|OT| This is the Anime Thread, Darling~~

From what I read of the manga, should be a good anime. One of the better Beserk Clones.

Also.

I have enjoyed what I have read of the manga, although still playing catch up.

Several months ago, animelogist* everywhere praised Dandadan and I must admit, my first thought was this anime would be yet another JJK situation. Praised to hell and back, but something I don't rate very highly. Average, even. Still, I'm willing to give it a fair go, so I downloaded the first episode and watched it.

I was wrong.

This anime is peak and I will be watching.

From what I heard it's from the assistant of the mangaka behind Chainsaw man. It seems that him and a saw wave of new mangaka are having some rather out there ideas. Compared to other Shonen manga, Chainsaw man is definitely out there and doesn't really fit with typically Shonen shoes, where the MC is either selfless and cares about helping his friends. It does sort of fall similar to some other stuff from the past like the 90s and early 2000s. For other niche shows, but they were never at this scale though.

I have to find out the name of the other assistant and the mangaka that they went on to create. After all the Chainsaw man mangaka is rather unhinged based off that one youtube video he posted of himself ages ago.

oh lol, that explains everything .... CSM has been great past few chapters too
Chainsaw man is good but right now I feel that the series works better when you binge it. These past 20+ chapters it doesn't feel like a lot happens but when it does it's fast and barely makes sense. The earlier chapters had a better flow to them, but that could be since I binge read them and was not reading it week to week.

Also I watched DanDandan and I like it. Is it amazing? I'm not sure about that but it is enjoyable. And the characters so far do have a dynamic that feels a bit more refreshing.

This year is the year I got back into anime in a big way.

Only went the cinema 3 times this year and all 3 of them where for anime.

Gundam Seed - Decent enough movie, not a big fan of that particular series but watching robots go boom on the big screen was a lot of fun.

Overlord movie - Fairly decent movie as well. But there was nothing really there to justify it being a movie instead of in the series. Also they seem to have skimped out on some of the fights. From what I can make out they crammed 2 light novels into a 2 hour movie.

Solo Levelling - Now this was partly a recap movie. Fun watching it, especially watching the final fight on the big screen. But the real reason to go was to see the first 2 episodes of the next season on the big screen. If you enjoyed the first season you will like this one as well. Plus the budget seems to have been boosted.

Next year I am hoping to see The Eminence in Shadow movie. Not sure why this particular arc was made into a movie as there is more than enough material to do another series.

Rewatched Bofuri (another one that has gone into my rewatch list like Girls Und Panzer). Hoping a season 3 gets announced soon. Looking forward to seeing the current event being animated, spread across 2 volumes as well.

The wait for Girls Und Panzer Das Finale part 4 is killing me at the moment.

Having a weird period of some highly acclaimed series not hitting lately

I watched half of Dandadan and honestly I just don’t get the fuss for it

Right now though I’m watching Frieren (7 eps in) and it’s just fine so far? Solid but nothing special?
I understand what it’s going for thematically but it’s not really resonating
Giving it more than a fair shot before dropping it but may do so soon

Lately I've been getting to more animu watching than usual, so here's a couple thoughts:

Mecha Ude: Mechanical Arms

This was pretty dope. A fast-paced action-packed show that feels a bit old-shool in its vibes, but it was a blast. Also, sick action.

Re:ZERO Season 3

Not much to say. It's more Re:ZERO and continues to be very good. I'm certainly looking forward to season 4!

Hitori no Shita - The Outcast Season 1

I'd started this a while ago and left halfway, but finally picked it up again to see it through. It's entertaining enough, but nothing special. I'm mainly watching it cause I've heard later seasons are supposed to have incredible action animation and I'm looking forward to that.

Solo Leveling Season 2

Ended today so I started binging it yesterday :P
Great popcorn entertainment. The story is pretty straightforward (though there was one scene that actual made me tear up), but it's just an audiovisual feast with incredible action scenes, and just all around really entertaining and easy to watch.

Going through To Be Hero X right now and it's really, really good.

I'm on episode 8 and the stories are good and animation killer (it switches between many different styles).

The new Digimon anime (Digimon Beatbreak) also had a really good start.

Seems to potentially be more plot-heavy instead of episodes (but we'll have to see).

So random thoughts on some anime I have watched (not so) recently.

Solo Levelling. While I enjoy the series a lot, it is also one of the most over rated titles to enter anime in a long time. I know it is a power fantasy, but something like One Punch Man at least has the decency to give other characters a chance to shine, nope not in Solo Levelling. It is all just hype and no real substance.

Shangrila Froniter. One of my favourite series at the moment. So much so that I went and bought all the manga I could after completing the second season. It revolves around Sunraku who usually plays Kusoge type games in VR (it's a 5 minutes into the future type series). After completing his latest game he is recommended to play a new MMO game, the SLF of the title. In it he finds a God Tier game. The reason I enjoy it so much is that not only does it appear the creator is a gamer and understands how mechanics work and they work consistantly in the series but the world of the game is so well done that sometimes you forget this about games and get carried away with the fantasy world. Plus this isn't a solo power fantasy (well too much) there are plenty of supporting characters and they all have a role to play.

May I Ask One Final Thing. I haven't watched to much in the way of "Villainess" type series and I am not even sure if this is one. But god I love this show. It is so much fun watching Scarlett beating the crap out of the latest object of her hatred. And it even has a stance on slavery that isn't icky (I am looking at you Shield Hero) and even has the balls to suggest it is bad, something you would think is an easy statement to make.

Ranma 1/2. It's Ranma, if you liked Ranma previously you wiil like this, if you like the works of Rumiko Takahashi, you will like this. While I would have liked it if they had kept Happosai out of the series, I understand why he is still there. Just wish it was a character type we could move away from.

Sakamoto Days. I need to catch up on this. My recommendation would be to read the manga. The anime is good, but it does not have the quality the manga deserves. Plus the issue I have is that the early chapters of the manga are a bit hit and miss. It isn't until the main story line kicks in does it get good. It's a similar thing with Chainsaw Man, while the early chapters are good, the story doesn't really kick in till a few volumes in and truly gets great when you hit the Rezze story arc.

Frieren. While trying to avoid recency bias, I think this is one of my favourite series in anime and getting up their across all of the types of Media (still not enough to topple the discworld). I am not sure if it is an age thing, but it kind of makes me sad that I never travelled more, that I never quite got to know some people better before they passed away (and this even goes for somebody who I still consider my best friend). It just seems to balance humour, action, drama, meloncholy so perfectly. Can not wait for the second series.

I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince.... (stupid long ass name). FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO!!!!. I believe I may have been put on a watch list just for even thinking of watching this one. I just feel dirty in my soul for thinking about it.

Tojima Wants to Be A Kamen Rider. This is insane, but in a good way. Only 2 episodes in and so far we have had emotional flashbacks on 2 of the characters which seem to come down to the trauma that adults have cause their children. Oh and there is a great action series in there as well. Plus it is funny and wierd and wonderful.
