The Polish PCF Group – parent company of People Can Fly – has not received money from Square Enix following the launch of Outriders earlier this year, according to a new statement on the developer’s website (thanks, Eurogamer.pl).

The statement, written in Polish, notes that the agreement the company had with Square Enix promised that People Can Fly would start receiving a portion of profits from the game once production, distribution, and promotion costs had been covered. The studio has yet to receive any royalties from Square Enix, though, suggesting that the game has not sold well enough to cover production costs.
“We do not have any data on the sales of Outriders,” said Sebastian Wojciechowski, the president of PCF Group (translated). “We estimate it at between 2 and 3 million copies and assumed that this was a result that would ensure the project’s profitability in the first quarter of sales.

If the publisher fails to pay, it probably means that Square Enix doesn’t think that is the case. Failure to achieve profitability levels may also mean that publisher costs are higher than expected.”

The game had over 100k CCU on Steam and was on Game Pass day 1 so MS must've paid quite a bit, yet it didn't break even? It's a third-person looter cover shooter, nothing revolutionary, and made in Poland which is cheaper than the West. Just how bloated are game budgets nowadays, Jesus.

IMO, I'd strongly advise against it. I bought the Series X version to avoid supporting EGS, and I absolutely hated it.

A Eurojanky Souls-like with questionable controls and generally poor game balancing, you should only ever consider this if you've exhausted all your other Souls-adjacent options (all the From games, The Surge, even Lords of the Fallen), and even then only on a deep sale.
I'll skip it, thanks for the advice :)

Sometimes I wonder if day 1 Gamepass games are those which don't meet high pre order expectation numbers and if entering into an agreement with Microsoft helps more than harms devs in the long term.

Car Mechanic Simulator sold 132k copies on Steam in the first three days.

My first thought is SE might be doing some Hollywood accounting to say that the game hasn't made a profit yet.

What is crawling through residential proxy and why does it matter to the site ?
It cannot be easily blocked.

Another case where the review-to-sale ratio (or "review multiplier" as VGInsights puts it) is roughly x100, i.e. 1% chance for a customer to write a review.

Pinging Tomasety. I expect the ratio to decrease to x30 (i.e. ~3% chance to write a review) as the game becomes more and more popular.

"Players don't review games straight away."
This is a possible explanation of the high ratio: there is a delay in the estimation of sales, because the number of reviews today tells us about the sales a few days ago (which are lower than the sales up to this day). However, I don't fully buy it because there are many games with a high ratio, even though they have been released some time ago. The delay is a convenient explanation, but there must be other explanations.

"We’ve been aware for some time that they take a while post-launch to ‘settle’. [...] This is a good reminder that when you look at earlier review to sales numbers for games - first 5 days or so - they may be skewed high.
Not sure "a while" means the "first 5 days or so" here. If it takes more time than a week to settle, then maybe there is another explanation than the delay.

"Over 2,200 reviews as of Monday, even though the game has probably ‘only’ sold another 25,000 to 50,000 copies."
This stat is made-up. For CMS21, these 0.9k additional reviews could possibly translate into a number between 50k and 90k. It would not be unheard of if the game kept on selling very well. Valheim's sales have been great for a long time: 5M by March 3, 6M by March 19, 6.8M by March 31.

"More popular games are often on the higher end of the possible spectrum."
I actually believe the opposite, that popular games (let us say over 50k reviews) tend to have a lower ratio, closer to x30. The more players, the less variability, and the closer the ratio is to its limit. Anyway, with 2.5k reviews, CMS21 is not yet in the category of popular games to me.

Plus, I don't find this piece of information in the linked article.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed the FPS Syndicate too, would love to have it on Steam. Along with SimCity and Warfighter.

In another topic: Azur Lane Crosswave, Death end re;Quest 2 and Super Neptunia RPG all got a small price cut (from $49.99 to $39.99 for the first two, and $39.99 to $29.99 for SNR). Since Idea Factory follows Valve's recommended pricing for all regions, everyone got lower prices.

Sega:
Sales in each area of the Entertainment Contents business exceeded expectations and this was the main reason for the favorable performance.
In Q1 of the current fiscal year, repeat sales were higher than expected, and although not as high as last year, repeat sales were significantly higher than in FY2020/3, maintaining a high level. Due to the large number of new titles for North America and Europe, and strong repeat sales, both the overseas sales ratio and the download ratio were at a high level.

That was a pretty neat game I thought.

Didnt really keep the old Syndicate vibe, but I enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it, I personally played for 30min and hated every second of it and I put part of the blame on the name. It was a pretty unremarkable game and clearly made by committee but I wouldn't dislike it as much had it any other name.
It was a similar situation to the TPS XCOM spinoff that got released around the same time. Pretty bland and non-inspired but the XCOM brand made me hate it.
Same thing happened with the C&C FPS spinoff.

Im a big fan of Crysis, played through it many times, it was also one of my first personally bought games ever, so it has a special place in my heart. Yet I never bought the Remastered, will on Steam whenever it releases there.

Also, thanks to CryTek for ruining the gameplay and story with Crysis 2 and 3. To this day I have still not come over the fact that they told the end of Nomads story in a goddamn comic book. What the fuck.

Does not look particularly impressive.
At least it's not based on the weak console versions. Still probably not worth the time as of yet.

This might prevent me from ever buying anything Crysis-related again to be honest unless Psycho comes back (unless he's in 3, which I;ve not played)

Could someone explain to me what this means and why its bad? I don't really know what it means to "crawl Steamdb" and why that's bad.
Some people want to download all of the data available at SteamDB, which incurs a lot more traffic (and cost) than the usual traffic. xPaw would normally block the IP of these people, but they are using residential proxies so that he cannot easily block them, and even if he did, there would be collateral damage (which means normal visitors contacting him because they cannot access the website). In the end, data will likely be made less accessible for everyone.

That really sucks :/
Sounds pricey for something that is such a useful service available to everyone. Hope these guys don't ruin it for everyone.

It cannot be easily blocked.
But what are those people doing and why would he want to block them ?
Because, granted I’m obviously missing context and he surely is right, but it’s asked so nicely in the tweet that it gives me a furious desire to do it.

More explanation was posted, I need to read it asap.

Ok.. I'm ready to install some Gamepass games this month. And more importantly, try to uninstall them later. But between Humankind and Psychonauts 2 it is probably worth the risk.

Yup.. this a totally normal behavior when trying to use a service from one of the biggest software companies in the world

Didn't realize Myst had already released on Oculus, I thought it was just still being developed. Definitely interested in the remake, though. I was too young to understand the games the first time around and I loved the hell out of Obduction.
