I wish I had checked here before buying the bundle. It's still worth it (sort of, maybe, not really) but why the hell did they sneak in an Origin key?? Origin has been deprecated for at least a year and it's shutting down in a couple of months and they're still giving out those keys? EA you stupid bastards

EDIT: And guess what, the webpage to redeem the key isn't working. Garbage till the day it dies. And all for a game that didn't even justify it's existence in this world.

Has Pharaoh actually become a game Total War people like? It was kind of shit on when it came out so IDK if it's in a good place these days or not.
They improved it a lot, but it's still one of the lesser games in the series, unless you've already played all others to death, you're still better served with those

How it started (for our friends at Icon Era):
I didn't know that site do I took a look at the first two threads. I couldn't stop laughing when reading the comments: "Steam has no exclusives but shitty indies". "PC is truly dying because FF7 sold more on Playstation". "PC gamers will pirate it anyway". I had to double check the dates of these comments, but they are actually posted in 2025 instead of 2005.

Oh and I took humble choice for Trepang 2 and Total War. It seems the Dynasty version is actually very good. For immortals of aveum, I need to find the password for my EA account somewhere. ;)

Does the game require AVX2 or RT or anything PCs that could run the original don't have? Including raw power, I don't think it was too smooth for me last time, if it's like 2x as demanding then I probably shouldn't even try it. I liked the original well enough though it's no Gothic and I can't remember the story at all so I'd have preferred some new character (or creator if I'm gonna be in it mostly for the wandering on my terms and not following/shaping a specific dude's path).
Tried KCII myself then, it seems to run ok at Low settings, even Ultra except some spots got down to 20 fps, I'll go with Medium and see if that's alright, it looks fine (even Low does except the lod). I'll try the intro siege bit again, that went down to 30fps even Low. Wow, 7 years since the first already. I should try it again, I remember performance being similar but if it's been that long, perhaps I didn't have my 1080 just yet at the time. I'm pretty sure I finished it though. Idk, lol.

Tested this with two different sets of settings. Frame Gen was used for both tests. The average frame rate doesn't differ very much, but the first test had some major hitching when the camera would change. This was completely gone in the second test.

4K, DLSS Quality, Ultra preset w/ RT On:

Max settings, Ray Tracing off, native resolution. Didn't see it dip below 60 FPS.

Max settings, Ray Tracing High, native resolution. Had some dips into the mid 50s during the lighting storm section.

Max settings, Ray Tracing High, DLSS Quality.

I'll probably run with DLSS, but I hope Capcom adds DLSS 4 at some point because it was a teensy bit fuzzy looking, especially with the skybox.

After forcing DLSS4 preset K, the skybox still has the fuzzy effect when clearing up but the shimmering on the lightning struck stones and the purple crystals at the end is way reduced than the default DLSS3. Comes with an fps hit as expected, but it's probably lesser or not at all on 4/5 series cards.

DLSS4

Watch persona 6 still not have full voice acting despite the series being big now. I mean they cheaped out hard with metaphor but you could maybe give them an excuse that it's a new IP.

And I don't think it's fair to still judge yakuza from the standard that it used to almost not get localized. That was like over 10 years ago now. The reality is they gained a small boost in sales from going multiplat but now they've hit a wall again where every entry seems to max out at 2m sales (we don't even know if 8 reached that yet).
And here I am, telling everyone who wants to listen, or not,
that you don't need to voice act every minor line
that you don't need to make a half-minute introduction to the scenery showing rolling hills, swaying grass fields, a lone hut in the wilderness, a fully motion-captured and voice-acted 5-minute scene
for the dude from the side quest to tell you he needs 17 bear ball droppings.
that casts half a million dollars.

FOR ME:
Final Fantasy lost the WOW! factor when everything was indistinguishable from gameplay.
You know what got my blood pumping with the old entries?
The CGI scenes that TOLD you that shit is going to hit the fan
that automatically and unconsciously made you sit up straighter in your chair.

Dollet Invasion
Missile attack
Battle of the Gardens
Lunar Cry
in FF8, all such powerful scenes.

Intro
Sin Attack
Wedding crashing
Suki da ne
1000 Words
in FF10

But if everything is nearly identical and even the fricking sidequests have the same quality as the main quest
then nothing is really exciting.

I still get that old excitement with some of the other JRPG developers.

it's exciting
it's sustainable
you don't need to sell 5 million to get even.

Even if Sony releases a remaster it is still pathetic they are doing all this slimy bs to attack modders etc.

Imagine if Sony published DS1. they would have probably gone after DSfix too wtf.

Bloodborne is one of the all time greats and the 10 year anniversary is happening soon too. Instead of celebrating the game Sony is pushing negative pr like this. smh.

Could not disagree more, it's 2025 there's no excuse for this anymore. VAs don't get paid that much and even small indie studios can have full VA. Even disco elysium, one of the wordiest games ever, has full VA.

The one thing probably holding it back is jrpgs typically have a lot of junk dialogue that could easily be trimmed and that's another aspect I like about the ff7 remakes. Most scenes and conversations in those games are pretty to the point, everyone doesn't have meandering soliloquys like in FF16 or repeating everything 7 times like in atlus games. That's a skill issue though, condense the writing and pay for VA.

Didn't Bandai actually try going after DSFix? Or at least they don't seem to want to acknowledge it in anyway shape or form. I'm not sure if I ever heard about Fromsoft and if they ever acknowledged DSFix

The fix is still around so they weren't successful if they did try to take it down. But I don't remember what was happening with Bamco back then.

Honestly the less acknowledgement and association pubs have with modding community the better. They need to stay away because when they don't it just leads to content getting taken down or other enshitifications/monetizations of the hobby. Just look at Bethesda and Creation club.

I'm kinda in the mood to play a 4x, but there are so many. Off the top of my head I still have to play Civ 6, Old World, Humankind, and there is also Endless Legends and Space. Watching my French streamer play EL during the EL2 announcement kinda turned me on.

There is also Total War.
But those would require me to understand the first thing about how to win. The more your game takes from the HoMM series, the more probable I'm shit at it.

Any advice on what to play ?

I expect the framerates to drop when there are more demanding environments and with actual combat going on, so I think this last setting is what I'll settle on to play at.

It sure sounds like Electronic Arts thinks cutting Dragon Age: The Veilguard's live service components was a mistake

"In order to break beyond the core audience, games need to directly connect to the evolving demands of players who increasingly seek shared-world features and deeper engagement alongside high-quality narratives in this beloved category. Dragon Age had a high quality launch and was well-reviewed by critics and those who played; however, it did not resonate with a broad-enough audience in this highly competitive market."
Imagine being this stupid... No one didn't buy DATV because it was lacking "shared world features." This makes me even more worried for Mass Effect 5.

I have to wonder with all the advancement with DLSS and Raytracing, if this means that in the future more and more developer will adopt the logic of the devs of "The Remnant 2" of: "It was developed with DLSS in mind", meaning shit optimization
