Fucking great, honestly. I've beenon my vita since i bought it in '19 and it's played essentially everything I've thrown at it within reason. Up to PSX easy.

valkyries Vita3k has gotten better over the years and you can actually finish a bunch of games on it, but 3D stuff has still lots of issues AFAIK.

im thinking about getting the Anbernic RG35xx plus and it will be mostly used for retro RPGs, but I was thinking that PS1 has so many good ones but the RG35xx doesn't have analogue sticks so I wonder how many of those RPGs actually need those? If I remember correctly many of PS1 games could be played with just d pad.
Probably 0 RPGs need it. Ape Escape might be the only game that requires it. Though others were heavily enhanced by it (ie, MGS, but mostly for the rumble).
But going for a handheld with at least one analog could enable N64, Dreamcast or PSP emulation (shouldn't need much higher specs, not as high as PS2)
The RG35XX H has the same specs/price as the Plus and has 2 sticks. These specs seem to handle N64/Dreamcast/DS but struggle with heavier PSP games.
Edit: Retroid Pocket 2S seems to perform better on PSP and also Sega Saturn (still not perfect, but Dreamcast is) but costs a little more than these other ones...

Well they have the RG405V for that form factor with sticks on top but I didn't research how it compares in performance and compatibility as it costs like double.

Which apparently has 500k people out there (+ whoever took that info and spread it in other forms) using their Wii all wrong on the false premise it looks better. Apparently this guy has never heard of anamorphic (widescreen) rendering for any device but Wii so recommends folks run their games in 16:9 but remove the image stretching that matches said 16:9 aspect ratio so that they look crisper as in the 4:3 framebuffer (and so everything gets squished to the wrong aspect ratio as the fov no longer matches that). WTF?! Just run your Wii in 4:3 mode if you don't want stretching with the correct aspect ratio rendering/fov (granted some specific games will letterbox 16:9 as they only support that, but then you can choose 16:9 for those alone). How can such bad advice get such traction, barely anyone is calling them out in the comments. Maybe there are Wii games out there that do have the wrong, stretched aspect ratio by default so plain framebuffer is better but probably nothing notable or worthwhile unless it's some shoddy port of an older good game from other systems or something.

I've been setting up EmuDeck on my LCD Deck and I'm truly amazed at how well this wonderful software works.
I never really owned a console, the only one I had was a Mega Drive for a time, so I'm currently in the process of finding out what games are must gets for each system and I've noticed there's a lot of redundancy, especially in Nintendo systems. Basically every zelda game on an old stationary console gets ported to the next generation portable or the one after that, for instance OoT was a N64 game but it's also available for 3DS. In these cases is it worth it to play the original version or should I just try the newest port? Any reason, besides some purist bs, to emulate the original game in the original hardware?

I think in most cases with these Nintendo remakes the new version is considered better overall (for non-nostalgia purposes).
With Ocarina of Time, the 3DS version does have a better framerate (30fps vs 20fps) and the extra buttons for changing boots and things are a nice QOL improvement, plus some nicer graphics. The only problem I have when emulating is what to do with the second screen.
However, with OOT, I would use Ship of Harkinian port. Works really well on the Steam Deck and has lots of enhancements applied to it.

Needs a little tinkering to setup but I'm playing Darkwatch via pcsx2 and it's usable.
So, that's widescreen and 60 fps patch, plus upscaled texture pack and now mouse controls, Pretty neat.
Anybody else's Flycast crashing if using Vulkan in RetroArch these days (all fully updated)? Revert to glcore for now if so, it seems equal in its rendering quality.
You may have to disable the full framebuffer emulation as it seems to cause performance issues in some games but I'm not sure it's even needed for anything.
It used to be needed for some effects to render correctly in certain games but I think now the RTT setting suffices or is also unneeded. I've not tested CV water.

New RetroArch version seems to be just about released, I noticed a ton of core updates today (I'm OCD and keep clicking until it doesn't get new version, lol) and though their twitter/site doesn't have the news yet there are non functional download links for 1.20.1 and the github has 1.20.0 (up from 1.19.1). Can't wait to see what's new (other than the fancy new high Hz CRT stuff, a blog post related to PS2 image quality and how that helps get an accurate image is already up).

So you guys know all the Dolphin ubershader stuff finally fixing the shader cache stuttering or whatever back when it was introduced yeah? To this day I still get stuttering the first time some effect loads if I'm using Vulkan and only don't get stuttering with DX12, whether I enable both ubershaders for everything or the hybrid approach, preload shaders when starting a game or whatever else all these years and the different Dolphin and Nvidia driver updates etc., maybe my PC's just borderline not good enough but Idk, seems weird to have that and not have it in DX12 where it works as intended. Just in case anyone knows better.

I have been playing some romhacks on the Trimui Smart Pro. Which has been an amazing little device so far. I have been playing Chrono Trigger +. I really like most of the additions. Getting a certain character much earlier, a brand new era, some difficulty tweaks.

There are fantastic Pokemon romhacks from original gb up to the DS games. The best for me are the "Legacy" rebalance hacks for Yellow, Crystal and Emerald. There are also colored and even sprite updated versions of RBY.
