Well, the Dota show was good but... a mixed bag. Overall, I can't help feel too much happens in too tight a timeline, in too few episodes. I do love the emotional maturity of a lot of the cast and the voice acting is divine, but it still fails to have enough gravitas at the proper moments.

The invoker's child's death was a pretty big gut punch, as was the pod's massacre. Still, I feel like the show killed way too freely and if not for Mir's animator's amazing talent there, death is very close to being cheapened.

I watched...

Combatants Will Be Dispatched! #1 - I was right, never follow my whims ! :loudly-crying-face:
Employee of an evil corp is sent on an alternate earth to conquer it, with the help of a little girl / android / tactical adviser. Unfortunately for them it seems a local evil overlord is already in the process of conquering the world. The duo will obviously abuse people‘s trust to further their agenda. Worth noting, everyone seem to be as rotten as them.

Tired tropes ahoy with the pervy protag and abusive little android girl. After FLCL and SSSS Gridman this feels far lower budget, with barely moving characters talking a lot. Juvenile.

Mars Red #1 - Alt history mixing an early 1900 Japan dominating the west and vampires (and a lot of time spent on the theater play ‘Salome’ in the case of this episode).
Too slow to say for sure. That could be good, that could keep being just slow. Has some potential but again, oof, it’s no the best paced of shows.

I have watched the first episode of "Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life!". It's written by the author of Cautious Hero, so it's also an unconventional isekai. I haven't read the original novel but it's a really fun start.

I also checked the VA yesterday. Surprised to see that one of the main girls is voiced by Fairuz Ai. So if you want to hear her performance before JoJo Part 6, this is the show you are looking for.

It is, yeah. But that wait! I need to know though chances are, it being Evangelion means people will love or hate it and any intrinsic quality is going to be hard to discuss.

Should I watch all of Gundam or stick to the movies when they are available ?
I mean, that's a lot of episodes :sweaty-blob:
But it really depends on the quality of the movies.

Or just watch the last series ? I'm a completionist but Lord...

You can't be a completionist when it comes to gundam. Besides, all they have in common are more or less the factions, and a loose timeline. I'd recommend watching the remakes, The Origin to begin with :).

Been a while since I checked in here.

I've been enjoying those light-hearted isekais so I've caught up on Slime isekai and Spider isekai. Still slowly working my way through my Gintama rewatch.

As for this season the ones that I'm looking forward to (that aren't a sequel):

Way of the House Husband (Gokushufudou)
Streaming on Netflix this is a comedy about a legendary yakuza figure who disappeared and resurfaces as a house husband and the misunderstandings he encounters. I've read the manga and enjoyed it so looking forward to picking this one up.

Tokyo Revengers
The premise seems cool. I get a Erased + Delinquents vibe from it. The manga is popular and has won a few awards so I'll probably watch this one as well.

Obligatory fuck Harmony Gold with every fibre of my being.

I'd rather pay an exorbitant amount of money to import the Blu-rays instead.

Tomorrow is the premiere of Zombieland Saga S2. Should be fun.

Time for me to shill the "Saga Jihen" cover from S1 by several of Hololive's best singers again. :flare_smirk:

Hopefully S2 will use better 3D Tech during the music scenes

So after suggesting Gundam The Origin to Li Kao, I resumed my watching of it at Ep5 and... Holy crap. This show had no right being this good. The characterization, the politics, the fights where anything humanoid doesn't just steamroll everything else and minor character actually have stories... This is the next best thing to Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

If you enjoyed that, consider giving the manga a read. Comic Walker website has the first 30 chapters available to read for free. As I mentioned in the art thread, Yasuhiko's art is phenomenal.

Three episodes of Vivy have aired and the VA of main character, Tanezaki Atsumi, is one of my favorites, but I still haven't watched it lol. This season is great. Lots of interesting show.
86? whats that?

i really need to research whats airing
There you go.
I just watched the trailer and this looks right up my alley
On the list it goes~
The staff did a few "don't tell, show it" moments in episode 1 which are really good in my book. I hope you will enjoy it.

I likely will. But I'll probably only start watching when it's closer to the end of the season.
Don't want to follow too much stuff weekly~

And I've resumed my Kamen Rider Ryuki watch and it got its hooks into me. :steam_pigblanket:

Checking in again to say that this manga is amazing. The art, the pacing, the coloring, they are all so great. It is a true continuation to the OAVs and I am having a blast. Side 7 too.

Since I’m a big fan of Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga I hoped for a good anime adaptation. The anime turned out great and ended well

Now, is there any good new spring anime?

Just checking the Gundam wikipedia page is anxiety inducing.
So many episodes :sweaty-blob:

Thinking about watching everything, god help me.

Hard to say with only a handful of first episodes. Mars Red and 86 were glorified intros just to name a few. More or less the same for Tokyo Revengers. And Combatants is certainly not good enough to be called good spring anime.

Dynazenon and Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 3!
Have not checked out anything else yet.

If you haven't checked them out yet during last season, Back Arrow and I'm a Spider, So What? are still ongoing and also really good.
My expectations for Back Arrow were "enjoyable pop-corn mech entertainment", and it kinda is.... but it's also legit good somehow.
And Spider is one of the legit interesting isekais.

I'm almost shocked by how well the TWEWY anime manages to adapt the games style.
I'm also a bit shocked by how bad the last fight was directed.

While the OVAs goes to great length to give Casval a much-needed characterisation, the manga actually depicts Amuro's inner struggle as well. The stark contrast between Casval's purpose in life and Amuro's sheltered early life is quite interesting, something that the original series only mentioned in passing.

It is time ! For my take on what I watched yesterday, of relative interest as I didn't watch anime seriously for years.

Combatants 2
I liked it better than the first one, but that could really just be lowered expectations. Still juvenile, still pervy protag. Oh, it seemingly was the pantsu episode.

Tokyo Revengers 1

Nice. In what measure it will differentiate itself from Erased remains to be seen. The core concept looks very similar at first glance. I won't be able to judge, because I ashamedly didn't watch further than Erased 1. The whole youth gang angle is certainly interesting and there will surely be some dark moments with it.
You have to watch the full episode to have a glimpse of what the series will be about, which was a recurring trend yesterday for me. At least this one is a little more clear on what to expect.

86 1

Yeah, talk about glorified intros. Third time after Mars Red and Tokyo Revengers (in a smaller capacity) where you finish the episode and say 'but the series just started now'.
Could be great ! Could just be solid. Could be shit. It just began. I'm optimistic though, it doesn't seem bad at all.

SSSS Gridman 5

Ok, this was great. Like as great as the other episodes. It is a routine now, a routine of greatness...
...
SSSS Gridman 6
Wait what ?
The show mysteries are starting to be cleared up. Not sure I like the explanation, will have to see where it leads. A little nitpick about the character who is used to explain the lore. She is great, but talk about a deus ex machina from hell ! Basically, 'I have come to clarify things for you since one of my ancestor had a debt toward you. Ok, thx, bye.' :sweaty-blob:
I'm nitpicking but guess what ?
It was great.

I really look forward to that then. The original series... is a little unwatchable at this point and I'd really like to finally know the storyline that started it all.

Well it definitely has its fair share of comedic moments and is generally just very very entertaining, but overall it is very story-focused and has plenty of action, mystery and serious moments.

Still very, very, veryyyyy slow paced. It was basically the 'Intoducing the team' episode. A beautiful anime which seemingly tries for something a little 'mature'. That it achieves its goal or remains a pretentious attempt remains to be seen.
But I like it enough. More, please.

I just stumbled upon the League shorts and even the first I've seen had no right being this good, let alone with this mix of 2D and 3D animation.

Now I want to watch Sword of the Stranger again.
