I wish Tetris Effect had profile stuff. So much opportunity there :loudly-crying-face:

I'm playing Quake Enhanced as well but something is off with the controls. I'm even getting motion sickness because of it. :(
I had something similar. Like fokkusu said, disabling the in-game vsync helped. I also enabled fast sync and low latency mode via Nvidia control panel, and that pretty much solved my issues.

I remember the developers said something in favour of EGS, but at least they should be releasing the game on steam on day 1. The original is a very good game so I recommend it to everyone.

Did you guys turn on texture smoothing in Quake? It was off for me by default, I was going to try turning it on to see how it looks but forgot.

System Shock classic or enhanced edition ?
(not that I will play it, I'm in my fill the ssd phase :confounded-face:)
((but I genuinely would like to know !))
I wouldn't bother with the classic versions of both SS1 and SS2.
The real question is if SS1 is even playable nowadays. It's a real PC game from the mid-90s with all the good and bad that comes with it.

Cultic demo was good :coffee-blob:

Now what to play next ?

By the way, kudos to me for first trying a demo of an unfinished game that only leaves me wanting more of it.
Are there games comparable in feel to Cultic ? As in throwback to old times but with some modern sensibilities ? Like it feels like 1997 but don't play like 1997.

I'm hovering between Hedon and HROT, because obviously all these complete games are lacking something.
Or maybe
I'm stupid

I'd go with the enhanced version. It sticks very close to the original experience but adds modern niceties like mouse look (that's how old SS1 was, before the use of the mouse to look around in a 3D world was well understood), re mappable controls and it works better with higher resolutions.

I'd say so, but I also love all kinds of immersive sim games, and SS1 is essentially the common ancestor of all of them. Very rough, but to me it's still a very addicting and great game. Really looking forward to the remake, as it could add things like better atmosphere and immersion. From what I understand, NightDive isn't changing too much about the overall game mechanics and the levels.

Jeesus, playing Hedon after Cultic was not a good idea. I may have to give it another try because it is indeed a more adventury feeling fps, but meh.

SS2 is perfectly fine. I played the GOG version recently (on Linux no less).

Is there already a broadcast I can watch now?
First day ended already, second day starts later.
It's Facebook.

I mean, play with feathers, you'll get your arse tickled
Pretty much this, top reasons of not using anything Oculus.
Blocking everything Facebook and not ever using, is sure way to look like weird bot account,
in whatever metrics they use for their autobanning.
And same as all big companies, it's impossible to get human (re)review unless you happen to make shit storm somehow or know someone from inside who can raise issue.

I'm thinking of getting an Oculus Quest 2, but only for connecting it with Steam and using it for VR games from there. Will just create a bullshit Facebook account with a disposable email address.
Even if that account gets somehow banned, can just create a new one.

they specifically said they will ban accounts like that ... so, dunno if it's worth the risk

Are you playing those games on their "original" engines or are you using source port engines?
If you don't like the original feel of those games then track down the Source-Port engines as they will give the games a more modern feel that you may prefer.

I tried ss 1 enhanced ages ago and promptly gave up after around an hour
SS2 enhanced was a sheer delight in comparison that didn’t bother me at all

Also, White Owls took my money today via Kickstarter, It's Happening!
There's also an update saying they were able to afford EN voice Actors so the game now has JP & EN voices. They posted a video and it's great.
Lots of regional british accents to drive the haters insane. I love 'em though. Can't wait to get my steam code.

Accounts like what? If I give a normal sounding, but random name, I'm not sure why Facebook would care. And even if they did, as I'm not interested in buying games off of Oculus, there's literally no reason I couldn't create a new account every other month.

From what i've read there is a higher chance of New Facebook accounts being banned when people are setting up their headsets. Most of the bans i've read about appear to be people who are new to Facebook and have recently created an account so they can use the Quest 2. Pick a real sounding name, get it verified properly and you'll probably be okay, otherwise you'll have to raise a support ticket. The good news is that if your new account is banned then you can get it reinstated quickly with your Quest serial number...

However, due to that lots of people with previously banned FB accounts are now buying Oculus Headsets, contacting FB support, quoting their serial number, getting their old account unbanned and selling the headset.

You probably won't get banned, they still happen rarely but most of the bans were around launch when whatever bot they had running in the background was new. Thus endeth my knowledge of both Facebook and Oculus.

I just played two demos for now, so the engine thing was not a factor.
I don't know a thing about retro fps engines, so this will be fun. Or not :thinking-blob:

Though yeah, after giving another chance to Hedon I could see it was made with GZDoom. This shit makes Retroarch initial config look like baby first setup.

It feels low risk to me, as I am not interested in their ecosystem at all, so as long as banning an account doesn't literally brick your headset permanently, I feel there's no huge risk in trying to set a new one.

As far as i know, you just factory reset the headset and can attach it to a new account but you lose any purchases, settings etc on the old account and i don't know if there's a time-based limitation or count or whatever for re-registration before they decide something dodgy is going on. I'd just create an account now, get it verified so it's not brand new when you get the headset and you should be okay.

Not a bad idea. I think I'll do that. Now to think of the most stereotypically Austrian name.

I believe the grandaddy of all immersive sims is ultima underworld but I agree with your sentiment that SS1 has a special something about it, it's even better than SS2 in some places but it's very clumky, is clearly showing it's age and the fact most of it's systems weren't perfectly formed and still in an experimental age.

SS2 is perfectly fine. I played the GOG version recently (on Linux no less).
I was talking about SS1 in particular, that's the one that's hard to play and "get into" these days. There's a reason it's hardly ever spoken of.
SS2 remains one of the greatest games ever made.

TIL Windows Store tracks playtime! :peekphotoblob:
I think it's part of their achievement system, so it's only for the "native" games. Now, for some reason I can only see this playtime when looking at the achievements in the web xbox profile instead of the apps.

And as a eerie (if obvious) sidenote, I can also see the list of all the games I played regardless of launcher/platform (just without achievements and no playtime tracking). Thanks gamebar! :p

Does one need to watch it on Twitch, or is there a Steam broadcast?
What master Madjoki said plus if I'm not wrong with timezones the next stream should start in 30m and it might be this link Steam Community :: bethesdasteamstream :: Broadcast

I was wrong, no idea when the Steam stream will start sorry. It's on live on Twitch tho so no idea why not on Steam

Would fit the pattern. Smart publishers like to put stuff on EGS that they expect to fail to meet expectations. (I narrow it down to "smart" primarily because S-E exists)
The minds behind Square Enix's decisions are so smart it caused an overflow and it went back to zero. Us mere mortals cannot comprehend the machinations behind repeatedly acting against their interests, it's all a game of 5D chess with stakes beyond our meagre existence.

Does the updated version of Quake still contain all the files necessary to use source ports?

I'm always spooked by these big updates to older titles. Just waiting for the day they change the format on everything and break the ways I usually play them. I wish Steam made it possible to play older versions of games without needing to jump through 50 hoops.
