Probably of no interest to most but I've always been fond of this game's engine/visuals (the game itself not as much, it's not the best Thunder but still neat) yet have been unable to find and show good quality footage that is not emulated, is full 60fps and shows more than indoor tracks. Until this video just now, yay.

I bought my copy of Xenoblade X DE, but I'm probably going to wait until the Switch 2 launch to play it because of that hidden 60 fps mode that was data mined. I loved the game when I played it 10 years ago and I'm quite curious about the new story content and how it will expand upon the original ending.

They did way more than what I originally expected. Monolith Soft continues to be a treasure.
 
So the days after the Switch 2 direct Treehouse will be doing gameplay live streams so we'll get a good look at some games even outside scripted trailers, yay.

14 hours to go.

Just finished watching the direct, very meh on it. Lack of suprises, lack of interesting 3rd party games coming to it (not that I would buy any 3rd party games, but was still interesting in seeing what it would get), console itself seems like half a generational jump, like Switch 1.5.

Will wait on this one.

Yeah, I’m not too enthusiastic about it. I’m sure it’ll be a great system, but I’m getting 3DS energy from it versus the optimism and originality of the Switch.

Is that a bad thing? Not per-se, but the games don’t exactly appeal either.
 
I’ve only glanced at some of the Switch 2 stuff, and don’t plan on buying one for a very long time.

But man does Donkey Kong look fun. To me that’s the “killer app”, not Mario Kart.
 

They've played Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and will do Metroid Prime next and go back to DK in a later area. I wonder what they'll play tomorrow if not the same.

All three showcases so far are pretty great. I noticed a few framerate hiccups during Mario Kart. Hopefully they can iron them out before launch.

Same, but the scale and detail of the courses is pretty crazy on top of the open world they're in. Love the inclusion of the continuous elimination racing mode without the interruptions between the courses and the world segments leading from one to the other making each its own separate little race, it'd be a waste to make it all seamless technically and then only be able to play in segments. Very Outrun-esque or like Daytona USA 2's final course being an all in one montage.

Prime looks so great visually and in its distinct gameplay style too even after I watched the new Doom DF video which is obviously miles ahead technically.​

Donkey Kong looks like it tries to do for action/collectathon platformers what BOTW did for Zelda with these massive and kind of freeform levels you can climb all over, smash all over, etc., of course there are limits and areas that aren't so breakable to maintain structure and design but yeah, it looks quite well done, though I don't think the visual style of Donkey Kong's world is nearly as charming as what they've been doing with the Mushroom Kingdom/worlds.

Anyway, really great presenters/players as usual from Treehouse (as someone who doesn't generally watch gameplay streams, youtubers etc.).

Ex-Nintendo employees talking about how Nintendo lost control of messaging for Switch 2's prices and how they're in the unusual position of being on defense for the topic. tl;dw: Nintendo has been flying high the past few years and hasn't been in a real crisis so they haven't been able to muster a response to the prices. Also there's no guiding figure like Iwata or Reggie who is more in tune with what users want and it's probably run by bean counters and suits.

I don’t think Nintendo has been completely blindsided by this pricing talk. They clearly worked very hard to keep the US price down at everyone else’s (except Japan’s) expense.

Feels like an unavoidable problem to me. I’m not defending them, but I think the nickel and diming and overpriced games comes down to them thinking this thing will sell less.

Watching some of the Treehouse footage from yesterday...and yea Bananza looks really good. The gameplay is fluid and all the level looked very fun/detailed. Everything is fast too. Pretty good display of the Switch 2 power.

Gotta give credit to Nintendo for still being one of the few big devs to put so much $$$ and detail into 3D platformers. Be it an action or regular platformer. Xbox really needs to do this for Banjo.

Prime 4 looked alright but fairly basic and dated imo. Not something I'm particularly hyped for.

And yea the new Mario Kart looks very ambitious with all the off road stuff. And its heavily populated. It definitely something people will spend a lot of time with. I still don't see how it warrants such a price jump but Nintendo knows they will get away with. The last Mario Kart sold so much its pretty much up there with COD and Rockstar stuff so Nintendo taking advantage.

I think further price hikes in Europe would be untenable now they’ve announced the EU price and admitted the pre-order delay (ostensibly only in America) is due to tariffs.

If they’re not raising the price in the US, they may flood other markets with consoles and throttle US supply to reduce losses on per unit sales until the landscape settles.
 
I don't see how Nintendo or any other Asian company/country can just take such a giant hit on their bottom line. These tariff percentages are high asf.

What can you even do? Make some type of backdoor deal with Trump?

It's that or possibly ruin an entire gaming gen for so many gamers and devs

All this applies to Sony too. Does it mean PS5 is going up in price? wtf.
 
So if Nintendo struggles to sell the Switch 2 which in turn leads to them struggling to sell their first party games how likely is it that they may take desperate measures and port their games to PC?
 
Every now and then I get suckered into buying a Xenoblade Chronicles game, and instantly regret it within 5 minutes of playing.

This time, I fell into the trap of buying X.

I'm sure there are good, interesting gameplay systems there, but the horrible voice acting that narrates every action you do hurts me on a level I can't describe.

I spent £40 to put the game down after 30 minutes. This is also why I buy physical games on Switch.

Playing Metroid Prime 4 with mouselook and at 120fps feels incredible - and like it should be illegal

On Switch 2, Metroid Prime 4 has modes so silky and control options so alien that playing it feels like you're being very naughty indeed.

The implementation of mouse controls in Metroid Prime 4 is nothing short of absolutely fascinating, however. The most genius touch is this: it’s not a toggle. That means you can hold one Joy-Con 2 in each hand normally, and use them like two halves of a regular controller. In this setup, Prime 4 plays in much the same way as the other titles in this series. But if you orient that right-hand Joy-Con into the proper position and place it onto a surface, the game automatically understands your intent and flips you over to mouselook. No menu fiddling, no faffing about - it’s just there.

Once I hit a boss battle, the controller action ceased entirely. This hulking beast had classic pulsating and glowing weak points that were only temporarily vulnerable - and being able to use mouse controls to be deadly accurate meant I shredded the boss much more efficiently than some around me who played the game a more traditional way.

I feel like the mouse functionality is Nintendo acknowledging that fewer and fewer people are playing on big TV setups, and instead playing on smaller screens at their desk.

Just imagine your standard streamer setup and I think this mouse mode suddenly becomes a genius idea.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is you probably won't be able to use a real mouse with the Switch 2, which kinda sucks.
 
I imagine a mouse-shaped 3rd party joycon won't be hard to devise. Or maybe some adapter that makes some standard mouse connect to joycon bluetooth. Maybe they have to be limited to the dpi & buttons of the standard joycons but other than that I guess you could get any form factor more comfortable for you.

I’m giving serious thought to replacing my PS5 Slim and Series X with a PS5 Pro and 360 Slim.

Most of my Series X games either have a PS5 version or are 360 games anyway. About the only game I’d be losing is Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and I believe all the games from that pack have 360 versions anyway.

I could sell the above and replace all the games with like for like PS/360 versions and have cash to spare.
