Yesterday's Vinland Saga's episode was, in my opinion, awesome. Some shots and backgrounds had me frantically screen capping them, but the thing that in my opinion stole the show for that episode was the soundtrack. It caught me by surprise and left me slack-jawed, so eerily beautiful and ominous, utterly different from pretty much anything anime. I didn't think they could convey the way the manga felt and with this one, I have never been more happy to be wrong. This is where the story gets serious and they really rose to the occasion.

New season is starting and I just realized there's nothing on my radar except the new My Hero Academia season :face-with-cold-sweat:
I should probably start with Vinland Saga and Fire Force now that they have a bunch of episodes. Also I just remembered Fate/Waver.

And outside of that I'll just continue watching Kamen Rider (currently watching Build) :coffee-blob:

Oh wait, I forgot. There's also a No Guns Life anime this season. I like the manga, so I'm curious if the adaption is any good.

I'm looking forward to No Guns Life.

As well as:
Neue LoGH
Psycho-Pass S3
F/GO Babylonia
Babylon
Granblue S2
Fairy Gone S2

This one is a nice distraction since it goes against tropes, somehow.

Alright, doing some research, there are 2 more shows I'll keep an eye on:

Kemono Michi: Rise Up

because it appears to be from the Konosuba writer :kazuma_thumbsup:

and

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

which I know nothing about but it appears to have great faces.

Is there an equivalent to Fate Stay Night or whatever, the first VN, in anime ? Is it good ?

There is the adaption from Studio Deen, which mostly covers the first route but mixes in stuff from the others as well.
I think the general consensus is that it's not good? It's been ages since I watched, so I'm not sure. I think I enjoyed it though, but I didn't have much anime experience under my belt back then and no knowledge about Fate at all.

The 2nd route of the first VN (Unlimited Blade Works) has the adaption of the same name by ufotable. There are some changes/additions that reference Fate/Zero more iirc.

The 3rd route (Heaven's Feel) is currently getting movies, also by ufotable.

I actually really like the Studio DEEN adaptation. :shrugblob:

Like, it's not THAT bad. When people compare it to the VN it is lesser, yes. Like when people love a book but say it's movie adaptation wasn't as good, you know?

It's not top tier quality, but meh, it does a fairly decent job as a gateway to Fate universe.

Saw Kimetsu no Yaiba and it was great. It's quite gory for a typical WSJ adaptation, but violence, unless it's torture porn and other sadistic trash, has never bothered me. The characters are great, if a bit annoying at the beginning and fights are some of the most creative I've seen in a shounen in recent years. It's great they're making movies to continue the story, but I would've prefered a new season.

I'm thinking it will be 1 movie and then regular seasons again, but who knows.

If it did good at ratings it's probably safe to assume that there will be another season. It would be a shame to see a show this good ending on a "to be continued in manga" note.

Is Soma could get 4 seasons, than I have no doubt that Yaiba will get more, lol. It's crazy popular now.

I'm totally lost on this franchise. Is there a list of anime I should watch that is canon. Or are the different series randomly about this route or that route.
Basically, how do I watch this ?

Fate/Zero is a prequel
Unlimited Blade Works is the more praised adaptation of the VN than Deen's movie or series (personally, I'm apathetic to cold on Nasu outside of KnoK, so they both rather meh to me)
Heaven's Feel is the latest adaptation of a different route.

If you want to get the complete picture:

I would probably watch
Fate/Stay Night from DEEN or read the first route from the VN
then Fate/Zero
ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works
Heaven's Feel
movies

Fate/Stay Night, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel are adaptions of the original VN. Fate/Zero is a prequel to those that was written afterwards. Not too sure about the

There's a boatload of spin-offs, or alternate universes, or whatever and I think any of them can be watched whenever after having some familiarity with the rules of the franchise.

IIRC, F/SN, UBW and Heaven's Feel are different routes and Zero is based on a prequel LN by Urobutcher.

I know what you mean, lol. It's like they explore the same basic premise but UBW and Heaven's Feel are "what if" scenarios with characters that have more prominent role compared to the main route (vanilla F/SN),

So I added "Ganguro" to my ignore list on Twitter yesterday. **** that and anyone who tries to defend it.

In much less confrontational news, I finished One Punch Man this week. I think that's the first anime I've watched since Trigun at least 5 years ago.

I enjoyed it.

Same author, but personally I like it better than One Punch Man, sine it's more serious.
It also looks utterly fantastic.

Babylonia 00 and 01 were great so far. Haven't watched an anime on a weekly basis since Code Geass lol.

Hulu recommended BEM and Fairy Gone to me. They look interesting so I added them to my watchlist.

I want to watch Babylonia, but I found out it's an exclusive to Animelab in my country. I'm already subscribed to 3 different streamers (Crunchy, Funi and HIDIVE). No way I'm adding a fourth lmao. Our digital future, ladies and gentlemen. :02shout:

Also, if you're interested in Fairy Gone, I must warn you. I've seen the entire first cour, and while it looks very pretty (P.A. Works anime certainly always are), the direction was a bit messy. There's a bunch of world building stuff which could make a very good anime, but it's not being developed very well. There's plenty of action, but they're jumping from one plot point to another without a clear context. Hopefully they'll remedy this in the second cour, though.

Brother listen, I also subscribe to three different services and just wasn't having it with this exclusive crap.

Link Deleted ;)

I'll support the studio later when they make me pay out the nose for Blu-rays. (I always buy Nasuverse BR's.) In the meantime, we're left with little choice...

As a newcomer I'd start with the Deen series, it's perfectly watchable. I watched each anime as it came out (never read the vn) and I think it worked out pretty well.

This is a good watch.

A psychological thriller/suspense based on a novel (not light novel, mind you) about a public prosecutor investigating a big-pharma company tied up with a string of corruption involving a number of public figures. If that sounds dry, I can assure you, it's truly not. It's well directed and very tense. There are 3 episodes out so far, but I've only seen two -- both are great.

Babylonia's budget is insane and it shows. Gacha money well spent I say!

I thought Da Vinci looked a little weird at first, slightly different from the game, but it's growing on me and her reactions are always so funny.

And of course Enkidu is handsome as ever. ;)

Babylon episode 3 was great. I'm not entirely in with the supposedly supernatural aspect of it, but the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat.

And now, for ecchi enthusiasts.

Bear in mind HIDIVE is streaming the censored version (just like Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?). This series is basically a sports anime, featuring 2-person watercraft race/watergun battle. Think Gal Gun/Senran Kagura but with Jet Skis.

If you never played Ch. 7 of FGO it's going to get pretty confusing I imagine.

It's less about the supernatural and more about literally living in the "age of the gods." As in gods still exist on the planet. You will see Mesopotamian religion stretched to it's absolute limits lol. Kur, the Mesopotamian underworld is an actual place under the ground at this point in the Nasuverse.

It's unfortunate, but Babylonia was never going to be beginner friendly to outsiders. It's the 7th chapter of a mobile game. Same with the Camelot movies tbh, that was Chapter 6 and I just don't think they're even gonna bother to slow it down for people who don't play.

Haha, yeah. I was referring to Bablyon and not Babylonia. :02shy:

But while we're on the subject, I did find myself a little lost when I saw Episode 0/1 of Bablyonia. I was under the impression that it's mostly self-contained, like Apocrypha. But there's actually a lot of context which I wasn't aware of. And obviously I haven't seen this either:

It feels like being told by Kondo-san: "You can absolutely start with Trails of Cold Steel III" while in actuality you can't, not without missing a lot of context and character development from Liberl/Crossbell/First half of Erebonia arcs.

The difference is I'm not as invested in Nasuverse as well as Trails, so I'll try looking up on a story summary wiki somehere so I can understand what's going on.

I enjoyed it. It has a really unique artstyle, cool action and the beginning episodes have really good direction. They had some big production troubles so it kinda falls apart a bit later on, but was still fun enough.

It's mostly the same plot as the first game, but only covers about half or two thirds of the first part of the first game (there are actually 3 story parts to the first God Eater game. Part 1 is the original story. Part 2 got added with the God Eater: Burst re-release and part 3 with God Eater: Resurrection. Fwiw I personally think the original story arc is the weakest, and the later ones are much more interesting.)

Still, I had fun watching it.

Just like gaming, it's OK to drop any series after a few episodes in, though. Unless of course, you're watching Cross Ange or Valvrave the Liberator and simply can't look away from the trainwreck.

(Don't watch either of those shows, btw. No one should suffer through those like I did.) :02dead:

I really liked Re:Zero. It definitely takes a few episodes to get going though. And I don't think I would recommend it to someone trying to get into anime again.
I don't think Isekai in general is a genre for someone starting out (again). Except maybe Konosuba :kazuma_thumbsup: (I would probably also not recommend Konosuba to someone like that)
