Looking back, it is safe to say that a lot happened in gaming in 2025. Good things. Bad things. Good videogames. Bad videogames. Nevertheless, 2026 is right around the corner, and it is time, again, for you to tell us what you are looking forward to play next year!

Don't delay again, ok?

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

I'm a coward who seldom plays horror games. But being a return of an old classic, Fatal Frame 2 seems too good to miss.

Tales of Remaster

I have a good feeling that we will finally get a pre-PS3 era Tales of game in 2026. I don't have a particular preference, anything is welcome!
There has to be a ton of 2026 games that I don't know yet. So, what are yours?

The writer of Hotel Dusk is on this, so I’m going to give it a try. Little disappointed they’ve sandpapered the Hitler references, especially since it became clear the game wasn’t glorifying him or Naziism at all. But I don’t think it will remove anything from the game and everyone is going to know who the dictator is.

I have been putting off starting Yakuza 3 as part of my Like A Dragon series playthrough, but now a Kiwami version has been announced I’m going to jump in feet first when it releases in a couple of months.

Give me Punished Leon roundhouse kicking zombies and other monsters, or give me death. I was pretty lukewarm on this title until horror gaming’s favourite himbo was announced as the second playable character.

The demo of this pleasantly surprised me. I was a bit down when I found out Pragmata was a heavy-feeling shooter, but the dashing and hacking mechanics give the game a pace that I find appealing. Excited to try this one in April.

The delay to mid-year is disappointing, but I trust IOI to deliver a 007 immersive sim.

To me, this is obviously Danganronpa 4 disguised as 2x2. Expecting some great mind fuck moments from this game (with the new scenario taking place post-DR3 and the original taking place where it’s supposed to), effectively giving you two games in one.

I’m suspending my disbelief that this game will release in 2026 and being incredibly hopeful.

The Expanse, both the book series and the TV series, means a lot to me. So I have a ton of time for a video game story of this series.

Control is an amazing action game and blew the doors off Remedy’s shared universe. So of course I’m excited for the sequel!

Puzzles in space is an itch I need scratching every now and then, and this game will do that.

I’m not sure I’ll like this, but I want to support Sukeban for giving me my all time favourite cyberpunk bartending simulator.

I am down for some murder mystery games, especially ones as visually striking as ShelfLife.

This game will make me learn the Gen Z stare.

The Beach Episode game was actually not a spin off, but the latest game in the series. I expect this game to close things off and put the series to rest. And I will cry.

I’ve been craving a cozy game. Is this it?

Suda51’s latest game looks absolutely insane. Sometimes his games are janky in a way I can’t wrap my head around, but I think I “get” this one.

These are the most interesting to me with a tentative 2026 release date:

Will get these almost without a second thought unless there are very good reasons to wait:
Resident Evil Requiem
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Will likely get these:
I Need To Go
Music Power Up
Nivalis
Ontos
Super Citycon

Will keep an eye on these and check reviews:
Astrobotanica
Control Resonant
Crimson Desert
Esothe
Haunted Lands
Liminal Point
Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth
Outbound
Replaced
The Heirloom
There Are No Ghosts at the Grand
Will: Follow The Light
Witchbrook
Witchspire
Wonderfall

These are without a release date, here's hoping they might come out in 2026:
Phantom Hellcat
Tides of Annihilation
Showa American Story
When Sirens Fall Silent
Sleight of Hand
Directorate Novitiate
Spine - This is Gun Fu
Hear Tell of Hauntings
No Law
The Crimson Maid

In comparison, my 2025 list and what happened to those games (in the previous years, I also did a look-back):
AI Limit • Played it for some hours, lost interest at some point. Not bad though.
Atomfall • got this in the Steam Sale now; will play at some point
Avowed • didnt get it
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 • Played it for a while, lost interest at some point.
Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream • Played it for a while, lost interest at some point.
Eternal Strands • Played it for a little bit, lost interest quickly
Holstin • this was on my 2025 list, has no release date currently
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II • didn't get it, but can play it via Steam Family... did not do that for more than a little bit, however.
Mafia: The Old Country • Playing it right now
Mandragora • Played it for some hours, lost interest at some point. Not bad though.
Nivalis • this has been on my 2024 and 2025 lists already... its now on my 2026 list.
Old Skies • played it, finished it, was a good game.
Phantom Hellcat • this has been on my 2023 and 2024 lists already, still doesn't have a release date
Spine - This is Gun Fu • still waiting for it. Doesn't have a release date.
Showa American Story • this has been on my 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 lists already. I dont think it has a release date, but I put it onto my 2026 list anyways
Sleight of Hand • this was on my 2025 list, has no release date currently
The Last of Us Part II • played it, finished it. Liked it a lot, like the first game.
The Outer Worlds 2 • got it in the Steam Sale now; will play it soon.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers • Played it for a while, lost interest at some point.

I have to say that, this year, nothing came to my mind immediately without looking at my Steam wishlist.
With help from that, here are my picks:
  • PRAGMATA - I didn't even have this one on my radar until I randomly played the demo. It just feels so traditionally gamey in a good way.
  • EDEN.schemata(); - This still looks intriguing. Could also be a total bust, but I'm willing to give it a try.
  • Tearscape - A top-down GBA-Zelda-like with co-op. That's enough to get me really interested.
  • MIO: Memories in Orbit - I had this on my list last year already, but it slipped. Probably won't play it at release (still a bit Metroidvania'd out), but looking forward to playing it eventually.
I thought about adding Solasta II, but it's only releasing in early access in 2026 and I don't actually play early access games, so that seems inappropriate.
I think I'm more of a late-access gamer :P

Here's what I had on my list for 2025, and what happened with it:
  • Nightreign: put 147 hours into it and had an amazing time with it. It's not really a Soulslike, at least to me, but it is an awesome rougelike co-op action game.
  • Avowed: looking forward to playing that in 2026.
  • Silksong: I probably put this on the last 3 threads or so, but I can no longer take that easy way out. That said, I absolutely loved most of this, and it's in my top 5 Metroidvanias of all time.
  • MIO: I joked around in the last thread about this being "a cool looking Metroidvania that actually has a chance of releasing", but Silksong did release and this one did not so joke's on me.

I have many 2026 games in my Steam wishlist so there are multiple titles in which I'm interested
But if I had to point one thing I'm "anticipating/interested in", well 2026 is the 35th anniversary of SRW. There was a new game in 2025 so it's unlikely there will be another new one, however Bamco seems to be good with remasters and rereleases lately and Y jp's url is "34.suparobo", and that 34 is suspicious to say the least

The obvious one for me is GTA 6 of course. The next Tomb Raider is the most interesting game for me from the recent bunch of game announcements. And I have a lot of games on my Steam wishlist that are scheduled for 2026. But honestly, I have no faith in anything releasing on time/as scheduled anymore. Some folks mentioned Nivalis in this thread and I went and looked it up... I've had it wishlisted since May 2021 and it was supposedly 'almost finished' years ago but has been delayed at least 4 times. Witchbrook has been wishlisted since 2022 and I think it was due to release at the end of this year and got delayed indefinitely, yet again. It's gotten to the point where I can't even remember why I added many games to my wishlist.

So as a general rule I don't think it's worth thinking much about games that are more than a month or two out. One exception to this rule is games that are due in Februrary or March in any year... those are usually scheduled to release before financial year results so you can be reasonably confident they'll come out on time, whether or not the game is actually ready/fit for release.

I'm kind of interested in Pathologic 3 which is a few weeks out. I bought the Dynasty Warriors Origins DLC because I loved that game last year so more of that will be welcome. I'll check out the upcoming Animal Crossing update and the Pokemon Animal Crossing type game. I'm sure I'll be surprised by a few releases I don't even know of right now but otherwise I don't see the point of looking much further ahead.

If you don't finish Hundred Line and Trails through Daybreak in 2026, I'll get your account banned from this forum btw.
