New page killing the old. Sucks cos there was so much cool stuff by the end of the last one. Anyway, Praydog released his RE Engine VR mod for the new year!
  • A fleshed out scripting system using Lua
  • Generic 6DOF VR support to RE7, RE2, RE3, RE8, DMC5, and MHRISE
  • Full motion controls in RE2 and RE3 (when using FirstPerson, it is not enabled by default)
  • Physical knife damage in RE2/RE3
  • Physical grenade throwing in RE2/RE3
  • Early WIP motion controls for RE8

Well my stupidly expensive Christmas Present to myself turned up. I didn't buy Index Lighthouses at launch and have missed everytime they were available so when they were in stock over Christmas i bought two which arrived today. They're still in stock now. Dammit. Oh well, i'm sure if i hadn't bought them that they'd be out-of-stock now just to spite me.

I think one of my Vive lighthouses is not quite right so i think i needed to get new Base Stations anyway. Time to get the Index setup again and see how much of my "VR Legs" i've lost after 8 months of not using it. Going to dabble in VR Chat too and it's an excuse to look into making a simple avatar etc.

I see a lot of negative reviews for Hitman VR, is it completely shit or just something with issues that could be fixed? I see a few saying it's unplayable.

To me it's unplayable unless someone is really dedicated into working around its issues. Performance is great so far actually (I'm reading in the patch notes they did fix issues related to that) but the controls and the gameplay are all weird and wrong. Some things almost work, like picking up and letting go of or stashing items with the grip trigger, but only with your right hand, the grip on the left hand is set to run. To strangle someone you press not the grip but the triggers with both controllers and tap them the same way you tap the choke button/key out of VR which clearly doesn't feel right. Firearms other than pistols really suck, putting your second hand at the front does grip visually but it's just cosmetic, all movement/aiming is with the right hand like they're all pistols so you have a hard time lining up iron sights properly, the pistols also seem weird in their own way. Reloading is a button and plays the normal animation using both hands so there's a lot of disconnect with that and other such actions. It's just really clunky and weird and just not fun to play in this way, even though I avoided the room scale issues (it doesn't work, moving around just puts your view inside/outside the character model and things so you have to reset by pushing the left stick in, crouching doesn't activate either, it's set on a button instead) playing seated so that I don't move in relation to the character and turn with the right stick, so just look around with my head, which isn't my preferred way to play VR games. Throwing items has some nice aiding with locking on characters the same as out of VR by holding the left trigger then just doing the throwing action with your right hand and letting go of it and it goes where intended, I'm sure it'd be too hard for the game's gameplay if you were supposed to aim every throw manually 1:1. Instict is set to a button on the left hand so you can't be moving with it on. I think it can be fixed with a controls overhaul but I don't think they will do more than minor improvements and call it a day which would really suck. The way it works now I'd almost prefer the option for normal mkb/controller play in VR, it'd work better than this. Otherwise I'll just be playing it flat if at all. What a damn shame.

I am pretty interested in this new VR MMO, Zenith.

I own a Quest 1, which I have not used for 1,5 years and HL Alyx. There is a Occulus version of Zenith, but that is only for the Quest 2 (at least I think it is). Can I play the SteamVR version using the link cable like I did with Alyx?

To be fair, Facebook as a brand is fucked in the west, and their growth in the west is basically stagnant (and retreating). Yes, they have grown a lot in Africa and SEA, but those markets arent as "valuable" as EU/USA for advertisement in the next 5-10 years, and they might end up fearing they also become un-hip in there.
They have also been half-way fucked by Apple closing the backdoor of how they were able to get a fuck ton of information to market to.
Facebook / Meta is looking for a couple tough years of possible stagnation unless a pivot opens a new platform.

Now, renaming Oculus? Stupid. Instead of creating a separate brand that can still have some independence in peoples mind, they tried to tie themselves into it to salvage their brand... but the problem is that Facebook / Meta is a much bigger brand than Oculus at the moment.

hmmm.... a small but happy story.
So, a few years ago Audioshield had the ability to play videos from youtube. Then an update was released that removed that facility due to youtube policies etc. It caused quite a stir and possibly helped kill the project. However you can still play MP3s or MP4 audio with auto-generated patterns so eh, whatever.

I have been back playing Audioshield because i really like it and i was looking to see if i could get it to play MP4 with video. No luck so far but i took a look at my "Dethroned" tab and saw some of my friends had played some of the songs i played in 2019 and beaten me. Grrrrr. I also noticed that the tracks were listed as "youtube:AJSHDNEW" or whatever so out of curiosity i clicked one... it started processing... with video. I let it play the whole video because i wanted to see where it failed, it finished processing and after a few seconds i was in the arena with a video screen showing a youtube video. Just to test i chose a video challenge from a friend that i'd never played before so it was a whole new video and yup, it processed and worked.

So it seems that you can play youtube videos in Audioshield but only from the "Dethroned" menu. I suspect it has a limited number of plays too but i'll try it again tonight with some other videos from that list.

It would be great if i could find what format Audioshield uses from Youtube so we could try to encode local video and try to playback from usb or ssd but i don't think it is going to work if i'm honest. And no, i haven't added the mod that allows you to connect to a proxy video server to playback videos.

In my aim to get fit this year after gaining weight from Working-from-home for 2 years and not exercising as much i have sorted out my VR setup after 18 months, got back into Audioshield and i am also about to buy a bunch of VR Rhythm games in the Steam sale to try them out. Together with getting back into cycling, finally starting Ring Fit Adventure and some cardio work with these rhythm games i should be able to burn off some calories and get some of my suppleness and movement back.

I will be cycling and walking on my commute into work as i expect we'll be going for hybrid working again soon but these VR games will help keep me motivated again.

Issei Kai a jp VTuber i watch who also speaks a lot of english is playing Zenith at the moment. It's not a review but will give you an idea of what the game is like.

That dev is already preparing the next mod (afer HZD and RDR2). Not really a fan without any hand tracking, unless it's some cockpit based game or similar 🤷‍♂️
