MonthOLDpickle everything NeuralProxy said about this keyboard choice is spot on. Corsair probably makes the best KBs out of the "mainstream" gaming brands so it's not a bad choice, but with Ducky you get a ton more options and quality that matches the enthusiast market generally.
What other ducky do you recommend?

Thanks NeuralProxy bobnowhere

Also how do you add customized macros to use with ducky btw lol

Hey folks!

First post here. Very happy to have joined the council just yesterday. Long, long time lurker on the Steam thread since Gaf days and Era afterwards. Been meaning to register and contribute to the community for ages since you're all such cool people! I even added a big bunch of you on Steam during that friend adding wave last winter sale if I'm remembering correctly. Feel free to add me on Steam if we're not friends there already!

I kept procrastinating on registering because I lost access to my old college e-mail. Shout-out to lashman for helping me out with this! Thanks again for having me here :smiling-eyes:

Thanks!

I wonder what is actually wrong. Is it my ISP? Please no. :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:
no problem

and yeah, who knows what's going on ... might be a problem with your ISP caching or something

Hey folks!

With regards to the keyboard talk I've had good luck with Logitech. ¯\(ツ)

Currently use the Logitech G Pro (10keyless), and love the customization available to me via the software. Been a little over a year now with it, and no bad keys, no hardware or software issues, It's mechanical and uses custom switches by logitech (Romer-G), specifically desgined for modern use, proper lighting, and gaming. The cherry MX switches you typically see are old, not meant for gaming... Though I guess they work just fine given the popularity.

This Keyboard might be considered a bit on the pricey side though...

Prices of midrange cards has come down a lot already and when that Navi stuff hits PC there should be more movement, same with other components. Almost every new console generation offers a solid price/perf ratio upon release but with them using mostly standard PC components/chips now the magic sauce will become thinner and thinner. Also while you can built a cheap, good gaming PC few of us are PC gamers because of price and I've been hearing the same 'no reason to buy one anymore' since the 90s.

And now to read the next 5 pages. Pls slow down, I'm old, have mercy.
Yeah hopefully when AMD drops some new stuff Nvidia will try to actually compete price wise? But I dunno, seems their doing fine ignoring AMD as usual anyway. o_O Personally I'm just waiting for whatever comes after this current RTX line. I don't really think the 2080ti is a worthy enough upgrade over my 1080ti, RTX or not. So I decided I'd wait this card gen out and haven't had any issues yet.

When next-gen hits and game requirements go up again maybe I'll start to sweat. :p

I've only ever used the Ducky One TKL myself personally, I know of the newer Shines that seem to do well too, but I can't say much about them myself. The brand is just pretty well regarded in the mech KB scene for using higher quality parts. I use a Varmilo myself these days (VA87M Sakura), and I like it despite some quirks. Admittedly I'm not much of a keyboard head though, I'm much more knowledgeable on mice (competitive FPS player). I just know a bit from friends who have helped me shop for KBs in the past.

Programming Macros should be done by a combination of an fn key + other combinations. There should be documentation with the keyboard or on one of their sites.

I'm sure some of the namebrand gaming KBs are fine or even good, so I'm not going to knock them super hard, but I have a need to go TKL and like knowing my keycaps won't wear down or are easily replaceable.

Canada
Katamari Damacy REROLL is $11.99 on WinGameStore, All time low.
The Steam price is stupidly high in Canada so $16 CAD is an instant buy for me.

Katana: Zero only ~3 hours long?

Took me 4. But it seems like there's post launch content planned.

Plus there's a bunch of secrets and dialogue options so replaying it worth it.

Really wish Sekiro had a custom character maker at least akin to Tenchu Z lol. It's not hard to see why character replacement/customizations mods are so popular for Sekiro.

The amount of Atelier games on Steam is too damn high.

But in all seriousness as someone whose PS3 library was 40% Atelier games I love this new reality where they are all just on PC.
I played the complete Dusk trilogy on PS3. When I play the new games, something is missing, From the game systems to the worldbuilding.
Ayesha was such a good adventure, finding old ruins and why the world is dying.
Escha to Logy was such good "living in the world" feeling with those two working in the town. you really felt the years.
Shally was Ok.

Something was lost without the time system.

i like the game having a set character, and sekiro is such a good design and a likeable character. he might be a stoic, quiet videogame protagonist but he's the best stoic, quiet videogame protagonist

this mod is fun for ng+ but i'd rather have a super detailed face if there's gonna be a set character and story

this is not an rpg

So I kind of narrowed my choices for mechanical kbs to these three:

Or I mean I can go back to using what I used before, Cherry-Brand MX 2.0

Thoughts?
Beware of the MX Speed switches, I had a K70 RGB with them (after owning one with Browns) and they were too fast for me. Meaning if I only slightly touched one it would activate, so you have to be a really precise typer or lots of errors will happen just by scraping keys beside the ones you wanted to hit. Even after over a year I couldn't adjust completely, then went with Reds (HyperX Alloy something, very solid but terrible palmrest and too limited software) and now use Razer's equivalent of the Browns (I think Orange) on a Blackwidow Elite. Which I really love, especially the handrest is perfect. Oh what I also couldn't adjust to was a Logitech keyboard in-between that had no numpad, I use it all the time for tiny stuff like entering prices for Steam cards, drove me insane after a week (also all Logitech boards I have tried that use their own Romer-G switches had this annoying 'filco ping' and they felt somewhat crappy).

The cherry MX switches you typically see are old, not meant for gaming...
The Reds are actually perfect for gaming and if you for some reason (it really doesn't make a difference in games) want faster actuation you can get MX Speed. The rest is fine too and non-Cherrys don't do anything different, it's mostly all the same with minor adjustments despite what their marketing wants us to believe (Razer has those opto-mechanical switches, haven't tried them yet). Only ones I personally would never use for gaming are the switches that make a clicking sound, that'd be horrendously annoying for me.

It's just effect of Steam reusing Steam Cloud for that upload image feature. Are the images stored for longer than 2 weeks which seems to be max retention for chat messages?

And Steam Cloud managing is something I'd like Steam to add in future.

There's some fan tools sure, but official one would be nice.

Call me a casual or whatever, but my favorite Atelier games have been the ones where time was either super lax or the limit was non-existent. It's nice not to have that pressure in what are otherwise really comfy games. o_O

I guess at times it felt aimless in Atelier Sophie without a time limit but still...

I agree. Some people complained about the time system, but I always felt that it was part of the identity of the series. (And part of what made the gameplay loop work so well)

what i would love for a sekiro dlc is for it to be a separate campaign with a different character

i would love a genichiro focused campaign, maybe one that digs on what happened in the 3 years sekiro was asleep, how he got tomoe's lighting and all that fun stuff

or someone entirely new, maybe set during the ashina days

yeah it's clearly related to that, as one of them is from yesterday

I use Silvers and I think they are just fine myself, but don't really offer any "advantages" for games and are definitely not for everybody.

I read the mod description the other day, and apprently there's no cloth physics. Would that make it awkward?

It's an interesting mod, by the way. It's only a matter of time until we see 2B. :heartblob:

I have been using reds. It is why I am getting them again.

What are some quieter colors? I really like the red for typing.

For ducky which is best too go for, shine (6,7) or one 2? Which one is actually newer.

There's a Silent Red variant which I had for a few days in a K70 but they felt weird, too mushy for games. You could try Reds with rubber O-rings.

i don't think that makes it awkard, but she doesn't have talking or blinking animations and she looks silly pale and cutscenes just look pretty dumb hehe. her textures also break from time to time

it's a fun dumb thing to do on ng+, definitely not something you want to enjoy the story. i'm probably gonna disable when i get to the other ending part

also yeah 2b would be a good fit, i hope someone makes her soon and i get to try her

not that i like 2b at all but still, butts

I guess? I just know the Romer switches are actually a modern design with gaming in mind. (Shorter actuation, redundant contacts, and much longer life-span = more presses.) It's interesting how your keyboard experience is the exact opposite of mine. I've had nothing but issues with Cherry switches in the past, and no matter how much I mash my keyboard I can't seem to identify this ping you speak of.

Probably a good thing. After watching some youtube videos of the sound it'd probably be enough for me to return the keyboard as it is quite annoying sounding.

I do like the clicky-clacky sound of keys though, even while gaming. (It's not much of an issue while wearing a tight headset I've found.) And I use a controller for anything non-competitive so don't have to worry about it otherwise. :p

It's only a matter of time until we see 2B. :heartblob:

you can say that again ... TW2 wasn't any better ... each autosave was a new file and the total could go into hundreds of megabytes if you played the game for long enough ... pure madness!

Call me crazy but that's great news to me.

Since i tend to play a lot of lengthy RPG's and Strategy games, having short palate cleanser games is a great thing to me.
exactly ... i love short games ... give me more of those! in fact - give me a 5h long AAA game

i miss being able to actually finish games :negative-blob: everything now is a 500h+ service

I don't know much else. AFAIK the Shine is the same keyboard with a different type of plate(metal instead of plastic) and they don't come in TKL. Idk which is newer but it doesn't matter much. I'd rec to look up more yourself or ask somebody who knows more than me ;~;

It's all PR talk, those alternative switches aren't better in a meaningful way (you'll never, ever wear them out), they exist for two reasons: To save money, producing that stuff themselves is cheaper for Logitech in the long run and it nets them flexibility, Cherry did have supply issues for certain switches in the past (which afair was the main motivation for Razer to do their own). Of course this doesn't mean someone can't actually like the feeling of non-Cherry board more, that's totally subjective.

And I've honestly never used a Romger-G board that didn't have the ping, including the 'full' version of yours, G513 I think. Now I can even hear it in the background typing this on my Razer and the ones with Cherry had it too but there the ping is only very shortlived while with all the Logitechs it lingers on, like an echo and it wasn't only when mashing, quite the opposite, slowly and gently typing made it more noticeable. Terrible. You'll of course won't hear it as badly when using clicky switches but as far I'm concerned that'd be a shitsandwich of ear-terror for me. If there's a sound somewhere, I hear it, if the clicks of a mouse are too loud it gets sent back (heyyy Zowie) and if you want to know what I think of most 'silent' PCs and consoles, oh well, sometimes I wish my hearing would be worse.

  • Keycaps: The keycaps that come with the keyboard are just all around better on the Ducky, I've been using this for a year and a half and they look as good as new. With the Corsair board they started to get that 'shiny' look after just a few months of typing. Also, the Ducky board use standard keycaps, which means that if you want to get fancy and get personalized ones or if you have problems with specific keycaps, you can easily replace them. It's also possibile with the Corsair board but it's harder and you'll have a more limited choice because they have (or at least used to have when I had a similar problem) a lot of custom keycaps.
Corsair actually offers a PBT-Double-Shot set you can buy seperately but the price seems excessive and I wish they (and other mainstream brands) would include better keycaps with their high end boards, that's my main gripe right now.

AA1 Case 4 is damn good. It's super tense and the antagonist is intimidating. I thought I was going to fail the case on Trial Day 2 because of lack of evidence or something.

"What kind of kangaroo court are you running here judge?~"

Anyway, Phoenix is a true bullshite artist, lmao.
It really is! I enjoyed the first three cases just fine but the fourth one is something else! So is the fifth case too. I felt it started a little slow but by the end it's probably just as good as the fourth case.

Maybe if you skipped all the dialogue and played like a god? It probably took me somewhere between 4-5 hours, Steam timer is a bit high because I left the game on for most of the day.
Even 4-5 hours sounds great to me. I'm like 40 hours in DQ XI and probably only at the halfway point. I feared it was a 10 hour thing.

Call me crazy but that's great news to me.

Same. The shorter a game the better. So much bloat in too many games. Though not DQ XI. That game gets better and better.
