-like and the scale of everything seems a bit off to me, including slightly oversized hands and the height of objects and scale of rooms/locations. Maybe it's the cartoony art style, I dunno.
I'll probably give PC VR an attempt though I'm sure my wi-fi isn't good enough for that and then look up how to sideload things like RTCW, Half-Life, Doom 3 etc. VR mods that run in stand alone. I'll get Metro after I'm done with Batman cos a friend worked hard on that and otherwise Idk what's next, lol, I splurged a bit too much so I will have to stick to the freebies for a bit. I'll also need a decent link cable if wi-fi PC VR proves as bad as I imagine for me so that I can play all my current VR stuff as I have most of them on Steam instead so even if they're stand alone too I don't have them.
Edit: I remembered I had a few games on the Oculus PC app that weren't available on Steam, most were PC only but some were crossbuy so I'm downloading Lies Beneath now but Journey of the Gods is not even showing up when searching, what's going on with that? I own it, give it to me even if it's delisted!
I've also confirmed Air Link doesn't work for shit on my set up, lol, it was lag city, I couldn't do anything at all.
