Resumed my comic book reading. I'm only just more than a year late. Not a problem at all :cryblob: I will catch up one day for sure :cryblob:
My OCD refuses to skip months of comics, what every normal person would do.

So yeah, a lot of gently boring (Marauders, New Mutants) to middling shit (Excalibur, Avengers) to utter drivel (Fallen Angels) was read.
On a brighter note, Undiscovered Country is not bad at all. Not in love, but this is good.

I started Marvel, as in the Marvel mini-series by Busiek and Ross.
Now that's a fucking comic book. I can't say I love it but it oozes talent.

I stumbled upon a manga randomly that turned out to be good. So I want to share with the good people of MC!

The Way of the Househusband
This looks kinda fun and apparently, it's getting an anime adaptation.

EDIT. The Anime is already out, lol.

Decided to catch up to Immortal Hulk and
:sweaty-blob:
The body horror is on point and the story is going at a nice pace with lots of whacky shit going on.
The series has a few low points (but they're not terrible by any means!) but its overall a fun and great series.

Oof, I'm having a case of comicsitis, big time.
So we are back to the same fucking dilemma we always end up in. Try to foolishly catch up one fucking year of comics or skip a ton of titles that interest me. Yeah.

On a brighter note, I didn't like Marvels as a whole, but Eye of the Camera was great and two issues in, the recent Marvels Snapshots start very well.

Ok, so I read some comics yesterday.

  • Batman #86-87 (Their Dark Designs) starts out strong.
  • Metaplots are shit. Even when not insufferable. I was reading Action Comics / Justice League and each one was set in a slightly different time of the Totality big fight, making having a clear picture quite difficult. In this Luthor is winning, in that the big bad one is winning, and I'm pretty sure I will read how the Batman Who Laughs is winning in the second issue of Hell Arisen. Ok.
  • Immortal Hulk is really good, as always, still one of the best Marvel Comics releasing, but I'm afraid I clearly have lost a good chunk of interest when they stopped the Hulk / Horror formula to Super-Hero / Light Horror. I loved the early sort of Eerie things they had going.
  • Suicide Squad is annoying. I keep thinking I should skip it as I have too much on my plate, then read the #2 and it's as fucking good as the first. One of the best book I read yesterday.
  • Letdowns of the night were Guardians of the Galaxy, just gently boring, and Thor by Donny Cates. I already found Cates work on Venom to be lackluster, and this is, well, Cates alright. I mean, it's readable, and less boring than Guardians, but yeah.
  • High Points were Batman and Suicide Squad.

Yeah I agree, much as I enjoy the current Hulk book, they should've at least made a side book that is not necessarily canon and just Hulk and Banner getting into horror themed stories as they spelunk across the US.

That's the one I'm reading (eternally LTTP). And yeah, as I said, I would really like to slim down my catch up list, but this is too good.
Tom Taylor is on my radar when I read solicitations, now.

Scott Snyder's JL right?
What little I read of it was fine but...
Why did is Barry being written like a young energetic Wally West?

Oh, I painted with a broad stroke in that post ! I didn't mean that I'm particularly enamored with Snyder's JL (and Snyder in general for that matter), more that Venditti's one is really worse, imho.
Distinct feeling of DC needing an arc or two to fill up their publishing schedule and giving the job to a mediocre writer they can count on to shit that. The plot is uninteresting, right, the characters talk like characters and not persons, who cares, we have our filler.

Yesterday was full of that shit in fact. Good thing I read Far Sector #3-4 and to a lesser extant X-Force #5.

I haven't posted here for a bit but y'all should probably read this book and gift a copy to your mums for Mum's day. Quite inspirational and heartwarming.

Just read through this and really enjoyed it.

After the five minutes

The main character Yamato, his twin brother Yuuto and their childhood friend Michiru are really good friends.
One day, Yamato meets a shady fortune teller who gives him a bracelet that will allow him to go into the future and come back once.
He doesn't believe it but in the end goes "what the heck let's just try" because he wants to see if the three of them are still together in future.
Cue time leap. He meets up with his twin and childhood friend and things don't seem to be much different.

Until suddenly buddha statues with shackles appear and start violently massacring humans and everything goes to hell.
After seeing this messed up future he realizes that he can try changing it if he goes back to the past and tells people about their impending doom. Yes it's a long shot but what else can he do? And if worst comes to worst at least Yuuta and Michiru will definitely believe and work together with him.
Then he checks time and date to see how much time he has to prepare.
And learns that he only travelled 5 minutes into the future.

Thus starts an action packed hot-blooded buddha fighting time leaping survival mystery story, in where Yamato has to struggle desperately in this doomed future to learn as much as he can about their adverseries. So that somehow, when he ultimately travels back in time, he can save the world in the 5 minutes he has been given.

It's fairly short with 7 volumes and moves at a brisk place, but doesn't feel rushed and ends with all the plot threads neatly tied up. Art is great, lots of cool action scenes and panelling, and cool twists.

I saw this posted on Discord. Random musings from Miura in (I assume) Young Animal magazine, where Berserk was published. Young Animal is a monthly magazine, but I imagine that didn't make his workload any less demanding. Plus Japanese work ethics and mangaka crunch culture is a problem which still needs solving.

I am livid. This stupid, absurd, exploitative culture got a cultural legend killed. Fuck you, Japan, and get it together. This isn't sustainable.

I remember when I read bakuman (which is a manga about the industry):
The main character gets hospitalized and he insist to keep working despite other characters telling him to recover first.
And when I read it, it felt like they painted that as a positive thing

Yeah, to Japan killing yourself for work, having an unhealthy work/life balance is seen as virtuous. It's insane. It's one of the most exploitative societies I've ever seen.

Reading the announcement as soon as Berserk official account posted killed me

It made me sad and kinda felt broken. Berserk played a HUGE role in my life

Got me through a lot of things and losing something you grew up with is never easy

Hey, I read a bunch of comic books yesterday !
I often allude to the fact I'm very ocd about them and am eternally catching up with one + year of comics.

And I think I found out why I can't catch up. Sure, the logical thing is that when I read too much comics I get burnt out and stop for too long a time then the cycle continues.
But it's also because a lot of comics are
absolute shit tier ! :so-good-blob:
I'm shocked

There is a big culling of the catch up list coming.

Yesterday was...
Avengers 31
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Batman 88-89
Batman Superman 7
Thor 3

And let's be honest, in varying degree, the only readable thing was Batman. I nearly lost brain cells on Avengers. How Aaron can write this thing is beyond me. Thor was moronic and Guardians might as well not exist. Bat Supe was just here to sell a bunch of issue, but less offensive.

Seeing as I will probably drop Guardians of the Galaxy, at least for some months, I wonder if Ewing is not spread a little too thin.

I like OMAC even tho it got cut short

Funny thing about New Gods
Equate mother boxes to modern mobile devices and you will see some curious similarities.

JoJo pART 8 is rumored to end in the coming months, all things considered, it does feel like this recent arc was the climax. Good time to jump in and read thourhg it if anyone's interested.

Caught up to One Piece and stuff be building uuuuuuuuuuuuup in this bout.

Gonna start reading the Mashle manga, and from the first handful chapters it's freaking' fun.

The new Nightwing series' TPB can't get here soon enough T_T
